Put the feed in chronological order!

This is maddening!

In a nutshell the activities are in some random order that Strava things I want to view them in... I don't!

I want to view them in chronological order, both my activities and those of others.

Bonkers!

  • Survey monkey survey filled out ( https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/NewStravaFeed), but just in case it sends responses to Strave in a random order, much like you've decided to display feeds to your users, I've included the response here. About time you do something about this wouldn't you say Strava?????

You claim that "When you refresh your feed, any content you haven't seen before will be added to the top of the feed, presented in an order based on the items that should be most interesting to you." however this appears to be exactly what it doesn't do. If it did work this way then I would see rides from friends I often ride with at the top of the feed when I login. What I'm currently seeing is a lot of rides for people I follow, but never ride with at the top, and rides from friends I ride with buried way down in the list. In most cases these are rides they have done today or yesterday and I'm not seeing them unless I scroll down page upon page to finally unearth them. This is just pointless and means I miss a lot of rides by friends at the expense of seeing that a pro or someone I never ride with has done a ride in Spain...(I'm in Australia). Hopeless. I'd get more value out of a purely random feed. At least that way my friend's rides would sometimes appear at the top. This is ridiculous. A two-year old would know that being able to sort rides chonologically should be a standard feature, but for some reason Strava seem to think that it's an unusual request.

  • Algorithm? Is any algorithm really the Holy Grail of the 21st Century, Strava? I was so much amazed by this terrific app, but as most, correction : ALL comments above stress out; algorithmic order ruins Strava entirely. This makes Strava only good for logging, not a social sports platform. O yeah, changes always come with lots of complaints and rumour, but get accepted anyway in the end, right? Well, not for this one, you nuts! I will also stop paying for Summit. I really wonder what's behind Strava's stubborness in ignoring so many user's complaints and makes this economically worth it..

  • This new feed is ridiculous! Change it back strava!
The only reason I use strava is to see friends activities and now I can’t!

  • Thought I did something 'wrong'. Please, please, show the activities in a chronological order! I now cycled a week long trip backward.

  • Hi,

it is really frustrating that Strava is not moving on this. One more month and I will go for one of the many alternatives. Just to list a few here for other frustrated users. Please bear in mind that I am not sure how they are treating their feeds. I only use Komoot and Trailforks regularly, those are fine:

    - Runtastic (multi sports)
    - Komoot (multi sports, mostly German)
    - Trailforks (MTB)
    - Runalyze
    - Nike Training Club

  • Please go back to chronological or at least give the users the option to sort the feed in this way. Its rubbish that you can't see any new activities posted by your friends due to the random order of activities.

  • Add me to the list of very disappointed Strava users. It’s Apple and Microsoft thinking that says a company knows what the customer wants, or needs. We Strava users NEED to be able to sort our feed in chronological order, not some random order created by pencil pushers. On a side note, my husband’s Strava (a paying premium user) sorts like it should. My account is the free one, as I only need to follow him and a few friends, but it's like looking in a haystack for the current activity of someone I'm following.

  • I am also a disapointed customer.
New feed order is eratic and full of bug.
Strava support said to me it was supposed to put first the most relevant activities.
Result : i see sometimes some 3seconds activity before and don't see 25km run from one of my friend
Sometimes i see my 5k easy run from 2 days ago, and not seeing my fast 15k full of PR...

It could be not that bad if it was really working but it os definitly not.
So please strava, put back the chronological feed while you are fixing everything...

  • Anyone from strava out there?

What is the point of this "support"

    1
    コメントアクション Permalink
  • No point.  It's basically a support group for those of us remaining who remember when Strava's feed was a thing of beauty.   #neverforget

  • Algorithm I can get from... umm yeah, Facebook.?

Strava were great, but these old forced feed´s… Don´t need them, and don´t want them.!

At least give us the option to choose from own preferences. (chronological / algorithm)

  • Could the algorithm be modified so that the activities I haven't seen have the highest priority, rather than activities already viewed?

Surely that's doable and allows you to keep a clever algorithm...

  • Any update guys? The order is ridiculous. Surely after seeing that many complaints someone is doing something about it?

  • What is the justification for not having the activities of people I follow in chronological order? Is it that the crap user experience you have purposefully made makes more money somehow? Please explain?

