Using apple watch and iPhone integration

Is there any way for the strava app to work simultaneously on my iPhone and apple watch2. I find that the GPS on my phone is more accurate than my watch (which defaults to pedometer) so I would like to use this to record but still would like to see my time/pace/splits on my watch when I run. Is this possible to start the app on my phone and then manage it from my watch?

Thanks

Matt

  • I would like to see this too. I frequently run early in the morning and would like to utilize the Beacon feature but that also doesn't work if you aren't using the watch app. It seems silly that the mobile app cannot open the watch app.

  • I asked support and they said they have no plans to change this. This is must to keep me as a premier subscriber!

  • I've been trying to find a solution to this too!

Nike Run Club offer it with their app pairing, you start a workout on the phone and then the watch works as a HUD for all the relevant info, very handy!

  • Come on Strava - when I am on my bike I want the GPS on my phone and metrics on my watch

  • Same here. Slightly different reason: I want heart rate from my Watch and cadence sensor data from the phone.

    Considering Endomondo.

  • Why oh why when using both phone and watch are there two separate activities uploaded for the same time??? It's a massive bug that these don't sync even on upload.

  • I have discovered, that Gotoes Strava tool is quite ok for combining iPhone and Watch data afer the workout.

  • For those very enthusiastic: there is a way to combine phone and watch entries. Just google it :)

  • For $2.99, there's a third-party solution: https://www.cultofmac.com/581792/sync-apple-workouts-strava/

  • For me I would like to see my track on the iPhone while tracking with my watch. I noticed that the GPS track on my watch is more accurate then on strava app on iPhone. On iPhone the GPS seems to stick to the road when I'm turning into a small path, this is really annoying

  • This kind of thing should just work. What is the "official way" I should use the iPhone with the AppleWatch? Run the iPhone app and use my watch for a heart monitor? Run the Apple Watch app and use TrailForks on the iPhone instead? Hey Strava, what is your official word on using both devices? "Just figure it out on your own"?

  • Unfortunately Tony, it does seem to be a "figure it out on your own" scenario!

Over a year later and no official word/comment from Strava

There are lots of great alternatives to Strava that use the watch and/or phone, I've played around with a few apps that connect the data together and then send it to Strava but its too many steps to be worthwhile long term.

Short term answer is don't use Strava!

  • Ryan Matzner, HealthFit app seem very good indeed, I'll try it. But it does not solve the problem discussed here: combine Watch and iPhone data. For example, I'm using iPhone for bike cadence sensor data and Watch heart rate sensor. There are other use cases too.

  • I'm combining the data using https://gotoes.org/strava/ Yes, it's extra, but not too much if you are into it :)

  • Hey Strava, look at all these customers trying to get the most out of your service! Look at what we are willing to do just to keep using your software! Makes me wonder why I should go to the Summit! Won’t be able to get there with the Apple Watch app!

  • I will never pay for premium without this feature. This comes out of the box for Nike Run Club. I can’t make a route, start it on my phone, then put my phone in my pocket and run. How ridiculous is that?? Just push the metrics to the watch, and get this done.

  • Other alternatives, e.g. Map My Run, and Nike Run Club offer this useful feature. I wont use Strava for recording my trainings until they address this shortcoming.

  • Just to make sure it’s not me who’s stupid here: if I want to use the maps from Strava with the heart rate measurement on my Apple Watch, I have two workouts recorded instead of one?!?? Is Strava really assuming this is what paying customers want?!???? God I took a one-month subscription only, am heading back to Adidas’ runtastic that has both for free.

  • I’m really looking for a response, hoping for positive one, from Strava on this issue. If not a built in solution, a SIMPLE work around.
I’m super irritated that I am unable to fully utilize their software because of a stupid oversight in programing.
What’s more irritating is that if I run Strava on the phone and watch at the same time it seems to delete the segments !!! Not happy.
This app is interesting and ultra engaging but without the final touches to seamlessly integrate one of the most widespread devices in circulation seamlessly, it’s a major fail. I would be willing to bet most consumers of this software re would be keen on seeing this fixed.
Unless I hear a response in the next week, I definitely will not be signing up once my free trial is complete.

  • Just started my 60 day trial. I don't see myself sticking with Strava without better watch/phone integration.
