Mountain Bike as separate activity type or tag

Please add mountain biking to the list of activities in the app because the cals vs speed are very different from road riding. Also a count down to workout start would be a good feature.

  • The leader boards are the most screwed up, no one on a road bike is taking my Kom on dirt, and Im not taking his on my mtb on pavement. But on the weekly leader boards his miles  and elevation and distance on pavement count the same as mine on dirt, even virtual rides count the same as my dirt rides, I can ride my ass off all week on dirt and barely get in 100 miles and someone will sit in his front room and do a vitual ride and do 500 miles, not exactly fair, not the same sport, fix the leader boards, separate the activity. I road bike also, I feel guilty doing a road ride and it counts on the mtb clubs i'm in leader boards, because i'm not doing the same sport, it to easy on pavement compared to dirt. It's like mtbers are second class citizens on strava.

  • dear MTB and Road cyclists,
we've been asking Strava to introduce MTB activities separately from road bikes for about 8 years.

Today, after receiving the email Michael Horvath & Mark Gainey from Happy New Year and how the stimuli and all the adventures of all of us are stimoles for them to improve Strava, I decided to post the request for this forum on Linkedin again.

    This is the link

Hopefully 2020 will be the right year to introduce this feature.

  • Come on Strava, please give us MTB category.  Screw the previous KOMs,  Trails and conditioons change daily in the UK!

  • Come on Strava, still nothing sorted. I have cancelled my Summit membership because of this issue and will use Garmin for my data now. You will lose out to other Apps

  • I didn’t quit my “Summit” membership over this particular issue. I quit because of a growing handful of issues which led me to believe Strava as a company has pivoted away from a focus on end users. I’ll stick with giving my money to companies who see me as the customer and not the product.

  • Time for the semi-annual baffled head-shake at why this still isn't a thing.

Newest frustration: Groups <-- They become all but useless when you have a mix of primarily MTB riders to primarily road riders. I mean it's fun to see John (not his real name) gallop to the top of the leaderboard with hundreds of miles per week... but I'm more impressed with Sally (is her real name) slamming down 75 hard-earned MTB miles.

I upped my paid subscription when you brought the chronological feed back (like I said I would -- even though it's still kinda broken), but I may have to cancel again.

  • Well, it's 2020.  This thread is over 7 years old.  They asked us to fill out a survey 3 years ago on how to create a new activity type for MTB, and still nothing.  And they have the nerve to get rid of leaderboards for non-paying members saying they've brought us tons of improvements this year?  MTBers have been asking for this one key improvement for countless years.  I've bought a membership in the past, hoping this would drive them to pay more attention to MTBers.  Nope.  Now they're taking features away?  One thing that bothered me in buying a membership was that many of the features you got as a subscriber was for roadies.  Simply put, Strava is for runners and roadies.  Everything else in an afterthought.  Sorry, but I'm out.  I'm not going to share my data with an app that doesn't give me back anything I want.

The question now is what app is going to replace Strava for MTBers?

For me it's going to be combo of Trailforks and Garmin for now, unless something better comes along.  Any other suggestion?

  • I agree. If someone from strava doesn’t give a definitive answer in 2 weeks, I’m not going to re subscribe either.

    Please don’t ignore us

  • Unfortunately the situation after 7 years of this request outlines its true strava nature: it is an application for riders and runners and not for MTB.

I won't be switching to the paid version either.
