New post ideas

This is the place to suggest new post ideas.

As you know, we made some changes to our forum that will enable our small team to do a better job of engaging with you. One of these changes was controlling the creation of new posts and topics. If you cannot find a thread under which to post your comment, you can suggest a new post idea here.

Please make sure to 'upvote' the comments below that you'd like to see as individual topics.

How to format your new idea and/or feedback:

Feedback that is actionable and constructive is most effective. When sharing, please consider the following when framing your thoughts:

  • If you have a new idea, it's helpful for us to understand why that feature is important for you and the value it will bring. For example: I want __. It will allow me to do ___. The reason that is important is because of ___. An example of when I needed that was ___.
  • Specific examples and details that illustrate the problem/confusion you are experiencing. For example: When I do ___, then ___ happens and that is not ok because ___.
  • Screenshots that help visually illustrate the problem. For example: Here is a picture illustrating my point ___ from above. See how ___ is doing ___?
  • An explanation of why this is important. For example: This is important to me because ___.
  • If you propose a solution, an explanation of how that solution would help you and why that is important. For example: I think a ___ would be great because then I could see ___. This is important to me because I have to ___.

If someone has already suggested the same idea as you, you can help us quantify the demand for the feature or improvement by upvoting the original comment. To upvote, click the up arrow on the right-hand side of the comment.

  • Feedback on ideas - there are hundreds here - feedback is Strava provide feedback on ideas.

I will soon start subscribing because the feedback / support and development for features is too slow, particularly addition of sensors and making Strava a single solution.

    Thanks,

    Malcolm

  • Hi
I feel that you could add the option a gold level of kudos for outstanding runs/rides. For example I’ve just seen a friend of mine that’s run a half in 1:11 and feel that this would really be inspiring to him.

    Thanks

    David

  • Hi, I'd like to see a regular/monthly swim distance badge (I think the last one was in April) for 20km.

There are monthly distance challenges for running/cycling/walking, and maybe others, but not for swimming.

The challenge of swimming 20km in a month motivates me to swim more - as with all the other badges.

So I'm just not sure why it's not a regular thing? I think it ought to be.

    Thanks, Kevin

  • VIRTUAL WALK Option

I use Zwift on the treadmill and even though the only option (at this stage) is to start a treadmill session as a RUN, I would like the option to be able to within STRAVA to change the activity from a VIRTUAL RUN to a VIRTUAL WALK.

It will allow me to correctly capture the data of virtual walks vs virtual runs. The reason that is important is because 90% of my time on a treadmill is WALKING not RUNNING. My PROGRESS data for VIRTUAL WALKS and VIRTUAL RUNS are therefore skewed. Especially when I am trying to train for a 6day hike, as I am trying to capture my daily kms of walking. But this is not reflective in STRAVA.

I am able to change the activity within Garmin but it is strava which I capture all my data. in STRAVA.

  • Un idea. While it is great to be able to compare my results with others, it is also annoying that the results are "blurred" by some obvious mistakenly chosen activity types or even faked results.

One idea could be to filter out results that are obviously unrealistic. At least from the listings. Like running faster than the world champion or cykling longer than the tour de france winner.

  • Add "Trail Maintenance" activity type: It would be awesome if you could select "Trail Maintenance" as an activity type when recording an activity.  This would allow users the ability to log when they had recently done trail maintenance so others would know that a particular segment is in great condition for a ride or run.  Here in Alaska, the growth rate of the vegetation in summer months is unbelievably fast due to 20+ hours of sunlight, so we have to "mow" our trails 2-3 times per summer to keep them passable.  If Strava could track trail maintenance activity like a KOM for a given segment, then it could communicate to other users (or volunteers like me!) what segments are in need of attention.  Local advocacy and trail maintenance organizations could form a "club" and direct resources accordingly.  It seems like a pretty easy add and application of some basic business logic (e.g. if last maintenance date is >30 days from today, delete current KOM) it would be a very useful tool.

  • Topic: My Routes, suggestion to group created/ shared routes within a folder or user created group.

Idea: I have a lot of cerated routes in the "My Routes" view which I either created myself (majority of them) or are shared with me.
What would be great is if I could cluster/ group them into a folder; i.e. if I'm planning a couple of routes for a holiday (from a different location), it would be great to have them in one place and not search through them in the basic "my routes" view... which can also be on multiple pages (of created at different times or if you duplicate).

