Galaxy Watch app synchronization

I tried using the Strava app for Galaxy Watch (Tizen) a couple of times now. Twice with a bicycle ride, once with a run.

The first ride was about 12 km and tracked just fine. It synched with my Strava profile perfectly. The second ride that I tracked did not sync. And today I did a 8 km run and that too did not sync. So the three activities all show in the history page of the app, I can manually try to sync them and it says it was succesful, but still they do not show up in my Strava profile.

During the run I noticed I did get 1 km updates of the stats but the pace was only right the first km, the other updates showed rubbish numbers for pace (slower and slower while I was actually accelerating)

So currently I am disappointed, dumping the app and reverting to Samsung Health.

  • So it appears that them referring this issue to the developers marks the support call as closed. I have just updated to latest release 1.1.0 and the issue still exists, but I now get the ability to record other activities types that I won't be able to sync as well.

  • Unfortunately Strava have us as users and know we will probably just go to a different hardware provider that they have no issues with. I think it is poor form from Strava and Samsung to release an app and product that is not fit for purpose. At least with the current update my short activities sync but anything over 45km and the program crashes and does not sync. Hopefully they up their game soon.

  • Hello again,

Further to my previous comment, I have completed a few smaller rides/runs (~10kms). They have all synced with no problems at all. So it appears that at a certain point (time duration, distance covered, etc.) that the watch app cannot sync properly. What this distance/time is I have no idea, but it might be wise to use a different app/device if you are planning on a long activity.

We can only prey that the developers manage to sort of the issue.

    Cheers.

  • So updated to the latest release, still wont sync the 100km rides in my history. Have been using my phone to record my rides since. I purchased this watch for this Strava feature but is too unreliable. Very disappointed.

  • Just received following message from Strava support:

"Sorry to hear you're still having trouble. Unfortunately, it turns out Samsung is still experiencing some issues with syncing. We are working with the app developer to resolve them. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Unfortunately, I do not have a resolution timeline or workaround at the moment.

Thank you for your patience. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask."

So it appears we'll just have to look for/continue with alternatives until matter is resolved :(

As an aside, I'm only having issue with my 80+k rides - went for a 55k ride yesterday & no issues with syncing- go figure

  • I am having this same issue.  I put a lot of research into various devices before opting for the Samsung Galaxy and am incredibly disappointed.   I have gone on 3 runs now and tapped to sync resulting in 'sync fail' every time.  I have updated to latest version of the app, turned off Bluetooth you name it I've tried it.  so disappointed

  • I see there is a new update 2.0. Has anyone tried it? Not sure if they have solved the sync issues.

  • Well after updating the Strava app with the 20 Feb update and turning off Bluetooth, so it does not go through my phone, my longer activities have finally sync'd. It is funny that it did this while on the Samsung help chatline.

I am using a iPhone so I am not sure if that is why it didn't work through the phone. Given that nothing worked last week at least I have made some progress.

  • I have managed to synchronize using the WIFI connection. I mean, I unlink the watch from the mobile via Bluetooth, open the Samsung Strava and give it to "synchronize activity" button. I have to say that it does not pass the data automatically to the app, it takes a few minutes for the activity to appear on Strava.

I am using a Samsung mobile and it works.

  • I am facing the same issue as Victor Penella.

I have Strava version 1.1.2. Recorded my first run, was only 30 min. When I try to manually sync the Strava Watch app crashes. Nothing happens.

  • So i buy a $400 samsung watch when strava becomes available, and it now might as well be costume jewelry on my wrist.

Started out ok, but would drop some runs.  Now wont register any distance at all.  Clock runs - no distance recorded.  Acts buggy and freezes or lags when i go to delete that activity.

cant comment on the synching - because it wont record anything to synch!

phone app works fine - but i didnt pay all that money so i could continue carrying my phone around!

I have deleted and reinstalled the app, run all updates, checked location service on phone - nothing is working and i am beyond irritated.

  • Same thing here. Doesn't sync anything to strava, not even from Samsung Health to strava. Samsung watch with tizen is worthless piece of junk without all the functionality. Switching back to my Garmin.

  • I read a lot of you people still have lots of trouble using the Strava watch app. That is just a shame. As the OP I can tell you that after reverting to Samsung Health, I eventually switched to the "Sporty Watchface". This is a watchface with an integrated sports tracker that does a pretty good job. It features support of external bluetooth connected sensors and syncs with Strava and Google Drive perfectly. Well sure it does not have the intuitive UI and fancy features that Samsung Health has, but the reliable tracking and being able to use a bluetooth heartrate monitor does it for me!

  • I use Strava 1.1.2 on Samsung Galaxy Watch. Generally it works and synchronizes well. However, recently I recorded a 16km hike (watch was in offline mode). Later when I've got connection I tapped 'Sync now', app was syncing for 2mins and completed successfully. But nothing appeared in Strava profile. 'Tap to sync' button is no longer active for this activity in watch app. So I am not able to retry sync and it was not uploaded either.

    Appreciate any thoughts / workarounds.

  • I've been having the same problem and found a fix for me. On your phone go into the Gear/Wear app and click on 'Apps'. When I did this the Strava app was highlighted as having an update pending (as did a few other apps). I updated Strava in seconds and my un-synced cycle ride carried over onto my Strava account on my phone. Worked for me.

  • S3 gear Samsung health to strava data transferring is not working! Is there any solution?

  • I think that you all have strava and Samsung Health linked, that's the problem or maybe another health app, mine works perfectly and synchronizes almost instantly when I finalized a run, try to unlink google fit and Samsung health then turn off and turn on the Bluetooth of your phone, it works for me.

  • I'm running a G3 with a Note 4 - I've made sure that all permissions are turned on within the watch - I've made sure that the Samsung Health is talking to Strava and sharing data - I've removed any other apps from watch & phone so that there's no confusion on who's talking to who - I cannot get the gps/map data from my watch to my strava account.  It tracked my distance, heart rate, steps, etc. but there is no map/route that was taken.  The GPS & map data works perfectly with MapMyRun from Under Armor as well as the map applications for navigation.  --- What do I need to do in order for Strava to get the GPS/map data?.....THIS IS WAY HARDER THAN IT SHOULD BE !!!--

  • Is there any working solution to sync a previously synced activity on Samsung Galaxy Watch? It shows completed but nothing is in my account! It was a two hour workout part of my training and i lost the complete ride. :-\

I use strava for years but this is really bad that i cant do anything to resync and analyze my activity... I have Summit too, but if this is not working its useless.

  • Thought I'd come back to post, I have not had the inability to sync issue, nor the battery killing issue, for probably a few months now. Both seem to have been fixed in some recent updates.

  • Hi

Long-term Strava user - bought a new Samsung Galaxy Watch, installed v1.1.2 of the Strava application to the watch - records fine and (it seems) accurately both distances, elevation and heart rates.
At the end of my ride all attempts to sync 'Tap to sync' are met with the message 'Syncing please wait....' and NOTHING.

I have tried everything including including updating to the latest Health that the Wearable application told me had an update and still nothing.

Can we have an update from the Strava developers. The support of Strava on this watch was the ONLY reason I bought this watch.

  • Hi guys - sounds like the Strava app is still buggy with the Galaxy Watch?  Sync-issues?  Battery life?  Does it support "auto-pause"?

I was leaning towards the Galaxy Watch, but sounds like I probably should just go with a Garmin as most seem to be happy with it and the Strava sync.
