New post ideas

This is the place to suggest new post ideas.

As you know, we made some changes to our forum that will enable our small team to do a better job of engaging with you. One of these changes was controlling the creation of new posts and topics. If you cannot find a thread under which to post your comment, you can suggest a new post idea here.

Please make sure to 'upvote' the comments below that you'd like to see as individual topics.

How to format your new idea and/or feedback:

Feedback that is actionable and constructive is most effective. When sharing, please consider the following when framing your thoughts:

  • If you have a new idea, it's helpful for us to understand why that feature is important for you and the value it will bring. For example: I want __. It will allow me to do ___. The reason that is important is because of ___. An example of when I needed that was ___.
  • Specific examples and details that illustrate the problem/confusion you are experiencing. For example: When I do ___, then ___ happens and that is not ok because ___.
  • Screenshots that help visually illustrate the problem. For example: Here is a picture illustrating my point ___ from above. See how ___ is doing ___?
  • An explanation of why this is important. For example: This is important to me because ___.
  • If you propose a solution, an explanation of how that solution would help you and why that is important. For example: I think a ___ would be great because then I could see ___. This is important to me because I have to ___.

If someone has already suggested the same idea as you, you can help us quantify the demand for the feature or improvement by upvoting the original comment. To upvote, click the up arrow on the right-hand side of the comment.

  • Tertius V. - Maybe I am confused, but when I go to create routes in Strava, it lets me go anywhere, including off-road and even totally cross country (no road, trail, path, etc...).  It will default to following known trails, but you can toggle on the "manual mode" which will let you go anywhere you want on the map whether or not there are roads or trails.  You can even tell it to show segments so you can make sure to include them if you want.

  • I cannot read strava posts on my new smaller phone because the font is so small.  Strava needs to either have the words in the posts able to be zoomed (stretched bigger) or have an option in the app to change the size of the font.   Many, many of my friends are in my age range (50's or older) and the tiny font does not work for those of us in this range.  Thank you!

  • Bonjour

  • Strava is extremely competitive when it comes to local riding groups.

When ever we finish a ride, we always share screenshots of the leaderboard for a particular segments that we may have done well on.

This creates hype and competitiveness in the community.

Below you will see a screenshot for a leaderboard but it doesn't tell you which segment it's from

It would be cool to have it included somewhere something like this:

  • I want to be able to add/remove/move components without having to retire them.

For example, I have multiple wheels and tyres, which I would like to track the usage of, that can be moved from bike to bike, or returned to the cupboard (say winter or summer tyres), the same could also apply to helmet/shorts/shirt/shoes. Also I sometimes take bags with me and sometimes not, this affects the weight, and therefore the power calculation.

  • Kyle Mason and Matt Sherman we recognize this has been a long requested feature, I will gladly pass this suggestion along. I wanted to alert you to a 3rd party service that is not affiliated with Strava but might be able to address the situations you are facing: https://activityfix.com.  Activity Fix allows you to define conditions to make changes to your activities. In your cases, you could create a rule that says if you upload a Virtual Ride, a specific gear of yours should be assigned to the activity. While our team is not able to provide support for this 3rd party service, I thought you might be interested.

  • Route Planner to Automatically Identify Low/Non-Travelled Sections Using Heatmap Data

The Strava heatmap is incredibly useful for planning bikepacking trips and gravel rides in rural areas where the "roads" that google displays may not truly exist or be unrideable (uncleared trails, gated roads, etc). However, the process I currently use to make sure my planned route is reasonably rideable is to pull up two screens (one with the route and one with the heatmap) and make sure every section has adequate tracks on the heatmap. For long routes, this is incredible time-intensive and error-prone. It would be much better if the route planner could give some indication of sections that need attention.

One way could be a toggle to switch the elevation profile to a "usage" profile with the y-axis representing the relative usage of each point along the route. I.e. "100%" means that particular point is the most-travelled point across the entire route and "0%" means there are zero tracks on the heatmap for a particular point. This way you could quickly identify sections of the route that are far less travelled compared to the rest of the route which would prevent mid-ride issues.

  • You're welcome Matt Sherman just to clarify, it's not a bug. It's just a feature that we haven't yet implemented in our product.

  • Filtering activities we see from Athletes we follow.

It would be great to be able to filter the activities we want to see for athletes we follow, for example I only want to see running activities for a distance of 5km plus, I'm not terribly interested in seeing people log multiple activities for the one workout which includes 50m walks to a coffee shop etc. Some people may only want to see riding activities etc. I feel like the feed is becoming loaded up with mundane activities where people are tracking steps etc

  • It would be great to be able to organise all my routes - so for example to alphabetise them so I can find a route quickly without have to trawl through them all. Or perhaps be able to put them in folders.