So, I propose an option to create a folder within "My Routes", naming it as desired and then be able to "move" specific routes (either created or shared) into it.

This would enable me to have a better overview of created routes, where they start from, even by intention (if only specific segments, not complete routes, etc).

Thanks for the feedback and possibly even implementing this idea.

  • I recommend adding "e-bike" to the Default Sport field on the Display Preferences page. E-bike riders have to manually change the Sport field to e-bike for every ride added.

  • Provide option to record weight by activity. This enables and therefore provide the following important benefits:
    1) Watts per Kg more accurate.
    2) Use within segment analysis of own rides to see impact of weight change over time.
    3) ability to record weight history and see variation over time within app (rather than relying on other products)
    4) activity weight defaults to profile weight. Or remove from profile and use most recent activity weight as default.

Suggest weight is always private or at least there is ability to hide (like heart rate)

  • Add 'Gravel' as a bike type in equipment. It's one of the most popular types of bikes ATM but isn't an option. 'Cross' is somewhat similar but is nowhere near as common.

  • Allow for multiple sets of wheels on a given bike. Right now I can track my mileage on a bike, but have no way to tell how many miles are on one set of wheels (/tires/cassette) versus another. I'm sure lots of people are like me and use multiple wheelsets on the same bike. I can track this through Garmin using different activity profiles but that's not an elegant solution.

  • I would like to see a brand new feature called "First Time Climb" or something. Where I live - Norfolk in the UK - is extraordinarily flat. So to ride on any hills I normally have to travel quite some distance. Anyway I do this once a year or so - get on the train, travel 100 miles or so etc - and then give it my best when I get to range of hills I've gone to. However, we all know how much easier a climb is if you are familiar with it, which means people like myself - first timers on a climb - face a large disadvantage, not knowing anything about the climb - when to give it some, when to maintain tempo etc. However, if there were a separate classification on the leader board - "First Timers" for example, then I feel this would give a fairer reflection - excluding those who can climb the hill with so much more confidence due to their repeated attempts. Do it a second time and this attempt will only feature on the main leader board, not the first time category. The beauty of this idea is that many people like myself only ever get to ride certain hills once, so they would be able to rate themselves against all first timers and get a better picture of how everyone got on first time, not just the local guys on their 23rd effort!

  • Would it be useful to others to be able to set the weekly activity chart on your profile page to display default to your preferred metric (time/distance/elevation)? The current default is distance, and along with elevation is a poor training metric. I ride road, CX, gravel, MTB and also run too so I'm not interested in seeing distance illustrated. *Time* spent training is surely much more useful for multi-disciplinary athletes to be able to see at a glance? I can't be alone?

    • It would be great to add what type of bike is one riding (gravel, road, mountain, etc.) and then filter by this type on heatmaps and route planning.

    • This could be very useful when checking some routes and route planning. Currently, you can only select paved/dirt roads, which is a lot of time not specified, and also it is not enough.

    • You have heatmaps, you have the data, just adding a type of bike could make a GREAT difference on route planning (Sometimes I want to go only on a road bike, so I select heatmaps where road bikes ride. Sometimes I want to go gravel, so I select gravel + road - but exclude mountain bikes [as they might use routes that are not ridable on gravel bikes]. Or just somebody I follow rides and interesting route, but I want to be sure that it is ridable on my type of bike)

  • The fitness score erodes after one day of inactivity, this is not reflective of how fitness really works. I would like to see the algo to be adjusted so that if you on consectutive days of activity and take a rest day or recovery day, the fitness score will remain for at least 2 days - as we don't lose fitness immediately.

This would allow me to take rest days without the guilt of losing fitness (yes, I am a bit of a slave to strava).

The rate at which the fitness score is reduced also needs to be adjusted, as the depletion is way faster than it would be in reality. One point for every 2 days for one week, AFTER the first two days of no depletion seems about right.

Further, you could decrease the effort point at which one can lose fitness even while being active. We should lose fitness while active. If the effort is minimal for x# days then the depletion can start.

  • In the Summer, i like to mountain bike at a lift-served resort but I can't find a way to tag the ride as such and have Strava automatically remove the climbs from my stats as any groups that I'm a part of are skewed by my insane climb statistics.

