Alpine ski segments

it would be nice if it didn’t list as segments. I have a day where I get in 16 runs, but half the runs don’t show up in the segments. I can see them on the map, they are counted as runs, but not listed in segments. Any idea how I can get this to lay each run out as a segment?

  • first,  someone (or you) would have needed to "create" a segment,  or turn each run/trail into a named strava segment.   second, if it is a wide enough trail,  then your gps data may be not be accurate enough to trigger the segment...as in if the creator of the segment stayed to the right of the trail,   and you skied down the left side,   it may not be close enough to match your gps data to the segment.

they really need to get rid of any uphill segments under the "alpine skiing" activity.  no one cares who got to the top of the chairlift first.

  • Thanks for the reply.  I'm just kind of starting with Strava, so this info is helpful.  Now to google how to create a segment!

  • Weirdly, I have most of the KoM's on my local ski lifts! I suspect this is because I ski early mornings and I'm often the only person on the lift, meaning it goes just that tiny bit faster than usual, and I do it often enough to hit that a few times - and nobody can catch me :) Uphill ski segments are otherwise completely useless (I'm not talking about touring/backcountry!).

  • as i said before,   it makes absolutely no sense to have uphill segments under the "alpine skiing" activity.    funny that the lighter chairlift load does make you a bit faster.  the problem is that people ride the lifts,  then ski off piste and select "backcountry ski" as the activity,  which in some sense could be correct,  but really not at all backcountry skiing because you rode the lifts.   these people pollute and skew the leaderboards for the people who actually skin up the lift line.   obviously it wont affect skintracks that don't follow the lift line.   it's just like E-bikes ruining the leaderboards for regular cyclists.   nothing against alpine skiing obviously, and i don't think people really think about these things when picking activity type....and even if they did they probably don't care.    the real issue (as with essentially every point on these message boards)  is that strava doesn't care to make an easy fix to make things better for the user.