    Thanks

  • Bike Components

Many cyclist now use treatments such as immersion waxing of their chain.  These treatments typical last 300-400 kms. I would like to be able to monitor the distance I have ridden on a treatment.

Could a new component "Chain Treatment" (or similar) be provided. I already use the "Chain" component to record the total kms of a chain.

  • Suggestion to improve the “My Gear” section:

I use the My Gear section quite actively for my bikes. I have a few ideas that I think would improve it.

    1. The ability to refit retired items. For example, on my commuter bike I switch between a summer set of tyres and a winter set of tyres. It would be good to be able to swap between the two rather than permanently retiring a set each year.
    2. The ability to set service intervals on items. For example, on my Trail and Enduro bikes it would be good to be able to set service reminders for the front and rear suspension so that after the allotted riding time you get a notification telling you to service said part> EG: A Fork lower service every 50 riding hours and a major service every 150 riding hours. (plucked the units out of thin air so don’t quote me).

Another example would be on your chain. Some people like to swap every 3000km or some like to check the chain wear every 200km, would be good to be able to set this and receive notifications.

  • Not really a question but a request. Your list of activities does not include uphill skinning, which would be defined as within ski area boundaries to differentiate it from backcountry skiing. Any way you could add this activity? Quite popular here in Colorado. This would allow me to track specific parameters such as heart rate, pace, elevation gain, time elapsed. Currently none of your activities fit this workout. Thanks

  • I would appreciate that Strava will synchronize the name (as well as the description) of the activity from the connected Garmin account. For example, runalyze.com does this even if the name is later updated on the Garmin side.
I implemented a C # utility to import activities older than 90 days, including the name and description. I noticed that updateActivityById, when updating the name, stops importing the name when it reaches the # or + character and does not import trailing spaces. This should be stated in the documentation.

  • I usually train for running using a treadmill. I use Garmin Fenix 6 to record my running activity on the treadmill and, during the activity, I set a different slope for every interval training, so I know what is the slope used in any interval and the mean slope of the whole training.

Unfortunaltely Garmin do not want to give the possibility to introduce the slope in my recorded activity (I asked them many times...).

So, I would ask if Strava could give that capability. I thing that there is many differencies if I run on a flat treadmill or on treadmill with different slopes, isn't there?

  • Hi,

A great feature would be to track the vertical meters for your skins in the activity Backcountry Ski (SkiMo), almost similar to the running activity, where you can see the kilometers on your shoes.

This feature would be great, so you can see after how much vertical meters your skins lose grip, it would help a lot.

Guess Backcountry Ski or Ski Mountaineering is really booming right now.

    THANKS

    greetings from Austria

  • I’ve been running on Strava for a while but was shocked when I started swimming due to injury and found poor swimming features and therefore no community / swim groups - you’re missing a huge market because of a few features.

    Including:
    Swimming Challenges
    SWOLF score
    Fastest splits 50m 100, 200, 500, 1k, 5k
    Stroke type

I’m going to have to download a different app for swimming which seems crazy seeing as you’re halfway there. Thanks

  • Create a filter to view only the activities of the "Favorite" athletes.

One can select a single club, but Favorites below to many different clubs.  This would help us not miss activities of the athletes we care most about, while still allowing us to follow a broad network.

  • I think there should be a feature that links apple music and spotify to show every song you listened to during that ride. It would be a fun thing to see and if you listened to specific albums other people can see it and if you wanted to, you could come back to see what you listened to. This would help you have a nice little flashback listening to it. I believe the Map My Ride app from under armour used to have it, but when i re-downloaded it today ti check, it was not there.

  • Hi Team - I would like to suggest improvements to the 'Goal' feature. I find the ability to set goals really useful, and typically set an annual mileage goal. However, the current graph that is presented on the mobile app isn't useful - as you can't see the trend line and there aren't insights on historical or future predicted performance about the goal. Making the graph more readable, and including some better data insights would really improve this feature. I've attached a screenshot so you can see what I mean. Thanks, Tom

  • Can you access “Fitness and Freshness” via your app?
If you can’t, will you be adding this service?
It would be a great addition if you prominently displayed a persons “form” score at the start of their Activity profile.
    Thanks.

  • Choose a Sport. When starting an activity on an iPhone (I assume it's the same on an Android) I have to scroll through the whole list to find my activity. It would be great to be able to re-order the list so the activities I do are at the top or exclude the activities I do not use. Alternatively, Strava could automatically sort my list based on most used to least used.
