Galaxy Watch app synchronization

I tried using the Strava app for Galaxy Watch (Tizen) a couple of times now. Twice with a bicycle ride, once with a run.

The first ride was about 12 km and tracked just fine. It synched with my Strava profile perfectly. The second ride that I tracked did not sync. And today I did a 8 km run and that too did not sync. So the three activities all show in the history page of the app, I can manually try to sync them and it says it was succesful, but still they do not show up in my Strava profile.

During the run I noticed I did get 1 km updates of the stats but the pace was only right the first km, the other updates showed rubbish numbers for pace (slower and slower while I was actually accelerating)

So currently I am disappointed, dumping the app and reverting to Samsung Health.

    We're investigating an issue that's preventing activities from syncing to Strava from Samsung Gear and Galaxy watches. At this time, we do not know the cause. If you're experiencing this issue, please try updating your app to the latest version. If that doesn't help, try re-syncing any missing activities:

    • View the History folder on your watch.
    • Select Tap to Sync on the missing activities.
    • To confirm the activity has synced to Strava, you should see a "Sync Successful" message at top of the screen and Tap to Sync will no longer appear.

    I experience the same problem reported by Kaigogi M:

    1. I open Strava app in my watch

    2. Click "History"

    3. Click "Tap to sync"

    4. Receive message "Syncing, please wait..."

    5. Strava app closes

    6. Activity is not synced

     

    I'm using Strava app version 1.0.2 in my Samsung Gear Sport. The same issue has not happened to activities recorded before and also after the one I'm trying to sync.

  • Hi Jess, i have the same problem with the v1.0.1  and v1.0.2 somettimes my activities sync very well but sometime this activities stay in my history and don't sync and when I use the manual sync the strava app on my galaxy watch is close it.

    I experience the same problem reported by Kaigogi M and Bruno C.:

  • Same problem here... Got my GW on wednesday, happy because Strava was finnaly on and get disapointed with the malfunction of the synchronization. Hope it gets ok soon. Any News?

  • Had a shiny new Samsung Galaxy watch for Christmas. Linked my account using the four digit code etc. Been for my first run today, tracked ok on the watch/strava app and seems accurate, but having the same trouble as above - it's not syncing to my profile grrrrrrrr.

    Spent ages considering which gps watch to buy and the fact Strava have this app was the main reason went for the Galaxy watch. If it doesn't sink to your profile it's a useless app!

    Have messaged strava support for help. If it's not sorted the watch is going back and I'll revert to Runkeeper again!

    I also experienced the sync issue. It started working again after the recent update to 1.0.2, however it has started reoccurring. I haven't been able to sync my ride yesterday morning. No error, watch says sync successful, but no sync (and the "tap to sync" link is still there on the activity in the history on the watch).

  • Sync problem again.... App Version 1.0.2 when I try to tap sync Strava answer sync completed and the app close itself but my ride rec remain with tap to sync...and in my Strava mobile app the ride is missing.... Ehi what's happening? Why the is discontinue working? Please try a solution

  • Stephen, I was starting o think the same thing as I tested the app with a 6 km walk on the weekend and it sync'd fine. The one that will not sync is a 65 km ride, other rides up to 35 km have sync'd successfully as well but they were before I updated to 1.0.2.

    I'm using Version 1.1.0 and did a 100km plus ride on Sunday (03/02/19). The ride recorded fine and I can see the data, however the sync does not work. As others have mentioned the app starts to sync and then just closes without any crash report, etc. I had been syncing fine prior to Version 1.1.0 although I hadn't tested it on long distances.

    It would be nice to get this sorted shortly, as I love using Strava and had been waiting for it for such a long time to come out on Gear S3 ... now wondering if I should just go back to Sporty Watch.

    Long-term Strava user - bought a new Samsung Galaxy Watch, installed v1.1.2 of the Strava application to the watch - records fine and (it seems) accurately both distances, elevation and heart rates.
    At the end of my ride all attempts to sync 'Tap to sync' are met with the message 'Syncing please wait....' and NOTHING.

    I have tried everything including including updating to the latest Health that the Wearable application told me had an update and still nothing.

     

    Can we have an update from the Strava developers. The support of Strava on this watch was the ONLY reason I bought this watch.

