Route builder - no scroll, cannot create waypoint on created route

Scroll does not work on mac using 2 finger slide anymore, as it did a week or so ago.  Tried different Macs and browsers, all not working.

Also creating a waypoint on a route you've already created (going back over the route`) does not work anymore.

Both were fine until very recently, is there an issue?

Thanks everyone, I'm going to close this thread as from our end all issues have been resolved.

When viewing a route (not in editing mode) there is no "rabbit" on the map when scrolling through the elevation profile. We'd love to have a new feature request post created for this topic.

The discussion on sequential information when hovering over the waypoint is interesting, and I will mention it to the routes team.

    Thank you.

  • Thanks A Ward, the issues you report are being investigated by the team. I hope to have an update soon.

  • Piggy-backing off of this issue, other symptoms related to this:

    - zooming with the mouse wheel no longer works

    - When the elevation chart is on, hovering the mouse over the elevation no longer highlights the relevant point on the map, so you can't check where the location corresponds to the elevation

  • I've been having this issue as well for a few weeks. Route builder is much more difficult to use now, especially if your route crosses back over itself. I'm not sure if its part of the overall issue but the cursor is a hand now instead of an arrow and a few times in the past when i started a new route if the cursor was an arrow it worked fine, like it always had but with the hand cursor its always a fight to create routes

Edit-Also at times Route builder will not respond to moving around the map, any attempt to will just be received as a way point request, so you have to start all over again

  • Any updates of these issues? Route builder is becoming more and more frustrating to use

  • I was going to report the scroll wheel zoom issue, but I see that's working again now.

I do, however have 2 other issues now:

    1. As far as I can recall you used to get basic Waypoint information popups when you hovered your mouse over a waypoint. Most importantly it told you the sequential number of that waypoint in the current sequence. Knowing that is critical if you are trying to figure out what a route that cross over itself is doing and then move waypoints around. In order to do that you NEED to know the order of the waypoints, and the only way you could ever determine that before was by hovering the mouse over the waypoint to get that number.

That no longer seems to be active, at all.

    2. As reported above by others, the elevation chart no longer seems to be linked to the route map and moving your mouse over the chart no longer shows you a matching location on the route.

Again, this is important for editing routes and determining what direction a complicated route flows in and what the order of the visible waypoints is.

Both of those issues affect the ability to edit an existing route quite drastically and both were working perfectly before, so it would be nice if you please turn them back on.

    Thanks

  • Logged in to report the same issue as above: the map and the elevation profile are no longer linked on the route planner, which is a big problem when trying to create routes with a good balance of climbing.

  • Hello everyone,

I'm working with the engineer assigned to these route issues. We believe we've fixed the "cannot double-back on route" and the issue with the heatmap, and with the elevation "rabbit" and with the zoom scroll.

Can I have those of you on this thread verify?

  • Elle, thanks for following up. the "Rabbit" still doesn't work. Hovering over the elevation chart doesn't do anything on the map.

I can verify the "double-back on route" part works now.

  • The double back issues seems fixed, the scroll zoom works also and heat map is showing on my map but the elevation rabbit is not working for me

  • Hi Elle

I've just tested in Chrome and Edge and in both I'm not seeing most of the fixes.

The scroll button zoom IS now working again, but has been for a few days now.

I did clear my browser cache to be sure, that didn't help.

    Things still not working are:

    • Elevation profile not linked to route.
    • Mouse cursor is still a hand, not an arrow.
    • Hovering over waypoints still isn't showing waypoint info like it used to.
    • Clicking on waypoints in the waypoint list on the left does not activate the waypoint on the route, on the map, like it used to.

  • The elevation profile rabbit should be fixed later today. Thanks.

@Allan, I'll look into the waypoint hovering. What info did it use to display? I'm not sure if we will be switching back to the arrow from the "hand" cursor.

  • @Elle: As far as I can recall, hovering over the waypoints used to give you that waypoints sequential number in the sequence, which is very useful when editing complex routes and trying to determine exactly what order waypoints have been plotted in and therefore which direction the route is flowing. Without knowing that, and given that there is no other visual cue to indicate which way a route flows, you can't actually tell which way you are supposed to be travelling on a given route, or what the order of the waypoints is.

You could also, obviously, provide that info differently, and potentially show the waypoint numbers on the waypoints, on the route map, all the time, but I think that would get cluttered quickly, so the hover and then get the info on demand option seems like a better idea.

  • Progress.

I've just tested again and I see that:

    1. The rabbit linked to the elevation profile is working again.

    2. The cue sheet is active again and is linked to the route map again.

Given that those 2 things are now working properly again, the issue of hovering over a waypoint and getting it's sequence number is far less of a concern.

The rabbit allows you to quickly determine which way a route flows, and infer the plotted order of the waypoints, so I'd say we are back in business.

Thanks for looking into this and getting it resolved (and giving us active feedback) Elle.

  • Just forced a non-cache refresh (Ctrl+F5) in both Chrome (version 55.0.2883.87 m) and Edge and hovering over the elevation profile still doesn't highlight the location on the route.

Please fix this - I want to know in advance where to expect any major climbs!

    Thanks

  • There has clearly been some confusion here regarding where, exactly, the rabbit is expected to work.

I've been focusing on "Edit" mode all the time.

It looks like some people expect the rabbit to work on the route preview views too, which is a perfectly reasonable expectation.

The obvious simple solution right now is to just click "Edit", which gives you a far more detailed and much bigger view of the route anyway, and then use the rabbit there.

I personally think the route preview view is too small anyway and needs to be made bigger. The map should fill the screen like it does in Edit mode and not be confined to that small box it's in.

And yes, technically speaking the elevation rabbit should work in that view too.

  • Having to elevation rabbit linked to the map for route creation is absolutely basic stuff and it's been broken for a couple of weeks now at least. What is going on?  For people creating routes, this is important and it seems bizarre that it still hasn't been fixed. Update please.

  • @Paul: it is fixed. It has been for days already. It's working perfectly in the route builder, it just isn't working on the route preview screen which is read-only.

  • So it's actually not working then - it used to work in that route preview screen.

  • @Lewis: Correct, and already acknowledged, see my previous comments in this thread specifically dealing with this.

Paul's comment was: "Having elevation rabbit linked to the map for ROUTE CREATION is absolutely basic stuff ...."

The rabbit IS linked to the map for route creation, that was fixed days ago, it's working again properly, it is now only not working on the preview screen, and that preview screen needs to be reworked anyway in my opinion because the map is currently too small on there as it is, and yes, the rabbit needs to be turned back on there too.

  • I have problems for weeks, maybe months now with the route builder:
    1) when rolling over the route preview, it doesn't show you the position on the map related to the altitude
    2) sometimes when editing a route, the builder gets stuck and I can't move on the map anymore - every time I click somewhere to drag it to the side, it sets a new waypoint there
    3) and various other little bugs, but the two above are most annoying atm

  • DK YT, number one has been fixed for me for a couple weeks now, not sure why it's not working for you. When you say the route preview are you talking about the elevation chart you can toggle off/on at the bottom of the route builder or something else? It shows the location on the map if I drag my mouse across the elevation chart.

Your second issue about the map freezing and no longer responding to movement requests is happening a lot lately to me. Frustrating when you're almost finished with a route and it freezes and you have to start all over again.
