Activity Search doesn't find existing activities by keywords

I wanted to get more information about a low key trail running event so I did activity search by a closest city (that is a trail event that starts at a trailhead) and event name. Surprisingly I got back no results even though I know there must be some. To verify I went to my friend profile and found the actual last year event activity record there. From there I looked at segments and found more activities from the same date. Many of these activities had the exact event name but still no much.

I am sure that isn't the problem with location because I was getting pretty far away activities when I searched for a more general keyword.

  • So disappointed that this feature has disappeared. Being able to check out potential routes before going to visit another place was definitely one of the best features, Strava is much less useful without it.

  • So, is there an update to this.

Incredibly useful feature that without it certainly makes me re-think premium.

  • There is a workaround for races.  Lookup the results from a previous year.  Search on an athlete's name and then look at his or her activities the day of the race.

  • I can't believe this feature is gone.  Does mapmyride have it?  ridewgps?   Really not much use for Strava anymore.  Garmin records the same info strava does.. for free.

  • Please bring back full activity search, if you are someone in the military or peace keeper in a war zone just don't use Strava. It seems like common sense to me. Strava can you give an update about this?

  • The whole reason I signed up for premium was for the activity search.  Please bring it back.  Very frustrating.

  • Hi Elle, can you please provide an update on this with immediate effect. It's been over 4 months since you wrote:

We are reviewing features that were originally designed for athlete motivation and inspiration to ensure they cannot be compromised by people with bad intent. Read this letter to the Strava community

How long is this review going to take? Why does everyone who signed up to Premium, such as myself, have to suffer because of the actions of a few irresponsible American soldiers in Afghanistan? Can you please publicise an update to let your paying customers know what is going on. The lack of communication smacks of incompetence and a lack of customer care.
I/we look forward to hearing back from you.
    Regards,
    Jon

  • I'm going to see if they bring this back with the deadline being my renewal of premium. No activity search (as before) = no premium renewal.

  • Searching my activities bring doesn't bring activities of WORKOUT type.
Once I remove WORKOUT type, the activity if found.

Is it another feature you added?

  • Without this feature, the app is worthless to me. I am cancelling my Premium subscription.

  • What a pity we can't search activities anymore, it was clearly the most interesting feature of Strava.
Why is it the total blackout from strava team about it ?

  • Many issues:

    - searching by keyword+all activities returns 94 items

    - searching by no keyword+activity returnds 151 (while all the above activities have the aforementioned keyword in it)

    - searching by keyword+activity returns ZERO activities

this is really really weird and seems so easy to address, could you please update on it

  • Yes, searching for interesting runs, by location, then getting the associated GPX file so I could navigate using my watch was THE feature that made me pay for premium.

The use case - as some others have commented previously - is to investigate a run/race, not just one you've run before.

It would be great to bring this back. Any update from the "letter to the community" post?

  • First, searching on my own activities yields terrible results.   For instance, if I put in a search for the word "Torrey" on a Sport type of Hike, I get back 7 results starting in 2014 and ending in 2015.  Why isn't my hike from 1/15/18 being entitled "Torrey Pines to Blacks Beach to Salk during LOW TIDE" being returned???    I also tried searching for it with the keywords "Blacks" and "Pines" instead but neither of those searches returned this hike.    And yet it is there if I look through all of my hikes manually.   What is going on??  PLEASE FIX

Secondly, one of the most valuable things about Strava was so that others could search for my hikes and bike rides based on keywords, and so that I could search on others.   It was a great way to find routes for rides and hikes, and also to get an idea of how much time it would take to complete them.    PLEASE BRING THIS BACK.

  • I agree.  Searching you're own activities yields unimpressive results.  Searching Alpe only brings up one of my 3 rides with Alpe in the title.

  • Come on Strava! When is this issue going to be fixed? A WHOLE YEAR later and we still can’t search by keywords! You literally have to type out the whole title, and it still doesn’t work at times. Seriously! I can’t emphasize enough just how easy of a fix this is on a programming level, yet it takes you YEARS to fix these sorts of issues! Another example is syncing Apple Watch Activities to Strava! I mean if the developers of RunGap have done it, who you probably can’t even compare to a company like Strava Inc. then I am truly at a loss for words how Strava still hasn’t been able to do it after literally another YEAR! A YEAR!

For once stop focusing all your efforts on bringing out new, neat little features that most users don’t even use, and fix your existing features’ bugs as they are causing your community a lot of frustration! I am honestly fed up with Strava not listening to their community and the lack of engagement from their support staff.

  • Seriously! Simple keyword searches don't work!! Anyone frustrated with this issue needs to post on this thread to increase its visibility.

  • Hey Jon P.

A bunch of us have given up, canceled our premium membership, and have moved on to other sites that DO allow a full search.  Too bad, Strava had a good feature....

    Oh well.

  • Same conclusion for me : I have just canceled my Summit subscription.
I will be back as soon as Strava permit a full search in all public activities of all the members (and not only mine)

  • @Michael R.

Using ridewithgps.com    Not as file comprehensive as Strava, but getting better.  However, their "create a route" is excellent.

I agree with others in that I will come back to a Strava premium membership once they bring back the FULL activity search features.  Back to the early 2017 glory.

I suspect that the Government gave Strava a cease and desist letter due to the boneheads that didn't keep their activities private.

  • Sigh look like the key word search is still a problem!!!!  Strava, I love you but why couldn't you fix this?  I name some of my workouts with the same name so I can search and compare my program at a glance under My Activities.  For example, I *manually* counted 8 activities with the keyword "Chestnut" in it, but when I did a simple keyword search it returned only 3.  Also, the filter stopped working too!!  I would first filter for "Ride" and then "Workout", and only a subset of these rides would show up.  When I filter "Workout", bunch of "Weight Training" activities would show up.  I really want to sign up for Summit to have more analysis capabilities, but I am not doing so until all of these ACTIVITY SEARCH ISSUES ARE RESOLVED!  Please listen to us Strava!  This is such BASIC function for someone to use the app and the problems have been going on forever...  Makes me so sad and disappointed.

  • keyword search appears to be entirely broken. setting aside searching by other parameters, simply using basic keyword search no longer works.

  • Am adding my own experience of keyword search not working properly, in the hope that this thread will bring the issue to Strava's attention. Searching my own activities using one word that I know is in the activity title is only bringing up a random, limited selection of those that should be coming up. Like many others, I name my activities carefully so I can look back and compare them - but this just isn't fit for purpose at the moment. Please fix!

  • It is almost May 2019... The search and sort function in "My Activity" view is still broken!!!!!!  Strava, this is SO sad!  Can you please give us an update if you guys are fixing this issue??  Please prioritize fixing this problem!  How do you expect anyone to search for a key word or even just look at their races when it doesn't even do that?  Please update us on what's going on!
