Expand weight categories over 200lbs/95kg for Segment Filters

I am a paying customer. I am over 200lbs. (248lbs) I would like to see the weights above 200lbs segmented like you do for weights under 200lbs. Why discriminate and categorize us Clydes as all "above 200" when you categorize weight in 10-15lb segmetns for folks under 200....? One of the reasons I pay for Strava is so I can compare myself to others who weigh as much as me. Not 20 or 30 lbs less. I just want t he same features paying customers under 200bs get. Which I think is fair, don;t you?

  • It's not because it's hard to do. It's because somebody somewhere arbitrarily decided that it should be that way, presumably to keep the list selection small and tidy. Which is of course for all the reasons you all point out demotivating.

  • I am also a premium user and kindly demand this feature since I am over 300+. Hope you can integrate this feature soon (how hard could that be)?

  • Count my vote in!, being over 300 pounds this feature is pointless if you can not filter with more granularity. I am also a premium user.

  • YES YES YES!!!!!! I HAVE SLIMMED DOWN TO 275. I DONT THINK ITS FAIR TO COMPETE MYSELF WITH A 210# PERSON. THAT IS LIKE COMPARING A 200# PERSON WITH A 125 # PERSON. PLEAE ADD A 250# + CATEGORY AND A 225#-250# CATEGORY. THANKS.

  • As a rider coming down in weight, from 350lbs,riding with no one over 190lbs, things don't seem fair. Now at 290lbs, riding better, it still would be nice to have a weight class closer to what I am.

    THANK YOU, for developing STRAVA!!

  • Not sure if this is off topic, but I would like to see age crossed with weight for comparison purposes. As a 225lb 49 year old, I am quite different than a 225lb 30 year old or a 140 lb 49 year old.

  • I paid for Premium just to see this, but probably will not continue if I can only see 200lbs+.  I'm currently at 280lbs, a fairly new road rider, but continuing to climb ranks and beat my own PRs with every ride.  Of course, there's a huge difference between 200 and 280lbs.  A big part of my motivation is to be able to dive into my metrics and see my progress, hopefully as I drop weight classes.

It seems like this would be very easy to do.  Perhaps Strava is worried about people exposing their weight, but frankly, this is at the user's discretion, right?

  • This is weak product management Strava.  This is a no brainer add especially when you have the data and the logic to enable it easily. (Just expand your schema) After a some time off my bike, now back on regularly I don't really see the need to continue to pay for premium when you don't serve my needs as a user. I've been a big fan of Strava, but see no need to continue to pay you for a service that doesn't give me the same level of functional information.

  • STRAVA- Please listen to your paying customers. I am a premium member and I don't think I will continue without this being addressed. Please read all of the reviews and see for yourself......we all agree: Make a 225-250 weight category, and a 250-300 weight category, and a 300+ weight category. It is sincerely motivating to use this app, but if it is only partially useful to us clydesdales, then what is the point? Please take care of this.

  • @ellebellerina, please come back and provide Strava's position on this, please - it's been over a year now!

  • It's been a year and a half since this was asked for. Obviously quite a few people agree with this. It's disheartening to see no meaningful response from Strava. This should be a no-brainer. If they have good reasons why they actually wish not to do this, they could at least let us know what they are.

As it is, I've let my premium membership lapse, and I'm not inclined to renew it in the short to medium term. The bottom line is that I'm not currently seeing what value a premium membership brings me. That may change in the next few months, but for now that's my feeling on the matter. Improving the 200+ lb weight class situation would be actual value that would probably influence my decision to renew premium status. I guess we'll see.

Strava, would you please follow up with your user community on this? The ball's in your court.

  • As a paying customer I suggested this to the Strava team yesterday.   They gave me this link and told me to search the forums to see if any others are interested in additional weight classes.   Looks like they need to pay A LOT more attention to customer requests because there are many that have been requesting this for over a year!    This is something that is VERY SIMPLE to add and would take there web team all of about 1 minute to do.    I weight 235 lbs and just completed Deathride 2015.   I would like to compare myself to others that are closer to my weight and not just all those over 200+!

This change needs to be added immediately Strava!

    How difficult can this be?

Still waiting on this and the metric units issue to be sorted out before I rejoin as a paying member.

  • I would like to see

    215+

    230+

    260+

I agree that there are not as many heavier riders using strava, so the min and max for these classes would not show as many riders to compare against. Using only the 'min' weight allows all riders heavier to show up and keeps the group larger.   If you don't see many riders in your group, simply drop down to the next lower weight group.

  • So obviously Strava doesn't give a flip about doing this correct?

    My ten cents.

I am a big guy who got deeply into cycling 35 years ago to rehab an ACL injury, and I raced a LOT back then. It is highly motivating to be compared to your peers, and in cycling that has to do with 3 things - experience, weight, and age - IMHO.

I raced at 178lbs - that was my lowest and was almost impossible to maintain - I grow muscle fast (and fat), especially in my legs and back.

I am nowhere near 178lbs now, and I would like the option to be compared to my peers. Not a 25 yr old flyweight.

So yeah, I would like 2 additional weight categories. Why not? The data is there and quite honestly if you can encourage different sizes and ages of people in a sport where hauling butt is what it is all about, it makes the sport have more appeal and that is GOOD for everyone, don't you think? I sure do.

  • Strava, you should try adding just once more division to start:  225+  This will probably make 80% of the +200# people happy.

  • I would recommend the following added weight classes:
    200-220
    220-240
    240-260
    260+

If Strava added additional weight classes, I would sign up for Premium in a minute!!

  • Strava,  do  you even read these forums?? !     Could someone from the company please respond on this forum and explain the reason for NOT doing this?     The added weight classes have been requested for several years now and it would really help us heavier riders to compare ourselves with others that are close to the same weight.     Thanks!

    • THIS IS THE MOST UP TO DATE RESPONSE FROM STRAVA ABOUT THIS ISSUE

HOPEFULLY YOU WILL ALL READ THIS.

      Hi Eric,

Thanks for the message. I apologize for taking so long to get back to you, but I was waiting to meet with a Product Manager and an Engineer who are beginning work on redesigning segment leaderboards. I can't promise anything, but there is motivation from within the company to add more granularity to leaderboards, especially for weight and age classes. We're just starting work on this now. However, this sort of project is pretty massive in scope, as it touches most of the Strava infrastructure. I won't really have any updates for the next month or so at the earliest. Please know that I'm doing everything I can to add more age and weight classes to segment leaderboards!

Please feel free to reach out at anytime and please feel free to drop my name in a ticket if you'd like to speak with me directly.

      Cheers,
      Jeremy

  • Hi,

    I am a Fatty !

You guys do a great job - I love Strava!

If you do get around to providing more granularity with this, please don't for get the metric guys as well.

If you don't do this soon, it's no biggy. If it was a major issue for people then they would stop using the product :)

  • I agree they should add filters for larger weights adding incrementally to 300+  I would be even happier if the went to 325 plus.  but the point is that is is ridiculous to think that 200+ represents a good cutoff.  If you 6' 5" and weighted only 200 lbs you would be skin and bones.

  • Agreed, paying customer. I went from 300 to 250....doctor has advised me 200 is never going to happen (stupid skeletal structure)

Meet me halfway and give me 200-224, 225-249, 250-274, etc.