It seems like it would be a simple solution for Strava to implement to sense impossibly steady ascents that are within a buffered distance of well-known bike resorts and ask people "Was this a lift-served ride?" when posting; this could even only be active in Summer when the resorts feature biking.

  • Hi - I'm a cyclist. I don't really have much interest in people's dog walks or swims. It would be great to have a filter in the feed to show/hide different activity types. I'm really happy if my friend does a 100km bike ride, not so much if he walks to the shops. So hiding his walks and keeping his bike rides would reduce the noise in my feed and probably earn him more kudos as otherwise he'd be muted...

  • Hi Strava.

I have the need to ad just some items to the pick lists

In the sports-list I really miss the sports Roadcycling (Wegwielrennen) and Mountainbiking (Mountainbiken)

The reason why I miss them is because as a cycling-sporter I now have only "Fietsrit" I think Roadcycling and Mountainbiking ar the two most importent types of sport one does on a bike. A "Fietsrit" isn't even a sport, it is just a ride on any bicycle Perhaps there is a thirds type of cycling sport nowadays, called Gravel-biking or Gravelling? this probably is also wanted in the list by many Cliclists.

Then in the very short pick-list of type of sport I now have only Training and Race I very badly miss the type of ride called Touring ride ( in Dutch). This is important because most of the bicycle riders are Tour-riders, not racers. We train for wonderful Tour-rides (Toertochten)

  • New Feature Request: "Who Spent The Most Time At The Front"

Leaderboards etc. on Strava drive competition and gamification.  It would be a great feature to understand on a given bike ride who spent the most time at the front of the group and who stayed in the draft.  Perhaps the accuracy of the GPS data is not good enough for this, but it is only for fun.  There is always one or two in a group who feel they spend more time at the front than they actually do, so this would provide great insight and would result in much banter among the group.

  • Really miss some sport - options like "orienteering". Please have a walk through of these options (for instance, look at other providers like Garmin/Polar what they offer).

    Thanks,

  • Yes this app is primarily used for cycling and running but it also offers great features for other activities. I’m an avid cyclist but also an avid horse back rider and I think there should really be a horse back activity option. I currently use Canoeing just so I get max speed, avg speed etc.

  • It is fantastic when I am out running and Spotify just happen to play the perfect song -- for when I am doing a tempo run and it give me that just right track to pace. Or when I am struggling and on comes that song that causes me to pep up my feet.

Wouldn't it be cool if Strava was synced with Spotify in such a way that it learned what songs worked for me best in certain conditions? Like if it saw I was slugging through a long run and all of a sudden got my mojo back, it could learn that song that came on at that moment and offer it back up to me in similar moments in the future. Or if there were songs that were playing on a certain route where I ran my best mile it could offer those up again when I was on that route.

So like an machine learning playlist...

    would be pretty cool

  • Please make it really easy for the e-bike riders to tag their activity as an e-bike ride. Especially on steep climbs they move much faster, with much less effort. It is important because if you train hard for a long time to finally achieve the QOM on a segment, its really annoying to loose it to an e-bike rider. Maybe they can tick a box for e-bike as they save the activity?. The right owner of the QOM should not be the one that have to flag the activity, and improve information that supports the claim.

  • I would be great if it was possible to add wetsuits as a gear in swimming. For now it is only possible to add and use shoes and bikes but many of us use several different wetsuits when swimming so I like to add wetsuit as a gear in swimming.

    Thanks!

  • Thank you for providing the Gear-section where I can add new components.

I have a suggestion for you regarding this. Because all components will be "retired" as of today one can not retire components in the past. A feature like "retired at <<DATE>>" would mean we also would be able to make a complete list of all components used and all the new components and the km calculation would be correct. Right now it is only possible to maintain the list of all components if you do it from the very beginning.

  • hello

As you knew, more and more people use to do aquatic walk in swimming pool or à long beach. this activity is more strong than simply walk and need to burn more calories and workout.

is impossible to add this session in the activity purposed?

I think that I will be not the only one to use it.

thanks to take attention to my request.

  • When we make or join club event, our group members have a healthy discussion on stops, changes to the route, who is coming, any changes requested etc. However, the discussion is only available on Strava web but not on Strava App (iOS). Can we have comments and discussions for club events in the Strava app please.