  • Here same problem with my Samsung galaxy watch

    Strava has two big problems on the samsung galaxy watch

    1. not syncs activities with the profile

    2. very hight battery consumption (also in stanby, only opened app and not in use)

    I'm agree with you Eric; dumping the app and reverting to Samsung Health.

    I hope Strava developers are working on these issues, could be apprecete an answer as "take in charge, work in progress"

  • I have the same issue with my Galaxy watch. In the beginning the GPS would cut out about 15 minutes into the activity. Time would continue to calculate but when I would finish the workout it would show a straight line from where the tracking stopped to my final location. I reinstalled the app on both phone and watch and now activities will not upload to my Strava account. Like Eric I try and manually sync on the watch, says its successful, but nothing shows up on my Strava feed.

  • Yup exact same here, three issues:

    1) Pacing was way off during run

    2) First run sync was fine followed by another two that no matter what I try are locked into the watch and won't sync.

    3) Ridiculous battery drain compared.

    Been using S Health since and no problems at all. Only reason I keep opening Strava app is to try and get it to sync!

    We've worked with the app developer to identify the activity syncing error is with the Samsung app, not with Strava. A patch is being worked on to resolve the issue. Appreciate your patience!

    Good to know you solved the problem and how. It would be very bad to lose the activity that has not been synced yet. I'll wait to see if we can get an answer and use Samsung Health on the meantime, unfortunately.

    I have the Samsung Gear Sport with the Strava app.

    But no way to get the 2 synchronized - I have already version 1.02.

    You could I fix it? reinstall everything ? disconnect and reconnect?

  • I have a Galaxy Smartwatch & having the exactly same issues as Pablo above reports.Some activities sync with no issue - though these tend to be shorter activities (rides in my case), but over the past two days a 100 km & a 50 km ride appear to have recorded fine but will not sync (edit: 50km ride synced later in the day!).

    I previously reported another 100 km ride not syncing - so could the issue relate to longer activities (edit: see previous paragraph)?

    I've taken to recording activities on both phone and watch Strava apps - which is kinda defeating the purpose of having the smartwatch app - very frustrating and hopefully gets rectified soon - really don't want to uninstall and reinstall app (& lose recorded activities) with no guarantee issue will be fixed.

    Further to my previous comment, I have completed a few smaller rides/runs (~10kms). They have all synced with no problems at all. So it appears that at a certain point (time duration, distance covered, etc.) that the watch app cannot sync properly. What this distance/time is I have no idea, but it might be wise to use a different app/device if you are planning on a long activity.

    We can only prey that the developers manage to sort of the issue.

  • I found a way to solve this issue : I sold my Gear S3 and replaced it with a vivoactive 3 music... IT WORKS PERFECTLY :D

  • Well after updating the Strava app with the 20 Feb update and turning off Bluetooth, so it does not go through my phone, my longer activities have finally sync'd. It is funny that it did this while on the Samsung help chatline.

    I am using a iPhone so I am not sure if that is why it didn't work through the phone. Given that nothing worked last week at least I have made some progress.

  • I read a lot of you people still have lots of trouble using the Strava watch app. That is just a shame. As the OP I can tell you that after reverting to Samsung Health, I eventually switched to the "Sporty Watchface". This is a watchface with an integrated sports tracker that does a pretty good job. It features support of external bluetooth connected sensors and syncs with Strava and Google Drive perfectly. Well sure it does not have the intuitive UI and fancy features that Samsung Health has, but the reliable tracking and being able to use a bluetooth heartrate monitor does it for me!

  • I use Strava 1.1.2 on Samsung Galaxy Watch. Generally it works and synchronizes well. However, recently I recorded a 16km hike (watch was in offline mode). Later when I've got connection I tapped 'Sync now', app was syncing for 2mins and completed successfully. But nothing appeared in Strava profile. 'Tap to sync' button is no longer active for this activity in watch app. So I am not able to retry sync and it was not uploaded either.

    Appreciate any thoughts / workarounds.

    Strava version 1.1.2 on Galaxy Smartwatch is very unstable. It closes without a reason, a problem with the start and, what is worse, there is no certainty that the training after the end is saved or we will go to the option of its completion. These vulnerabilities exclude the application from use. Strava do you test applications? I will ask otherwise in which directory temporary training files are stored temporarily. I lost too much of them. Or maybe the Galaxy Watch problem and the new update?
