Galaxy Watch app synchronization

I tried using the Strava app for Galaxy Watch (Tizen) a couple of times now. Twice with a bicycle ride, once with a run.

The first ride was about 12 km and tracked just fine. It synched with my Strava profile perfectly. The second ride that I tracked did not sync. And today I did a 8 km run and that too did not sync. So the three activities all show in the history page of the app, I can manually try to sync them and it says it was succesful, but still they do not show up in my Strava profile.

During the run I noticed I did get 1 km updates of the stats but the pace was only right the first km, the other updates showed rubbish numbers for pace (slower and slower while I was actually accelerating)

So currently I am disappointed, dumping the app and reverting to Samsung Health.

  • Thanks for the advice @Kaigogi.

Good to know you solved the problem and how. It would be very bad to lose the activity that has not been synced yet. I'll wait to see if we can get an answer and use Samsung Health on the meantime, unfortunately.

    Regards,

    Bruno

  • Hi,

I also experienced the sync issue. It started working again after the recent update to 1.0.2, however it has started reoccurring. I haven't been able to sync my ride yesterday morning. No error, watch says sync successful, but no sync (and the "tap to sync" link is still there on the activity in the history on the watch).

  • I might add that it also drastically drains the battery after the failed sync attempt. Watch always suggests killing it.

  • Strava App updated to version 1.0.2 and ever since it does not sync anymore. Manual sync just crashes the app. I have logged a support call with Strava. Hopefully they release an update soon. In the meantime I'm back to using the Samsung Health app.

  • I am having a slightly different problem with my Gear S3... i completed a 7M run.. the watch shows 7.07km (using the strava app).. but when i sync to my strava account.. it only shows 5.8km on my phone!

2 days ago i had simliar issues with a 30km bike ride... watch strava app shows 30km... but only 15.8km got synced..

the problem only started in Jan... i never had issues last year with strava app on my watch

  • When you start to run with an app you are promted to wait for an GPS fix sometimes. The Strava app does not. When you press Outdoor Run for example, the timer starts immediately. The last run it took 2 km to get the GPS signal, running out in the open on a clear day. How can I check that I have a correct GPS signal before I start running?

  • I had the galaxy watch for Christmas in order to run with strava and listen to Spotify.
No run has been correct, the gps misses off the first few km of the run even though I'm out in the open at different places.
Today it randomly drew a line when I was in the car but hadn't started strava yet, last week it said I ran 44 miles in an hour and gave me 77km of splits data???
I rang Samsung today who were useless and said it's a software issue take it back. But I want it fixed, I've stood for 5 - 10 mins waiting for the gps teardrop to light up to ensure its found before I start running but it didn't work.
Please contact me with a fix or it sounds like the only solution is to uninstall strava and use Samsung health.
    Thanks

  • Hi Jess, i have the same problem with the v1.0.1  and v1.0.2 somettimes my activities sync very well but sometime this activities stay in my history and don't sync and when I use the manual sync the strava app on my galaxy watch is close it.

I experience the same problem reported by Kaigogi M and Bruno C.:

    1. I open Strava app in my watch

    2. Click "History"

    3. Click "Tap to sync"

    4. Receive message "Syncing, please wait..."

    5. Strava app closes

    6. Activity is not synced

  • Had same issue, was working fine on 2 runs, then nothing. Had some GPS issues so reset the watch, updated all apps and still same issue with syncing but GPS came back.

  • Am also having the same issue with Pablo on my Samsung Gear. My Outdoor Run activity yesterday didn't sync even after 24 hrs. Tried with a new Outdoor Walk activity today, it synced immediately, but my previous activity is still unsynced. Any manual attempt to sync from Samsung Gear will only close the app on the watch . Am bummed because the run yesterday was a PB for me :(

  • I have a Galaxy Smartwatch & having the exactly same issues as Pablo above reports. Some activities sync with no issue - though these tend to be shorter activities (rides in my case), but over the past two days a 100 km & a 50 km ride appear to have recorded fine but will not sync (edit: 50km ride synced later in the day!).

I previously reported another 100 km ride not syncing - so could the issue relate to longer activities (edit: see previous paragraph)?

I've taken to recording activities on both phone and watch Strava apps - which is kinda defeating the purpose of having the smartwatch app - very frustrating and hopefully gets rectified soon - really don't want to uninstall and reinstall app (& lose recorded activities) with no guarantee issue will be fixed.

  • Stephen, I was starting o think the same thing as I tested the app with a 6 km walk on the weekend and it sync'd fine. The one that will not sync is a 65 km ride, other rides up to 35 km have sync'd successfully as well but they were before I updated to 1.0.2.

  • I have the same issue, short rides sync but longer ones say sync complete but then the Strava app closes and the activity has not uploaded. Initially nothing worked but once I updated the app the shorter activities now seem to work after a few tries but the longer ones never do.

I agree with most of the comments that this defeats the point of having a smart watch if I have to go back to using my phone. This is very frustrating as the main reason I chose the Samsung Galaxy watch was that it would work with Strava and as I use an iPhone I don't think the health app will sync the required data.

    Cheers

  • Hi guys, the 22 of January i opened an official ticket to strava support team, yesterday i received and answer:

Thank you for contacting Strava. Sorry for the sync troubles - I've brought this to the app developers attention who is beginning to investigate.

I will put your request on hold until I hear back. Thank you for your patience. If you have any questions in the meantime, please do not hesitate to ask.

My suggest is to open a ticket to sensitize about this issue, because the phrase "who is beginning to investigate."  make me understand that the tread in the community is not taken into great consideration by the developers becouse we are writing from 20 December.

  • SOLVED:

    Guys.

I solved my issue with synchronisation to the Samsung watch. For some reason it will not work over the bluethooth.

Switching on WIFI and having both watch and device on the same WIFI solved my problem!!

    Glen.

  • Same issue today for the first time ever (and I use it all the time), a 50k effort lost... I am selling my watch and buying a Garming, bye bye samsung and it's unreliable products & software (S health is no better, I switched to the strava app before it was faulty..., now I lost all hope to get this smart watch to be smart)

  • Hello all,

I'm using Version 1.1.0 and did a 100km plus ride on Sunday (03/02/19). The ride recorded fine and I can see the data, however the sync does not work. As others have mentioned the app starts to sync and then just closes without any crash report, etc. I had been syncing fine prior to Version 1.1.0 although I hadn't tested it on long distances.

It would be nice to get this sorted shortly, as I love using Strava and had been waiting for it for such a long time to come out on Gear S3 ... now wondering if I should just go back to Sporty Watch.

  • I am getting rid of my galaxy watch. Garmin vivoactive3 will be the replacement, Garmin to strava sync has never let me down before and battery last a lot longer.

  • Got my new Garmin vivoactive3 today and done my first run with it this evening, it worked so perfect and sync between Garmin connect and strava was done straight away. No waiting around, no missing distance and most importantly NO Stress. Good bye Samsung galaxy watch.

  • the support agent give me a deficient answer, they tell me there is not a fix. They suggest "you need track your activity with the activity for other person"...
