  • Just so that you folks know, there is a way to manually stitch two GPX files together at this time. Simply upload the two (or more) parts to Strava then select the "Export GPX" option from the tools menu. In a text editor add the track-points from the second part to the end of the first part. Delete the two parts on Strava, and upload the merged GPX file.

If you have questions about this, you can reach out to our support team directly!

See screenshot for an illustration of merging the GPX code. Thanks!

  • Yes please,

Just completed the 82mile "Capital Ring" ride around London on Saturday and had to split into three sections due to 2 batteries dying on me (better luck with the third !).

Will try Elle's suggestion as I just need a simple record of the ride, not comparators / tables / segment analysis etc.

  • I agree.  Stopped with group on a 160 at 91kms to find Garmin had save as one ride completed with another 88.3km ride but Grandfondo 130 rejected (or not recorded)

  • Strava please add this feature!

I have been trying to merge two .FIT files together from a morning cycle today using the Garmin File Repair Tool.  I must be doing something wrong because despite successfully converting to .CSV, opening with Notepad and editing, then converting the file back to a .FIT file, when trying to upload the file to Strava, I was told that the file was empty :(

  • Yes this would be great. As a for instance, i have just done coast to coast over three days and wanted to see the ride stats for one big ride, but sadly, i have to publish the three individual rides which doesn't look quite as impressive nor give the overall stats - DAY one was murder, day 2 was fast and day three was mediocre but i would love to see stats for the overall ride.

  • Blooming Garmin keeps freezing and hence have rides in two parts. Also sometimes battery dies and start recording with iPhone.

Being able to combine two rides would seem and obvious and trivial facility for Strava to offer, possibly as a premium feature

After spending ages trying to mess around joining two files i came across this site.......What a legend is all i can say who ever he is. Just add the files you want joining and it will do it for you. Result.

  • Would love to see this combine feature.  My recording stopped mid-ride when I took a photo, happened twice so now I have 2 morning rides and an afternoon ride to combine to log my 1 ride.  Additionally, when the program stops and prompts for a Save Previous Activiy or Delet, a third option to 'Continue Activity/Recording" would be super helpful

  • I actually requested this feature early on, and have since realized that I can do it on my own and still achieve the desired outcome

a - Merging the rides (GPX Files) using Notepad is quite simple you may want to just have a go. it's a case of just amending the second Body of the GPX file into the last bit of the first File.

1 - Open the second file and select and copy everything from the first occurrence of this string <trkpt .... till the last occurrence of this string </trkpt>

2 - Open the file for the first half of the ride, scroll down till you find the last occurrence of this string: </trkpt> then on a new line paste what you have have copied from the above step. save the file and load it into Strava.

Doing the above will still count as a GPS'd ride and NOT Manual entry so you will still get the challenge that you set out to get.

It's not a big pain to go through so for now at least I am happy to do this for the rides I have issue capturing on one device :-)

  • Can I ask/add

Rather than just merging 2 files, allow the user to give 2 files, and trim each file start end point to be merged with the next. Allowing a user to stitch together a ride that might actually be more than 2 files.

  • Folks, hacking up GPX files is not a solution. I've found that the subsequent import back into strava gets elevation data wrong - turned a 9,000m vertical ride into a 20,000m one(!) - and lost all the power data. I think it's a poor show for Strava's support to be recommending this faulty hack.

  • Yes, hacking is not a good solution - there is always some data loss with GPX files in my experience. I imagine it is not a simple fix for Strava, but seems such an obvious feature.

  • Guys, don't bother with hacks and editors..... try   http://joewein.net/bike/gpxmerge/  ....worked like a breeze for me, it merged successfully two gpx files in a second with just two clicks...
