Estimated Moving Time for a Strava Route

Hi,

Currently when creating a route it uses your average run time over the last 4 weeks to estimate your running time of the created route. It would be great to specify the expected average pace (min \ km or mile) to determine expected time. The issue with average time over 4 weeks is that it doesnt take into account the  difference between road and trail or quality sessions vs easy runs vs long runs.

Thanks,

Reid.

  • I agree also but with respect to cycling.  If I have done hard club rides in the past few weeks and averaged 34-35kph, this means nothing when I plan a solo hilly ride with an expected ave speed of 28-29kph.  The ability to customise or input an expected speed / pace would make route planning so much more useful.

  • Totally agree! My thought was to show a couple different times based on both the existing 4 week average as well as 4 week GAP (grade adjusted pace) average.  Showing an alternate estimate based on one's average GAP average would possibly give a better moving time estimate for those who train on a variety of terrains.

  • Providing different calculated estimated times is great, but I think having the option to just enter a time manually would be great too. Perhaps it would be a different field altogether, but I would like to be able to put how much time (roughly) I need to allow myself to do a certain route, based on my pragmatic knowledge, not collected performance data. I.E. This is my "2 hour Ride Route" and this is my "1 hour Run Route."

  • it would be nice to put your own pace into the calc

  • Hi,

Need to be able to select discipline to work out the EMT for a planned Strava Route. I switch between MTB & ROAD and the averages are poles apart...if we could select the bike we want to use on that planned ride it could work out an accurate estimate on time.

    Thanks,

    C

  • just did a 10 day cycling holiday with MTB & bob yak trailer with lots of climbing.   The estimated times for my routes are useless when I now want to go out with the road bike.

Setting the avg speed manually would also be good when exported to garmin.  Makes it nice to set some goals to beat the virtual partner on a short training ride :-)

  • Just bumping this up to add another voice requesting this! This feature is functionally useless as it is - my 4-week average doesn't mean anything as it includes rides with family, MTB, busy commutes alongside faster training rides.

Why not allow users to enter their own expected average speed? It can't be that hard a ticket for a developer to implement.

  • Agree completely. I've not been riding long rides lately, and am trying to figure out how long it'll take me to do a 60-mile ride with 4K feet of climbing, and the estimate is 4 hours--not gonna happen!

  • Bumping this topic again. When using my garmin with Zwift, it doesnt get the in-Zwift speed signal so when it is uploaded to Strava the speed is zero, which has completely destroyed my route creation estimated times. 6hr 44min for a 54km route...

  • Bump.  Obvious omission.

  • I did some manual work here for a big bike race preparation, re-planning the route on strava to have GPX data, and then adjusting the trackpoint times to my own speed. If you are interested how to do this, see here:

  • As someone who does both MTB and Road cycling the estimates are always under for my MTB Trips and over for Road Rides. Would be good if you could maybe specify which bike you are doing the ride on, then the estimated time could be calculated on last four weeks activity on that particular bike,

My wife likes to know how long I'm going to be out, and when I'll be back 😬 so I built a little tool to help calculate various scenarios.
