New post ideas

This is the place to suggest new post ideas.

As you know, we made some changes to our forum that will enable our small team to do a better job of engaging with you. One of these changes was controlling the creation of new posts and topics. If you cannot find a thread under which to post your comment, you can suggest a new post idea here.

Please make sure to 'upvote' the comments below that you'd like to see as individual topics.

How to format your new idea and/or feedback:

Feedback that is actionable and constructive is most effective. When sharing, please consider the following when framing your thoughts:

  • If you have a new idea, it's helpful for us to understand why that feature is important for you and the value it will bring. For example: I want __. It will allow me to do ___. The reason that is important is because of ___. An example of when I needed that was ___.
  • Specific examples and details that illustrate the problem/confusion you are experiencing. For example: When I do ___, then ___ happens and that is not ok because ___.
  • Screenshots that help visually illustrate the problem. For example: Here is a picture illustrating my point ___ from above. See how ___ is doing ___?
  • An explanation of why this is important. For example: This is important to me because ___.
  • If you propose a solution, an explanation of how that solution would help you and why that is important. For example: I think a ___ would be great because then I could see ___. This is important to me because I have to ___.

If someone has already suggested the same idea as you, you can help us quantify the demand for the feature or improvement by upvoting the original comment. To upvote, click the up arrow on the right-hand side of the comment.

  • Kyle Mason and Matt Sherman we recognize this has been a long requested feature, I will gladly pass this suggestion along. I wanted to alert you to a 3rd party service that is not affiliated with Strava but might be able to address the situations you are facing: https://activityfix.com.  Activity Fix allows you to define conditions to make changes to your activities. In your cases, you could create a rule that says if you upload a Virtual Ride, a specific gear of yours should be assigned to the activity. While our team is not able to provide support for this 3rd party service, I thought you might be interested.

  • Choose a Sport. When starting an activity on an iPhone (I assume it's the same on an Android) I have to scroll through the whole list to find my activity. It would be great to be able to re-order the list so the activities I do are at the top or exclude the activities I do not use. Alternatively, Strava could automatically sort my list based on most used to least used.

  • Please, add a new activity to app Strava  - Nordic Walking. This is activity is very popular inthe World but different from usual walking.

Прошу добавить вид активности в приложение, как скандинавская ходьба с палками. Этот вид спорта очень популярен в мире.

  • *OPZIONI PRIVACY PER CLUB SOLO SU INVITO*

    Salve,

    Grazie mille!

    * PRIVACY OPTIONS FOR CLUBS BY INVITATION ONLY *

    Hello,
I created a cycling club only with some of my friends, with the "by invitation only" option.
After I uploaded various activities, I noticed that the leaderboard is public: you can see how many kilometers I have done in two weeks, and what was the longest ride I have done.
I would like to have more privacy control for clubs too, so that other people don't see anything but the club name and photo.
I think it's a contradiction - in my case - that if I block a person, they don't see my activities, but if they find the club I have created, they can see how long I have ridden.

I kindly ask you to add toggles for this option, in order to give more privacy to small clubs that want to share *with each other * the activities made.
    Thanks so much!

  • Can we have 'nudge' button like 'kudos' button to nudge our friends who have stopped or doing infrequent activities?

  • I would like the recently appeared map layer with 'points of interest' and 'starting points' to be optional. I use the maps for route planning and in my area the maps have become so cluttered up with information for which I have no use that planning a route becomes impossible.

  • It's been posted here already, and I upvoted it, but I want to echo the request to be able to track gear by hours rather than just miles. This is important for cyclists, particularly mountain bikers, who want to know when it's time to bring in the bike to service suspension components according to the manufacturer''s recommended service interval. For example, my front fork manufacturer recommends servicing the fork lowers every 50 riding hours, and damper and spring every 200 hours. It would be helpful to either have some kind of note for a date of last service included, or to be able to filter my Strava data by gear (bike) and by date to obtain hours of moving time since that date.

  • Differentiate "Longest run on Strava" from "Furthest run on Strava".

I did a trail run that lasted 4.5hrs, but I've never run for longer than that, however I have run further than that, just in less time, but I still get congratulated for my "Longest run on Strava".

  • I would like to have the ability to choose which sport is displayed on the statistics page, currently it shows cycling, running and swimming. I never run or swim, I cycle, hike and walk. I would find having the ability to be able to choose which activity can be selected on this page very useful as I can see at a glance how much of each activity I have completed.

  • why can Strava not give notifications on your ride if you improve on your power curve for any given time?

for some people they might want to hid this data, but others it will show progression

  • Two Ideas I'd love to see on the app:

    1) Segment comparisons- it would be great if you can take two segments and compare them side by side.  It would be a great way when routing to compare a segment you've already done, with a new segment to you.  Incline, distance, elevation, just a quick side by side of the key stats.  Or potentially you can do a search when you find a segment, and ask the app to find a comparable segment that you've already done.

    2) Route voting.  The Strava generated routes can put you in a bit of a dangerous position sometimes, and it's hard to find established routes from other riders in a new area, especially routes you can trust.  it would be great to make the public created routes more accessible, and allow the community to vote/comment on how good the route is, or if there is anything to lookout for on it.  Kind of like a YELP for routes.

  • Give users the ability to customize data fields shown when a completed activity is viewed in the mobile app. Currently, when I (and others) view my rides in the app, one of the data fields displayed is "Calories". I would prefer "Cadence" as it tells much more about my ride and is more relevant to me and my riding friends than how many calories I may have burned.

