Settings to hide Zwift trainer rides in feed

Is it possible to hide all the Zwift rides within a Strava feed?  It feels like it's turning Strava into a video game.  There should be an available setting to hide Zwift/trainer rides out of the daily feed.

  • They are clearly not getting around to this so I just use uBlock Origin and add rules to get rid of the suggested athletes, zwift rides, etc.

Example filter (uses uBo ":has()", but looks like adblock plus has similar capabilities) to get rid of virtual activities - zwift in this case which has a icon-virtualride for the activity:

      strava.com##div.activity:has(span[class*="virtual"])

Hides any "activity" div elements that contain a span element with a class including the word "virtual".

  • I've voted the only way that I thought might gain any traction - I cancelled my premium membership which I've had since soon after I signed up in 2011.

    > By the way, Strava recently started allowing zwift to count towards challenges - *sigh*

Well, since Strava isn't commenting here, I guess that's the clearest answer we're going to get. Not only are the virtual rides not going away, looks like they're doubling down on legitimizing them. Faaaaaantastic. I guess the next step is when they decide to be helpful and filter out those pesky "outdoor" "real" rides for us.

  • Keep those comments coming...a few more and we will be on page 1 on the comments list for new feature requests. Somehow Strava needs to start reacting to this...

  • I canceled my premium a couple days ago since it's up for renewal and Strava has not made any movement on this.  I doubt they care as they figure they're making more off the Zwifters than us haters.

It would be so simple: all they have to do is give us the ability to either filter out certain types of ride or users, or do like Facebook does and allow us to "Snooze" a friend for 30 day blocks. Most of my Zwifter friends find there way back out into the real world once winter is over, and I'm happy to begin kudo-ing their IRL adventures again.

  • Anyone get the feeling we're talking to ourselves and not to Strava?

  • This has been open for years now and nothing has been done.
I too am going to revert to a free account.

  • Alas, I am one more voice complaining about this issue. I’ve been driven away from Strava in the winter time because everyone’s feed is just an avatar, video game ride. Kudos to those who can stomach riding inside but please please don’t believe we want to see a screenshot of cgi and a fake map of where you supposedly went. It’s killing Strava, sigh.

  • Strava is killed from 2 sides, by Zwift and also with e bike activitys.

  • Even factoring in vape breaks and 3 hours of looking at other stuff on the Internet, I’d estimate it would take a member of your tech staff just a morning’s work to set that up. Given I’ve been a paying/Summit member for 6 years, I’d say that work was already paid for.

  • It's really frustrating to me that I still have to scroll past indoor rides on my feed. I'm not the slightest bit interested in what folks are up to in their kitchen.

It seems quite clear to me that Strava are more interested in the zwift dollar than their paying Summit customers. I've been a Premium/Summit member since 2012. but I won't be renewing next time.

I recently had a big purge of who I was following and one of the reasons was to get rid of the serial zwifters.

It's only gonna take e.g. Komoot, to add a few extra features & I'm off. Others I've spoken to feel the same too.

  • Perhaps enforce a requirement that indoor trainer or Zwift sessions become private and do not clutter public feeds. In this way, indoor athletes can still track progress, etc., but the rest of us aren't subjected to the 'noise'.

  • Agree with Simon H above. Cooler weather is arriving in the northern hemisphere and already my feed is getting clogged with this crap. I pay Premium yearly to share outdoor cycling activities with other cyclists. I think Strava is brilliant – but this forced marketing aspect of your gameplan is undignified garbage. There should be an option to opt into seeing this Zwift-rides if it interests you. If, at best, we're getting a filter, please give it to us now before the army of plastic virtual cyclists butts take over my feed again for another winter!

  • The “Strava Helper” extension available for Firefox and Chrome has an option to remove Zwift activities from the Dashboard feed 🤷‍♂️

  • Any progress on this? I really don't want to see Zwift rides in my feed and it's a little aggressive to unfollow a friend just because he/she is logging them on Strava.

  • I agree with @Tom Payne. I've been unfollowing people I'm not close friends with, which is sort of a pity, but can't dump good friends just because they stuff my feed with dross. I would really like to hear an update from Strava Customer Support on this issue. Thanks!

  • What's really funny is when I set up my bike on a trainer with a speed/cadence sensor, the Strava app ignores the speed reading - strava only wants real speed from a GPS unit - but Zwift? Zwift counts to actual mileage and elevation numbers, which is a hoax.

If you're using Chrome, there are several extensions which can block Zwift stuff, right now my favorite is StravistiX as it offers a bunch of extra stuff. It also allows you to filter rides under a certain distance as well as runs under a certain distance. Pretty cool.

There's also Strava Feed Filter which does exactly that. Doesn't add much but trims out the crap that we don't want to see.

Another one, Strava Enhancement Suite, says that it gets zwift stuff out of the feed but it wasn't - I submitted an issue and the author said it was fixed but it still wasn't working for me. Since StravistiX gives me what I want I stopped using that one.

I did find a plugin for Firefox, but forget what it was, and if you're on another browser, you're on your own.

  • I've just logged onto Strava and thought to myself - WOW they have finally seen the light and released a fantastic update. But no, it was the StravistiX Chrome add-on which I'd installed a couple of days ago and forgotten about.

What a revelation. A great bit of software and what Strava should have done 18 months ago.

You should now seriously think about firing Miss Elle "we'll have to have a meeting and maybe schedule it in for Q4 2025" Anderson and hiring the author of StravistiX, Thomas "users have been screaming for this all year so lets get the f***ing thing done" Champagne, I think he'll give your Development Managers the kick up the jacksy they seem to need.

Or maybe you'll just carry on your own merry Zwift-licking way. Zwift isn't a bad bit of kit - I quite like it I just don't want to see it in my feeds. If I wanted to watch snowflakes playing video games I'd subscribe to XBox Live.

Warning from History : Once upon a time IBM were "big blue". Then they got complacent and along came Microsoft. Then Microsoft started to believe their own BS and along came Google! Treat your users like a pesky annoyance and all it will buy you a heap load of disloyalty when the next great cycling app comes along (it might already have happened if Garmin's offering wasn't so dire). And you're a gnats chuff away from that day.

  • I am probably yet another rider annoyed at Zwift taking over what was a great platform to track "true" cycling activities. Fully supporting the idea to create a stand alone cosmos for the Zwifties and separate their activities from those that were completed on real roads or dirt. Probably means for Strava team to double up on challeges , leaderboards, club activities, etc. but after all - this is the evolution of any app - it needs to re-invent itself regularly to the demand of its customers. I have started to look at RidewithGPS as an alternative app now as it continues to go deeper into ride analytics whereas Strava looks to be recreating a cyclist's facebook platform - which to me would be abandoning its core USP...

  • I only ever open Strava now to rename my rides or runs / upload a photo.  I don't use the friends activity feed at all since it's so full of virtual nonsense.

  • Thanks @Erik Popp - we've mentioned the various browser plugins earlier in this thread - unfortunately it's not a solution for the mobile apps, or the leader boards. More troubling is the apparent shift in focus of Strava generally. As the OP said, it's becoming like a video game. Some of us ride partly to escape the virtual world of our computers, phones etc. And we resent this intrusion.

  • I'm stunned this still hasn't been rectified. Obviously, there's some sort of corporate relationship with Zwift, Trainer Road etc to continue including virtual rides. How about some actual transparency Strava. Please explain why this simple feature to not include virtual rides in our feeds had not been implemented. It's been requested for some time now.
