Instant Velocity / Current Pace on Apple Watch

Is it possible to setup the apple watch (series2) so that it displays your instantaneous velocity or pace instead of your current pace?

Some background: I'm a new runner and currently training to run a series of hilly trail races this summer.  Pace is pretty important for my training sessions and because I'm fairly new to it I'm looking at my watch lots so I can get a sense of what a given pace feels like.  The problem that I'm finding is because it displays your pace over the last km when I take a glance down, it's not at all accurate as to what I'm running at that moment.  Any way to fix this?

Also... sneak in one more thing here :)  If I upgrade to premium, does that improve or add anything as far as the watch app goes?  I don't really use the phone app for much and rarely use the desktop at all.  I'm wondering if I might be better off with a dedicated running watch.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Happy Trails!

  • There is no setting currently. I lave looked extensively as I used to run with a Nike+ GPS and the instant pace was awesome if you understood its limitations. My favorite thing about the watch. Being able to pace out runs with both my instantavg. pace and the pace of the current mile was awesome. It is crazy that an app like strava hasn't bothered to add extra features like that.

  • @tash That‘s really a pitty that strava does not support current/instant pace... only averages... i‘m using the Runtastic App on the Apple Watch (works autark without phone since iOS11) it shows (with some limitation) the current pace.

  • Apple Watch app should support toggling between current speed and current pace for premium users.  There is a time and a place for both.  Just having split times per mile/km isn't enough.

  • Did anyone find a fix for this. I’m having the same problem so need to know exact current pace especially if i’m Training in different pace zones. I’m premium and frustrated with this

  • I came to the forum solely to suggest this too! It's such a no brainer! I don't need to see my average pace during a run, but I do need to see my current pace!
