Nordic Skiing Speed km/h or mi/h - NO PACE please

Please put back speed for Nordic Skiing activities like it was last year. Pace is useless for Nordic skiing, it's not a kind of running sport, it's more like cycling or MTB with similar average and max speeds and long distances.

Thanks

  • I completely agree! Please restore average speed for nordic skiing.

  • I agree. To me, cycling and cross-country skiing are analogous so that all the same metrics and analysis tools could apply.

  • No one who is a nordic skier uses min/km.  Km/h, average speed and top speed are much more user friendly.

  • Min/km is ridiculous for skiing!

  • Yes please! I was disappointed to find out this feature had been removed. Please bring back speed to Nordic Skiing!

  • Am I alone here?  I absolutely want the pace avg AND speed.  During an XC race I ONLY care about my pace per/km avg and lap times of km. This is how my Garmin is set up for training and racing XC.  There is no way that speed matters at all by itself. There is no way I am going to use speed in Nordic for any real activity in realtime and with avg speed I am just going to be doing the math to derive t/km.

I also very much would like Nordic to be something akin to a run display where you get pace and splits per distance listed out, in my case time/km for all km skied.  Of course showing avg speed per activity and per split is totally fine as well.

Can’t we just have both?  Seems like only a screen real estate issue, not a math one.

  • I agree with Christian - both please!  Also, I have stated in other posts, again agreeing with Christian, that Nordic Skiing should be treated similarly to running.  Lastly, Nordic Skiing should be a first class activity along with Running, Biking, and Swimming.  For serious endurance athletes who live in winter climates, cross-country skiing is one of the best cross-training activities available.

  • I agree that Nordic skiing needs SPEED, NOT PACE, prominently displayed.

  • It seems as though primarily Nordic skiers and cyclists want speed and runners want pace. Can we get this changed so we can either toggle between them or go back to speed?

  • BOTH, SPEED is crucial.

In most cases (at least in Europe) :

Skiing = a winter bike, winter = mountains, skiing = going up and down in hills. It is a nice endurance sport like football (soccer) or even like ice hockey (without enough people to replace you after every 1 minute).

When i want to analyze my results, i don't need the data like "today it was 4x faster on that ice, yesterday it was slow in the deep wet snow." (yes, 4x means the difference between 10km/h and 40km/h in the same place) i wish to see how many times i was still able to accelerate in the end of the main climb, or compare this speed with a top speed (to see if my performancce was awesome, or if i was like a walking dead and all the performance was done only by the serviceman or snow conditions. (Btw as a proffesional ski instructor i can go skiing every day on some local tracks 20m far from my room, but i don't have any use of the "Pace" feature, except distraction (it would be much better to learn the split times in specific segments (brain + watches without GPS) because if you mess up pace from different parts of tracks (and you NEVER want to go the same way everyy day!), you just make a mess.)

=> Exactly like when analyzing bike activities: Segments need to show you: average, top, and actual SPEED in any point.

( ^ totally clear basics. If wanted, i could start thinking about this topic ;-) )

  • I completely agree with Christian - both speed and pace.
