For mobile Routes, Orient the map in the direction you're moving

The new routes feature is great now that it is view able from the iphone, but it would be really nice if the map rotated to the direction you are facing. I don't care about turn by turn directions, but using a directional, centered map sections of roads where you need to make a lot of turns would be very helpful. This would be great it I could open it occasionally while its mounted to my stem.

  • I'm pretty sure, that Strava don't care about basics - this tread started 5 years ago. They care more about summits because it is a money.

  • I hope they will do it soon. I use numerous maps before and all had this as standard future. I was so surprised that Strava did not offer this option.

  • It’s a feature that isn’t difficult to implement. I think that’s Strava option not to, for some reason that I don’t understand.

Please consider this request. Or you aren’t capable of?

    Thanks

  • I'm glad I found this thread. Having become a bit lost in France this week on a long ride, for me, I initially couldn't figure out exactly where I was until I realised that the map was upside down. I resorted to Google maps to put me right.

Now, here I am having been considering the upgrade to Summit today but this map issue has put me right off.

I will probably simply run Strava in the background from now on. Shame on the developers!!!

  • The lack of this, and the recent withdrawal of support for Relive, have made me and a number of my fellow peddalers turn to other solutions for a biking app.

Sorry Strava, you were great but you’ve lost it.
    If you snooze, you lose.

  • Hello Strava Team,

I am a summit Member, I left the Runtastic app to come to Strava and I am very sad about this functionality is not in Strava app.

I think it is a nice system when you don't know the area where you ride. I am sure you will have more users with those functions, many persons hesitate to ride without a guiding.

I don't know what is the tech is being in this function but could you study and give to us some road map?

  • I wanted this in 2016. It is still not there, so I will need to use Trailforks for the map, and run Strava in the background to capture my heart rate data and wheel sensor, as TrailForks doesn't do those things. Sad I have to run two apps.

  • North up is great for planning. Track up is a necessity for navigation. Not having a track up option is a dealbreaker for me.

  • So, Strava guys, what's the deal - 5 years of requests (read: pleadings) to orient the map route in the direction of travel and no response? It would be nice to have a Strava reply to all of us in this string. What say you?

  • Oke while waiting for Strava to get the basics right, can anyone recommend a good app to use while riding for navigation? I will still use Strava in the background but navigating with it is horrible, because of this very small feature. Please bump this up in your backlog, thanks :)

  • Hi Wouter, I was using RideWithGPS on my phone for couple of years. The navigation feature is not for free, but you won't find a better app out there. Now I am using a Garmin Edge device, but I am still with RideWithGPS to create routes with CUEs
