Complete a Loop Segment starting from any point

For those segments that are loops, athletes currently have to start and finish the segment at the same point as the original athlete to have their effort show up on the leader board.

I suggest the segment creator should have the ability to designate his/her segment as a loop that can be started and finished at any point along the loop as long as that athlete completes one circuit.

The applicability would be broad, but especially in running segments in cities that follow a similar path, but where athletes start at different places on the segment based on the athlete's home/work/point of origin.

  • +1 We really need a loop segment feature.

  • Just as an aside. As a loop has no defined start and finish some arrows or other direction marker would need adding to show the direction of travel on a map showing the loop. When a runner starts a loop their Start/ Finish point should show. This would allow runners/ riders to test out different locations and be able to refer back to them or compare with other finishers.

  • Yes to needing a loop segment feature.

Yes there are advantages to certain start points vs others but this would still be better than lots of segments for the same course.

  • I would also love the loop segment feature where you can start at any point within the loop.

  • I'm not going to read all the comments because I'm lazy, but I agree with the initial post.  I was about to suggest the same thing but I found someone else already did it.  Regarding those who are disputing that it should be the same effort from the same start point on the loop is silly.  If you care that much about getting the crown, then you need to do what's most advantageous for you to get the crown and you should be able to start anywhere.  To me, the playing field is still fair because if you can start anywhere, so can everyone else.  I guess until Strava builds this feature as an option, the alternative is to run a loop twice so you can see all the possible segments, then choose which one is best for you.  If none of the segments start where you want I guess you can create yet another additional loop segment that already has a loop segment.  But that's a lot of hassle and makes for a messy segment hunt when it could all be fixed with one loop segment that allows you to start anywhere.

  • Clearly too complicated or too much trouble for the Stravamati. It's been a pretty simple request and here for years now. Lack of response, focus is on areas I'm not interested in (social) so not renewing premium and am contemplating other tools for tracking.

  • Additionally a local land manager has user conflicts due to people aiming to improve their or beat other times. They've been unable to have their area and related segments removed and prevent new ones.

  • I'm only new to Strava. This feature would be excellent.
Like Gavin said... Come on Strava!

  • Six years and something so basic is still not available. Done. No more $ for Strava.

  • 6 years and no progress.
Ahh, the ignorance of my youth.
Maybe the new paid strava will feature this among their premium leaderboards options.

Seriously, would anyone from Strava like to address the challenges that implementation poses?

    Thanks,
    The OP

  • Sorry, this isn't going to happen. I am not advocating for Strava, but as a software engineer I think implementing this would be very complex and compute intensive - all to satisfy a small number of loop segments. There are a lot more low hanging fruits that Strava should tackle first before even considering this.

  • This would be a fantastic feature, computational power aside!
