Real runners manually hit the lap button

When recording runs with specific run intervals and rest intervals, I hit the lap button on my Garmin to record the two.  Unfortunately, Strava doesn't give me the data set in turn.  All I get is the entire run in one mile increments...that's not helpful at all.  That press of the lap button must be imported with the workout or analysis is absolutely pointless.  The Garmin Connect site shows those data points so I can take a look at the run intervals, check the times, count them, ensure the RIs were not too long, and watch for elevation changes while pushing hard.  This is huge and should be easy to implement...or your members will never cut the cord on using Garmin Connect.  Oh, save us from Nike killing the Apple Watch series 2 as well and get the native app deployed ASAP...make it the Strava Apple Watch and become the industry leader!!!

Manual laps created by a GPS device will display on the website under the Laps tab. However, the Strava mobile app does not currently display laps, for feedback see here

For users with a Fenix device:

Uploading a .FIT file to Strava will not display your laps. This is because the Fenix files are formatted differently and we haven't adapted the Strava upload system to read the new format. If you export the .TCX from Garmin connect or use a sync service such as Tapiriik then you should see lap data. Sorry for the inconvenience!

  • I am also having this problem, however when I look at other people's data they do have the manual laps, including my partner. The only thing we have different is that I have a fenix 2 opposed to a garmin 630

    > all fenix models concerned

    > the bug is identified, but unresolved.

    > no real plan to work in it...

    > don't hesitate to ask for prioritization to support team !!

  • @andrejs you're correct, the manual lap data that Martin brings to light will in fact show up when using the web-based version, but when viewing workouts using the Strava app, there's no way (at least none that I can find) to view manual laps/data associated with those laps.  Strava has a couple of instances such as this that come to mind, where the features of the app don't line up with those of the website (the other is evidenced at the start of this post: on the app, my typing out the @andrejs would populate as a direct call-out to your profile and you'd get a notification saying that I'd shouted your name, but obviously this isn't the case as I type on my computer now.  Oh, I guess they've also left off the ability to access this forum page from the app too, but there's a solid chance I just don't have the technological aptitude to figure out how to do it).

I think the real issue at hand is that Strava has these inconsistencies, and it feels like they're two completely separate companies with completely different development teams (...and this is probably the case).  I'm not a programmer and I have no idea what would go into making the two worlds of Strava combine forces and make a more seamless transition of features between the two platforms.  I haven't had the best of luck with their customer service crew, so I have doubts that anything will be done with this, but let's keep this wheel squeaking.

  • Hi Mathieu Sablier.
I've got the same issue with my Fenix2 and I would like to push your request but your link doesn't work. Could you post a link to your request once again please. Thanks

  • This is the ONLY thing preventing me from upgrading to Strava Premium. Why I don't see all of my laps (intervals for example - quarter mile, half mile) in the Strava app, but I see them in the Strava website and, of course, on the Garmin Connect mobil app. Strava is really missing the mark on this.

  • Yes, please make the laps from pressing the lap button on a Garmin visible on both the mobile app and the website prominently - i.e. don't display mile splits if someone has pressed the lap button and don't hide the real laps behind a laps tab on the website....

  • When I run a workout in my Garmin Fenix 5 the watch creates "manual" laps for each step. These laps show up in Garmin Connect, but not as laps in Strava. Is this a related problem?

This is a workout session with warmup (2 km) 8x1 minute intervals with 1 minute rest between them and then some wind-down running after (2 km):

The laps tab is completely missing on Strava!

However, to make things more weird. This tuesday, I ran a similar workout (just longer wind-down at the end) and the laps DID get imported:

    How come?

Oh, and for yesterdays workout, the laps were gone again.

  • This post is relatively old but I have the same issue with my Ambit watch (moves synced from the Suunto service). Any updates from the strava team on this?

  • it has nothing to do with the watch. Strava for some reason has dragged its feet implementing this despite it being a highly requested feature.

For now, I guess I'll continue to look in two apps for this info...

  • I agree that strava should have the feature of pausing when is to stop for recovery and begin a new lap. If anyone knows of a new app please let me know.
