Apple Watch app asks me to Log In

After the recent update, my app on my apple watch will not start or change back to the shoe to run. I get an error message that says Check Strava on iPhone for prompts and there is none and be sure Bluetooth is enabled in settings which it is. This is very frustrating I used to love this app till now.

  • I had this issue when my watch updated to WatchOS 4.1, the version of WatchOS that introduced Apple Music streaming direct to the watch over cellular data.

    WHAT DIDN'T WORK

    • Strava > Settings > Applications, Services, and Devices > Connect a New Device to Strava > Apple Watch, etc.
    • Closing all iPhone apps.
    • Restarting iPhone.
    • Closing Sträva app on WatchOS (left swipe, "Remove").
    • Restarting watch.
    • Privacy > Motion & Fitness > Strava off, then on.
    • Reinstalling the Strava watch app.
    • Reinstalling the Strava iPhone app.
    • Logging into Facebook via Safari on iPhone, logging in Strava website in Safari on iPhone via Facebook login, installing Strava on iPhone (in case it was an authentication issue).

    WHAT WORKED

    1. Watch app in iPhone > tap Apple Watch picture at top, e.g "Lucy's Apple Watch" > tap "I" symbol (information) > Un-pair Apple Watch.
    2. Wait (unpairing takes quite awhile).
    3. Setup watch from new.
    4. Wait (setting up the watche takes quite awhile too).
    5. Strava happy again on the watch. Whew!

  • So instead of going to settings/ privacy /motion and fitness and turning that on and off, I went right into settings into the Strava app and toggled the motion and fitness thereand that worked without having to restart anything.

  • What worked for me was:

Uninstalling the app from my watch and my phone

    Reinstalling the app on both

logging out of the Strava app on my phone and then logging back in. When I logged back in it asked me to set up Strava for my watch.

  • I tried it all but did not work.  Once I rebooted my phone (not the watch the phone) it worked.  This hit me when I got a new apple watch for xmas and I was trying to setup my strava account on it.

  • For about 6 months I have this problem with my Strava watch app and I’ve never seen this.
Anyway, none of the tips worked for me.
    This is sh*t!

  • I am now having the same problem. I have tried all of the steps listed in this thread but still no joy. Strava for my apple watch is now nothing but a waste of space. Any ideas?

  • Diane Blake’s suggestion worked for me. Settings>strava, toggle motion and fitness. Joy!

  • Aww come on strava this is a joke. Nothing, I mean nothing will make it work on the watch.

  • Wouldn't work with new iPhone X. Kept telling me to connect/login to Strava app on phone. Went to settings/strava app/motion and fitness. Toggled motion/fitness off and opened app on watch then toggled motion/fitness on. Just toggling motion/fitness off then on without opening app on watch did not work.

  • I think that's the worst bug in the watch app so far. And the Strava adm does NOTHING!

As I said before, nothing really works! You can reinstall both iPhone and watch, for a couple of days it will be ok, but then it start asking to log in again.

    Strava must fix it, now!

  • Thanks for all the comments here. Before I read this, I tried almost all of the recommended solutions. Installing and uninstalling, logging in and out, etc.

The privacy tip did the trick for me and finally promoted iOS Strava to run through the setup process.

This happens every couple months when the iOS updates and then Strava fails every time you go to use it.

  • Like many all we needed to do was toggle the Strava button in the ‘motion and fitness’ section of the iPhone . We toggled it off came out of it and then went back in and switched it on. Opened the app up on the watch and lo and behold it started syncing again.

  • Strava, get your head out of your ass and stop resting on the laurels of having a significant user base. Remember that your user base has a heavy concentration of type-A personalities with high standards that should be quick to move to another app that can do it better. If the groups I train with didn't use Strava I would have never spend the last hour of my life screwing about with getting my watch to pair with the phone app. The experience made the appearance of your premium upgrade path even more laughable.

  • Same Problem here today. Since i did‘t took my iPhone with me there was no way to use Strava on my Apple Watch Series 2 🤨. At home re-register the watch in the App did it work again. That happened already a few times to me.

  • Using Apple Watch 3, latest watch OS. All I get on the watch is the Welcome screen that tells me to login to my app on the phone. I've tried the privacy settings, uninstalling the app on the iPhone and going through the settings again. Can't get past the welcome screen

  • What other Apps are people using with their apple watch to track runs? I am probably going to cancel my Strava premium sub because the strava watch app and the phone will not pair. I'm in the middle of marathon training and need something more reliable.

  • This took much longer than it should have.  Got a new phone, everything transferred fine, just had to look up a few passwords.  Tried all the different suggestions here.  Finally, unpairing and setting up my watch as a new watch got it to work.  Seems like this should be much easier and less cumbersome.

  • This is really pretty poor guys. Having to factory reset my watch (running watchOS 4.3.1) because you guys have buggy software looks bad. Get a fix soon.

  • Same Problem for me. As this is known for more than 2 years and Strava hasn`t done anything, i`m switching to Nike Run Club.

  • I've just had this happen to me after an iWatch OS update. The toggling of Strava on and off within Motion Fitness worked for me:

Also try going to Privacy settings on the iPhone, then to Motion & Fitness and turn Strava off then on again. (Thanks for the tip Gregory)

  • I had this same issue. Solved it:

Strava app > More > Settings > Applications, Services, and Devices > Connect a new device to Strava

  • Got a "replacement" phone SE after the Apple battery replacement programme broke my phone. Then encountered the same Apple watch log-in issue.

    Solution that worked for me.

    Open Strava phone App

Select "More" (bottom right) > Settings > Applications, Services and Devices > Manage Devices Screen

    Heath - allow all

    Then > Apple Watch connect

(had uninstalled strava from watch and iphone before this which didn't work)

Strava then showed up all sorted in Motion & Fitness

  • Factory reset of watch and restore from backup solved the problem for me.

  • Have tried everything suggested to get this working short of a factory reset of the watch which seems ridiculous, especially given this issue was first reported over two years ago...

  • I just got a new iPhone Xs and connected it to my Apple Watch 2. None of the above suggestions work for me. I am a Premium member yet it seems like Strava is not a very responsive company.

  • I unpaired the Apple Watch S4 and paired again as new. Using iPhone Xs Max. It resolved the issue.
