Option to change custom Heart Rate Zones for activities in a specific period // Option to change FTP only for new activities

In my settings my Heart Rate Zones were (automatically) based on Max Heart Rate. Then, until a year ago, I changed them to my custom Heart Rate Zones, mainly because the Zone "Z4 Threshold" was a bit to high. So all in all only little changes.
But this change in the settings from automatic to custom had a huge impact to the calculation of the relative effort for new activities – the relative effort is now much lower for new activites. In the following year, my fitness curve dropped massively, although I trained lot more.

So, there has to be an option to change the custom Heart Rate Zones for all activities or only for activities in a specific period, and then recalculate the relative effort for these activities, and generate a new Fitness & Freshness curve. Otherwise the Fitness & Freshness curve is useless!

The funny thing is, when I change in my settings my FTP – because I've made a FTP-Test and I've improved my FTP – this value affects to all activities, also to the activities in the past. Also useless, because my FTP from today has noting to do with my FTP from two years ago ...

So, there also has to be an option to change the FTP only for all new activities, not for activites in the past!

  • I have the same problem.  Since I set my HRZ to custom, a hard training has almost no effect on fitness.

I wonder which percentages of max HR you need to use to fill in the 5 zones.  I did a professional HR test two months ago, from which I got 7 zones.  So I tried to guess which is which, and as a result, Strava wasn't as impressed with my efforts as before, although I train more and harder.

  • The proof that Strava delivers for the same activity and same HR Zones completely different relative Efforts is the following test:

    1. I set my HR Zones to "Based on Max Heart Rate", for me HRmax = 189 bpm
    2. I upload an Activity (10.5 km in 49:50) , go to Analysis ...
    3. Strava sets my HR Zones automatically to:
    Z1 < 122
    Z2 122 - 153
    Z3 153 - 168
    Z4 168 - 183
    Z5 > 183
    4. Relative effort = 51

Then I deleted this activity and did the same game again, but now:

    1. I set my HR Zones to "Custom Heart Rate Zones"
    2. I set my HR Zones to the EXACTLY SAME HR Zones as Strava did before:
    Z1 < 122
    Z2 122 - 153
    Z3 153 - 168
    Z4 168 - 183
    Z5 > 183
    2. I upload an Activity (10.5 km in 49:50), go to Analysis
    4. Relative effort = 17

Same activity, exactly same HR Zones, massive difference in Relative Effort: 51 vs. 17

So, as soon as you make any changes in your HR Zones, the Fitness & Freshness curve is no longer useful!

Please Strava, make it working right and logical/understandable, beause we pay money for this Analysis pack.