  • @Daniel.  Just speculation, but it may be to make more money.  Income is based off ad revenue on the ads placed in the feed.  If you make people have to scroll around a bit to find the rides they want, it's more seconds of interaction, and theoretically more time spent looking at ads and sponsored events.  Which is used to command advertising rates.    I'd gladly pay a small premium, though to get back pure chronological.

  • @Greg. A lot of us ALREADY pay a premium with no choice in limiting feed extras or order. I, for one, am canceling payment at the next renewal - I think Strava has lost its way with its users; the last straw being the removal of connected devices from the phone app. With a good ad blocker and the "elevate" extension the vanilla Strava experience is just about bearable!

  • Everyone do the the https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/NewStravaFeed

Surely enough voices there will assist. Bring back chronological order (at least as a toggle option) please Strava!!!

  • happy to fill it out but bear in mind people have been requesting for strava to add longboarding to strava for several years now via their survey and it still hasn't happened (yet roller skiing is an option). will keep flogging this dead horse!

  • The lack of sorting in the feed is stupid enough that I'll hold out with reapplying for summit. Hope Strava improves now that a new CEO is in charge.

  • This feature feels like it was added becuase 'it's just what social media apps do'. Experiences aren't news or opinion, experiences live in a real time world, this feature makes it harder to feel connected by vitue of immediacy. Its fucked.

  • My feed is in chron order - not sure why anyone else' wouldn't be.  I would like to be able to sort by date or popularity though - mainly for club posts.  My thought was to have an option for a 'sticky' post that remains at the top.  So having more control over the feed by the user would be key.

  • Add me to the list of users who do not like Strava activity ordering algorithm. I second Scott Roberts suggestion for everyone to fill out the survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/NewStravaFeed

As I said in the survey, instead of Strava using setting the sort order is based on what it thinks I want to see, how about letting me order activities based on what I KNOW I want to see?

  • My feed has seemingly improved somewhat over the past month or two.   Not purely chronological, but I don't find myself having to scroll for days to find the group rides I've been on and care about.

  • Since Strava don't seem to care about their customers or the fact that I've cancelled my Summit, sent them numerous emails about how poor the feed is, and given very direct feedback about why I cancelled Summit I've all but given up using it.

I started using Strava because I wanted to support my friends and see what they were doing (when they do it, ffs)...since that has become impossible I only use if as an upload function for my stats. And frankly its not very good at that....but, if you are more interested in stats and performance then have a look at this:

    https://blog.usejournal.com/elevate-for-strava-is-jumping-the-strava-fence-to-become-an-independent-desktop-training-app-1f644c2af824

I already use the Elevate plugin and it's great...once the desktop app is available I'll transfer all my data to this and then won't have to use Strava.at all :)

I get irritated just signing on to Strava.....I'll be happy when I don't have to use it any more.

Their attitude sucks, and lets be honest the feed algorithm isn't useful AND doesn't do what they claim.

  • Strava deleted my last comment.

Anyway, giving you a chronological feed isn't a technical limitation, and it's evidence that they just don't care about what the customer wants.

    What a shame...

  • I connected my garmin to sync to strava, I plan on deleting all my old strava activites as I recorded them using the strava app and so is missing sensor data (wheel speed, heart and cadence). But in the "following" feed everything is out of order, and so I suspect my existing followers wont see my last effort, my biggest ever ride

I think the lack of interest in fixing this has more to do with saving face than that they don't care, they invested so much effort into research and implementation that they don't want to admit a mistake was made. A case of the sunk cost fallacy.

This is offtopic but I've discovered some other issues in my evaluation of linking my garmin. Maybe I need to find an alternative to strava:

    • Syncing does not include the ride description or pictures
    • There is no way to selectively sync activities

  • Yes, my Strava use has diminished to basically the only reason I log in anymore is out of guilt for not giving Kudos to all the people who give them to me.     It hasn't matured as a useful planning or analysis tool (despite having some basic analysis).   I had some fun getting badges for a while, but lost interest after a while.    The social aspects aren't that compelling and haven't matured much (For some reason there's no real ride organizing tool - people still tend to use Facebook Events or Messenger to organize rides).