  • Hello

It would be nice to have updated satellite images/maps. I personally use them for creating routs etc. Its also nice when you reviewing your ride or wanting to create a new segment.

    Thank you!

  • Agree with Tailwind Tanya, but with slight modification; I want to be able to customize my news feed, with sort and filter options, inside of the news feed (don't want to have to go into settings each time to make a change).

    Types of criteria I want:
    1) People: I want to be able to filter to see only my "favorites" or close friends on Strava (so filter based on favorites vs all following)

    2) Time vs Relevant: I want to be able to switch between chronological and most relevant activities (which I assume uses some algorithm of how often I like a given person's posts and how many kudos a particular post has gotten, and how recent is it, and maybe how far it is from my location)... Sometimes I just want to see what happened today. Other times I want to see the most impressive accomplishments of friends recently.

    3) Sport type: I hope someone at Strava is reading this forum because I've seen echoes of this same request all through the forum. Please let us filter out certain sport types from our feed. If this doesn't get addressed, the news feed will run the risk of being too cluttered with irrelevant things and people will stop using it. This is how social media platforms begin to die. They do something well, gain a following/user base, and then to expand at the expense of their existing followers by adding advertisements, new unwanted content, etc. You can add the new stuff, but if you want to keep the old users, you have to make it possible for them to continue to get from the platform what they started coming to it for. For a lot of us, it's about certain activity types, from certain people.

  • Provide filter options for Activity Feed

I have more than 100 contacts now and my Activity Feed gets very busy. I'd like to see only certain types of activity here so that I don't miss any great efforts from my friends.

For example - only show activities:
    Sport = Run
    Type of Run = Any
    Distance = 4km+

It would be great if this could be added as a settings option against the account and then applied to the Activity Feed view for both the web application and the mobile app.

Love Strava - keep up the good work!

  • Dear Strava developer

It would be great to have some kind of indication of the route direction on any Strava platform, be that web or mobile app. Currently, it's unable to see from a route what the direction of travel is.

    Best regards

  • I want to be able to track how much commute distance was done by a group in the last x (day, week, month, year). Ideally as a website widget. It will allow me to show how much human powered travel was done by the group and therefore saved using vehicles for the same distance. The reason that is important is because of environment and sustainability and encouraging people not to use a vehicle when they don't have to.

  • Better stat tracking on equipment (especially to guide maintenance).  For my bikes, I use a mix of miles and hours to judge when I service them.  Specifically shocks on mountain bikes and adding more sealant to tires.  It would be great to implement some kind of equipment log so you knew how many hours since last shock service or how long since you last added sealant to tires.  Right now I am doing this on spreadsheets and I have thought about using the APIs to build a BI tool to help me with it, but it seems like it would be relatively easy to integrate to the product in a clean user friendly way.

  • Add Dirt Bike / Motorcycle (off road motorcycle. gas and electric motor the same.)

Hello. Long time Strava user MTB. Can you please add Dirt Bike / Motorcycle (off road motorcycle) to the use type? There are thousands of miles trails that are used for mtb and dirt bike riding here in the US. A lot of us ride these same trails for both uses. Dirt bike riding is a healthy and extremely physical legitimate(much longer trail use history than MTB) trail activity that deserves a use type. You have already created a motorized bicycle category (Ebike). Dirt bikes (combustion or electric engine) are similar trail sport machines.

  • I would like a way to limit the types of activities available on Apple Watch. In the past year over a dozen new activity types have been added making it much more difficult to use the watch app and find the activity I want to use. I only use a small handful of the available options so a way to either reorder them or hide ones I will never use. There now over 30 activities available and most users probably kinky use 3-5 at most. The ability to sort or re-order or even automatically reorder based on usage history. Anything g to make it less clunky on a small watch screen

  • I want activities logged on Apple Watch to show up in the iPhone App as a draft so I can add photos and change the title before publishing. Or at least, upon tapping “Finish”, show two buttons (“Publish” and “Edit on iPhone”).

I often don’t have time to add the photos, description, title, etc. right after an activity, or don’t have any cell service, so I’d rather be able to push it to the app and publish when I feel ready. Publishing a generic “Afternoon ride” is simply bad UX. And if someone gets notified of my activity and gives ‘Kudos’ immediately, they won’t see any of the details once they’re added, missing the point.

I end up stressing about getting all the details in as fast as possible once I do upload to make sure nobody sees it before I do. This is ridiculous imo and not how any other social media app is designed. Imagine if Facebook would just post “good afternoon” immediately every time when you click add post, and you have to edit it in order to say what you want.

  • Attended Activity/Event comparison

Often we meet likeminded athletes at races and events. We follow them on Strava, as one does, but then after a couple of months we may seem to forget where we met them, who they actually were and why we followed them in the first place... clogging up our feeds with 'Randoms'

A cool feature would be if we could pull up an athlete and see which events, runs or races we may have attended together. A kind of snapshot timeline or overview of what activities you attended together and when you started following each other etc.

This not only provides a reminder of who they are but could also allow us to compare progress from when we last attended an activity together, encourage friendly competition and future meetups at events.

This can also be extended to other athletes who we may still intend to follow. It would be really interesting to see if we ever attended the same event as a rising star or a sporting legend should they have visible privacy settings.
