Fitness and freshness score.

I’m not understanding the fitness and freshness score. I can workout pretty hard for 4 days straight and my score stays at 64. On the 5th day I do a light two mile jog followed by 10 minutes of walking and my score drops two points.

  • I did notice it also. It became more confusing. I run pretty much 10k everyday at a 75-85% effort and my fitness score keeps dropping everyday. I'm confused. It basically tells me that I have to go hard effort everyday to just to keep my fitness level. Score only goes up by a little bit if I do a long run or a race or hard effort.

  • agree, especially since they reformulated the Score... pretty much broken at this point.  Even my aerobic long runs (17-21miles) barely do much for my fitness or fatigue levels.   Last week I did a 65 minute run (7.4mile), at a pretty mellow but good aerobic run, 90% zone 2 HR and 10% zone 1 (pace zones were comparable, mainly z2) and my fitness and fatigue both dropped...  smh

Pretty much they shifted biking to be much higher, maybe overstated (you are sitting...).... and over corrected running to be low.   I can do an hour mellow bike trainer ride and get a score of 9-12... and an hour easy run... get the same...  the Bike ride was MUCH easier on me, effort, and wear and tear....

Plus they have a scoring bug if you are have custom heart rate zones versus the default (even if they are nearly the same #'s) !!!

Also - since they shifted to intensity over duration... endurance runs/rides give nothing... but throw a few short moderate intervals into an activity... MUCH bigger... a 3 hour run in z2 - much tougher then a 40min Tempo run!!!!

  • I tend to agree, this new equation does not appear to be effective in the real world.

I ran 10K today and I dropped one point in fitness, at my level of fitness it should not happen, should have at least maintained my score?

I ran 69 min with an ave. HR of 128, this should maintain fitness in any case, not drop fitness.

Can others comments and weigh in?

  • Also confused by F&F since the change to Relative Effort from Suffer Score recently - my fitness value has been steadily going down, which I don't feel accurately represents my ability. My Garmin watch certainly disagrees - according to it's metrics, I'm not far off my lifetime peak fitness!

  • My guess is that F&F uses the same calculations now as it did before. Only the values going in from Relative Effort are much lower than they were before from Suffer Score. Hence everyone looks like they are going down in fitness.

  • the new F&F also causes issues biking.

I have taken to checking my F&F in the morning before I train, so see how many points I lost since the night before and therefore be able to know how many points I get that specific day. (The F&F automatically drops at midnight)  Can someone explain to me why some days I lose 2 and others I lose 3?

  • Carolynn,

My guess would have to do with the use of whole numbers in their display.  However in the behind the scenes calculation - they are using decimal places.   So really you are loosing 2.4pts... or something and it just adds up to a third point some days due to rounding or gradual addtion of the tenths of points.   Also depending on what your F&F level is at, you will loose it more or less, as the amount reduction each day is a percentage I would imagine.

For example if you are at a Fatigue of 70... you might loose 6-7pts a day.... but if you are at a Fatigue of 10... you'd only be loosing .5-1.2 a day.
