New post ideas

This is the place to suggest new post ideas.

As you know, we made some changes to our forum that will enable our small team to do a better job of engaging with you. One of these changes was controlling the creation of new posts and topics. If you cannot find a thread under which to post your comment, you can suggest a new post idea here.

Please make sure to 'upvote' the comments below that you'd like to see as individual topics.

How to format your new idea and/or feedback:

Feedback that is actionable and constructive is most effective. When sharing, please consider the following when framing your thoughts:

  • If you have a new idea, it's helpful for us to understand why that feature is important for you and the value it will bring. For example: I want __. It will allow me to do ___. The reason that is important is because of ___. An example of when I needed that was ___.
  • Specific examples and details that illustrate the problem/confusion you are experiencing. For example: When I do ___, then ___ happens and that is not ok because ___.
  • Screenshots that help visually illustrate the problem. For example: Here is a picture illustrating my point ___ from above. See how ___ is doing ___?
  • An explanation of why this is important. For example: This is important to me because ___.
  • If you propose a solution, an explanation of how that solution would help you and why that is important. For example: I think a ___ would be great because then I could see ___. This is important to me because I have to ___.

If someone has already suggested the same idea as you, you can help us quantify the demand for the feature or improvement by upvoting the original comment. To upvote, click the up arrow on the right-hand side of the comment.

  • It would be very nice to have a place to discuss improvements for the Strava app. My specific idea is about how segment matching behaves (there is a way to improve it significantly) but there are also other things that could be improved there. Unfortunately right now there isn't anywhere to post about those things.

  • Hi Strava.

It's great that maps now shows where segments start etc, but is it possible to flag dangerous roads for all riders to see?

I ask ask my local area probably like a lot of the world or at least the UK are experiencing increasing numbers of violent bike thefts, where often solo riders are targeted by 2+ motorbikes forcing riders off their bikes sometimes with knives.

I think enabling this via your maps function would be one of the best and safest additions you could offer.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

    Thank you.

  • Rob Johns, I gave your original comment an upvote.
We should all upvote these related issues.
I would hope that Strava would fix this mistake, but upvotes can't hurt can they?

  • It would be helpful to me if I could analyse my efforts for segments not only as metrics by effort (as it currently is) but as efforts by metric. Right now I highlight/select an effort and I can see the metrics trended over the duration of the effort, and hat is like to be able to do is inversely highlight/select a metric and see that metric across my efforts. This would make it so much.more interesting to see how say my speed/power/heart rate etc... has trended by my efforts/different time periods.

  • Hello Strava,

I would like to make a new suggestion about the clubs in strava.

I see that it's a bit strange to give the 'admin' role in the club the ability to delete the club as i suggest that this last action can be done only by the 'owner'.

Apart from that thanks for the cool app i love it!

  • Hello!

With the growth of Plogging - picking up litter while jogging- it would be great to have a tracking feature allowing me to quantify all the litter I pick up, and challenge friends/run clubs. I think it's important to keep our runways clean, and would love to be able to compete with neighbors. Thanks!

  • I think it would be great if we could "donate" miles from a run to another Strava person.   I read stories all the time where runners are struggling with health, family, mental health and other issues and it cool to be able to donate (give them my miles) miles to them to show support.  For Example, I finish a run, post my activity on Strava, see a Donate Miles button on the page and click the button and then search for a Strava user.  Find the user, and click Donate.  This would be done as a show of support to replace hashtag.  Hashtags help with searching but donated miles can show a large amount of support in the community.

  • Can Strava provide turn by turn directions for an activity route such as bike, run or nordic ski?  I would love a turn by turn for some of the ride competitions or training routes.

  • I would like the ability to categorize my manual sport activity. In addition to running/cycling I do two martial arts judo and tkd, currently have to categorize them as a workout. But there is no way then to see time spent in each individual art.

A solution could be to have the workout category but then allow the user to tag it with their own category.

    Thanks!

  • Privacy Controls > Additional Controls > Map Visibility > Hide the start and end points of activities that happen at a specific address. The 1 mile radius for this is too small for rural addresses, please increase the radius options

  • I want to be able to chose what my default map. The 3D map for mtb, trail, hiking does not help me in giving a good view of my track. I don't think the only way to not get the 3D map as default should be to cancel your subscription, but this is what I have done. Right now, I am waiting for my renewal day to get rid of the 3D maps! I might reconsider my cancelation, but not before it is possible to chose what default map is used.

  • What about assigning a regional moderator to a specific trail region or location?  There are more and more garbage segments popping up or segments that are duplicates of ones already in existence.  The moderator could act like the moderator currently in place in trailforks.  If someone creates a new segment the moderator would need to approve it.  Moderator could also delete duplicate segments or garbage mid run segments.  Obviously this would apply more to MTB than to road riding...

  • New Idea! Not related to posting, but:

I am looking for an option to add a person to my run when I start, and can track my whereabouts. It will allow me some comfort in knowing that someone knows my whereabouts when I am running alone or at night. An example of when I needed that was actually for my father who has some allergic reactions sometimes and when he is running it would be helpful if he could add myself or my mom in case something happens and she can have an idea of where he is and if he's okay (if the tracker shows him in the same place for awhile she might be able to try calling to check in).

  • Please add an option to reverse the graph bars on the miles run.
I get messed up when I see that the long bars are for shorter times and the short bars are for longer times.

