Hide Start time of Activity to Followers

Attention to all those who exercise when others think that should be working!   Sometimes, I sneak out in the middle of the day - after I've done lots of work in the morning or accomplished a really big task.  But, my friends give me grief because they see activity start times in the middle of the day.  Consequently, I have ceased inviting others to follow me - all because Strava reveals my start time. I would love to expand my connections/followers, but I cannot.

So, I would like there to be an option on my profile to show/no show the time of the exercise to my followers. (it's on a variety of screens)

 - Note:  To those who think that hiding the exercise is the answer.  I do not want to hide my exercise, I want to do the opposite - I want to broadcast it - just not when I'm doing it!

  • Even with the ability to hide start times, since the Strava feed shows activities in chronological order couldn't anybody following a number of athletes just use the activities prior and subsequent to yours and use their time stamps to get your starting time within a range? Following a sufficient number of users with enough activities could narrow it down quite a bit.

  • I just searched for a way to turn off the time of day as well and this page came up.  Please Strava.  A simple feature to fix.  I don't need people misjudging me because of the time of day I can sometimes get out to train.  Has it been over a year since this was requested???

  • How long must we wait.  This is not a major feature request.  I am not a Premium Member, not sponging off of the free app.  Why can't this be addressed?

  • Thanks Giles Fisher although for some reason when you do edit the way you mention it changes / reduces the elevation ?

  • This is only made worse with the recent change to by default name activities things like "Lunch Ride". (I sync to Strava via Garmin Connect. I think the mobile apps might have been doing this for some time.)

  • Hi Elle,

Do you have any updates regarding the further enhanced privacy controls? I love your app, but again I would love to see further privacy settings added, and implementing Peter's suggestion would be much appreciated. Forget co-workers even, as sometimes you don't even want neighbours to know!

It's been 10 months since your last update so hoping that something is being done about this.

  • Check out http://privateride.azurewebsites.net/TCX . It modifies your TCX file automatically to the desired workout start time.

  • It is very useful feature to have an option to hide start time of activity to followers.

  • It's poor that this feature has still not been addressed. It seems a logical and reasonable request for many, and hearing that premium members are closing their accounts over it makes no business sense on Strava's part.

  • An update would be appreciated! I love your product and want to restart my premium membership, but won't without this feature.

  • Insane that this line of code can't be toggled from the website. I believe many 12 year olds could whip up the line of javascript to make this happen. I actually didn't realize it did show start times until I really looked at my rides on the website as it doesn't show in the mobile app.  Disappointing.

  • When is this feature going to be included?  This wait period for this is way too long.

  • Hi,

As with Peter's initial query/request, has there been any further development of this function? I too am in the same boat i.e. not wanting people to view my activity start times for various reasons e.g. house is vacant and workplace commentary!!

    Regards,

    Emmett

  • Closing in on 3 years, and the non-existing sense of urgency from the Strava representative is amazing.

This is a real privacy concern, especially for people who integrate their activities into daily transportation, like to and from work and other regularities.

This should be higher on your priority list than any of your other nifty projects, like "Training [Beta]" for instance.

I assume you are prioritising after what you believe will gain you the most paying customers. In that case I would be more worried about closing this issue before this thread is picked up in various media channels.

  • Hi,

I know I'm a bit late to the party here but was anything ever done about this? It would be so handy to have the option to hide activity start times and there's a lot of support for this. Surely this is an easy function to add Strava?? Come on and get your act together...

  • No joy yet and now Strava has gone one better (note the sarcasm), and put your start time on the activity feed on the mobile app. I will continue to use the app but will definitely not be renewing my premium membership. As stated before, this is a privacy and security issue, regardless of who follows you. At least give us users the option of whether we want to display a start time or not. This is not a difficult function to develop.

  • This is a must have feature , we need this to be implemented, hiding the time of activity start for my followers it's a must have, this way I don't need to hide an activity just hide the time of the day I did it

  • Hi

I wonder how many more people need to write here that this feature should be implemented until there is an appropriate reaction from Strava.

Please do something about it. Cannot be that difficult.