  • Feature Request: I have 4 bikes with electronic shifting. It's difficult remembering when I last charged the batteries with this many bikes. Three times now I've gone out on a ride only to have the battery die halfway through. Strava has a great feature with running shoes that let you put in an end of life mileage. When this number is hit, you are notified. Could we please add a similar feature to bikes - a 'Battery' component with a mileage field that reminds you to recharge the battery after the number is hit. Pretty pretty please:)

  • I would like to suggest an enhancement/fix. I notice that when walking very slowly with my old dog, my iPhone shows a meandering route:

But if I use a watch (in this case, a few days earlier), it's less meandering and the distance is far more accurate:

Notice the distance captured using my iPhone is 20% longer than was recorded by my Apple Watch. My Apple watch is much closer to what my car says when I drive the route.

It looks like the iPhone is either capturing too many data points for this very slow dog walk or is failing to correctly consider the horizontal accuracy of the coordinates returned by the GPS. The walking distance, when captured by the phone, is just not accurate.

  • Idea for saving work of Strava Support team when dealing with countless flags of activities. Some of these flags are only based on envy and hate from the people who flag, therefore it should be more difficult for them to create flags in the first place. For instance, allow only Premium accounts to flag and do not flag anonymously, show the flagger's account to the person whose activity has been flagged. Also, have some way of verification of accounts, there are so many fake accounts, 1 person can easily create dozens of fake accounts with different email addresses. Verify account at time of creation. In addition, fake/unreasonable flags can be avoided in the future by implementing an algorithm which detects an activity as "cheating" or "non-cheating". Such an activity which is detected as "cheating", meaning either GPS or wattage data was manually modified can be easily classified as such. Also, there are a few criteria which always speak for legitimate, non-cheating activities:

    1. Riders with many year kilometers OUTSIDE, not on the home trainer.

    2. Riders who participate in competitions.

    3. Riders who often train with other professional cyclists.

    4. Riders who always upload their activities with Wattage so that the algorithm can calculate a W/kg for specific time on particular segments.

  • Is it possible to look into improving the graphs in “Anayse Effort” by overlaying the two graphs on top of each other rather than side by side by. By doing this you can compare the performances quickly as currently the two graphs are a different scales so it’s difficult to see how you can improve at a particular point on the segment.

  • Could we please add a new sport, specifically pole sport? It's a world wide competitive sport. It's a combination of gymnastics, flexibility, strength and cardio. Each acrobatic move we achieve is a goal gained and it would be nice to track our performance here. You'd also have to add gear, eg: "x-pole 38/40/45/50mm" etc. This is an incredibly difficult sport and it needs to be included in athletic communities.
Dance would be a great new sport to add also. It's cardio etc.
    Perhaps also flexibility training? Gymnastics/callisthenics?

    Food for thought.

    Thank you.

  • The fitness score erodes after one day of inactivity, this is not reflective of how fitness really works. I would like to see the algo to be adjusted so that if you on consectutive days of activity and take a rest day or recovery day, the fitness score will remain for at least 2 days - as we don't lose fitness immediately.

This would allow me to take rest days without the guilt of losing fitness (yes, I am a bit of a slave to strava).

The rate at which the fitness score is reduced also needs to be adjusted, as the depletion is way faster than it would be in reality. One point for every 2 days for one week, AFTER the first two days of no depletion seems about right.

Further, you could decrease the effort point at which one can lose fitness even while being active. We should lose fitness while active. If the effort is minimal for x# days then the depletion can start.

  • A section for gear improvements....and i shouldnt have to vote up a topic. If the feature is on your platform it should be a topic for support questions or improvements.

It's not popularity contest for f sake.

  • IMPROVING DATA (for swimming)

if swimming is 1 of the 3 most important sports (like your site/app) suggests, make it so we can define the style of swimming too, so we can compare results fairly; breaststroke, backstroke, freestyle.

    ROWING:

we need more than 4 digits in order to record data well.

    eg:

Time-wise rowing; more than 40min, could result in more than 4 digits for distance.

So; every time 'we' train on time, we can't use the data precisely, due to the max of 4 digits.

  • We should be able to post videos in our activities. I understand this would take up server space, so limit it. Limit to subscribers, and limit the duration of video upload by total seconds per day, or number of videos, whatever - but we should be able to post videos.

  • Could strava please make main road numbers more obvious in strava routes?

When trying to plot a route it would be easier to know for example instead of the road name Watling street add in BOLD that its actually the A5 and it would be easier to not accidentally use that road.

Or colour code roads, Motorways outlined blue, 'A' roads outlined red etc such as on OS maps.

  • I would like to be able to pin photos taken on a route into specific points on the route where they were taken (maybe there could be a little camera icon visible at each point). I don't know how to search for this in other posts so I'm sorry if this has been requested before! I guess it would be like pinned photos in Google Maps 🤷🏻‍♂️.

  • Jason Lamoreaux, it should be easy to solve the problem and separate the cycling disciplines between road, mtb, gravel, ..., and ther e-* variants as Marcelo Araújo and countless others have suggested here.

First about the history of data, they should do absolutely nothing. Each cycling discipline should be setup as subset of the "cycling" we have today and only be allowed to be picked by the user after he creates a compatible equipment indicating that it wants do record some of its activities as a specific cycling discipline. That should deal with the users that don't known how/want to do that as they would keep counting only for the general cycling like today.

Each subset of cycling should have their own leader board and stats, but every activity should update the general cycling leader boards and stats as well. That way we could for example keep count miles/km for cycling as whole while having different kom/qom for each cycling discipline. It is up to the user to what data is more interesting.

  • Hi there! I would like to propose adding scuba diving to the sports list. I switched to Strava so i wouldn’t need a separate logging-app for every sport. Even tho there are some scuba logging apps out there, they’re often not very user friendly (UI/UX). So I think it would be great if I could start logging my dives in Strava and centralise all my sport-data
