Settings to hide Zwift trainer rides in feed

Is it possible to hide all the Zwift rides within a Strava feed?  It feels like it's turning Strava into a video game.  There should be an available setting to hide Zwift/trainer rides out of the daily feed.

  • I canceled my premium membership because of this and I'm constantly unfollowing users sharing plastic miles. I don't like this solution, but it's the only way to get rid of this virtual crap.

  • Simon - same here - I'd been paying premium since 2011 just because I loved Strava and what they were doing, but the lack of any movement on this made me cancel my premium sub as well.

  • @chris

All fine, thanks, but not even approaching a solution for the (most?) users who use the Strava App.   @Strava need to sort this nonsense out STILL

  • It seems as if they have a marketing agreement with Zwift so these activities are essentially ads.

  • Sure @Chris - didn't mean to sound ungrateful.  We just want Strava to sort this out properly.  It must be the simplest bit of development in the world  - I've even done them a simple design :-D

  • We're totally getting ignored, ive stopped uploading now, pointless, E bikes taking segments and my feed full of people riding indoors, no point, plenty of people i know also stopped using it

    STRAVA.... YOU F#@KED IT UP

  • No, you're wrong Chris. Strava is about money. And I guess Swift is paying a lot.

  • Eric - I said the same thing and told Support that's why I was cancelling. Pretty sure no f*s were given. On the upside, I didn't really use any of the premium features, was just glad to support them, and now I'm not missing it and I'm saving money. Plus, my uBlock filters take care of the cruft for me, so it's win win from my point of view.

  • Just adding my voice to the numerous complaints already. Get rid of simulated ride activity in the feed! We want to see real, outdoor riders. Not VR.

  • @ James. The point here is not if you like zwift or not. It's about how to hide it, if you don't want to see zwift activitys .

  • Please give us the option to filter zwift. I'm a member of several strava groups and ride in all weathers. Each time I check the groups someone has just appeared near the top after sitting at home on a turbo for a few hours. It might be good for fitness but it isn't real cycling and shouldn't be what Strava is about!

  • Please hurry up with this feature, I have absolutely no interest in seeing where people have fantasised about riding, I just want to see where people have actually ridden and achieved something. It's killing Strava for me - total nonsense to have virtual rides.

    "Hi Folks,
Appreciate you taking the time to comment and upvote. At this time, filters for the feed are not planned for the first half of 2019.
Any new information I receive, I'll post here."

it's now the second half of 2019.  Could you please let us know the latest?  Thanks.

  • This, should not be a difficult ask.

If Strava engineers are unable or corporate is unwilling to automagically limit all 'kitchen rides' to 'private', then provide us with the means to hide these bogus rides* from our individual feeds. At a minimum, automatically set these so-called rides to 'private' and force the user to blatantly post them as public.

If it doesn't have accurate GPS data, it doesn't belong.

  • Agreed about adding elevation particularly to stats... So not the same. Mileage too tbh, but i feel like the mileage is less of a cheat than the elevation ;) Anyway, not the answer you want but Srava Enhancement Suite has the option to remove rides without a map (aka turbo rides) not sure if that works for zwift though. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/strava-enhancement-suite/egelalffpmicecakegglddmhlbdiemlg?hl=en-GB

  • Thanks everyone, we have work in progress to prioritize certain activities in the Feed over others. I hope this is able to address some of the feedback here. When this new project is released, I'll let everyone know as we'd be interested to hear if there is any change regarding your experience with Zwift and other indoor rides in the Feed.

  • Please apply this indoor trainer filter soon.  It doesn't have to be perfect the first time.

  • Thanks Marcus. Unfortunately, you can't fix their apps...

@strava what is going on with this? If you are bound by a marketing agreement with zwift to treat trainer exercise like real rides, please say so! We'd like to know if you're willing to add the functionality we're suggesting or not.  Thanks!

  • This is the time of year that I really, really really want to have that filter in place. So many fake rides around London and imaginary places, I have to look for folks actually going outside and actually going places. I don't hate on Zwift, I just don't want to see it in my feed. It's been a year and it seems to be that Strava is pushing Zwift harder as the rides are now branded. This is a really concerning development that I, as a premium member, cannot prevent what amounts to a feed full of advertisements.

  • I'm seeing the 2017 videos being posted, and some folks are hitting some really impressive mileage and elevation numbers, but I can't help but think - what did they really ride last year? I wish I could not only filter someone's zwift rides out of my feed, but be able to see their actual total mileage/elevation vs the combined real/fake mileage/elevation.

  • Agree with @Chris Heerschap -  it is a complete hoax to count Zwift mileage as real milage. Total joke. I'm friends who have done less miles on their bike from me this year and are posting 1000+ miles more than me. It's ridiculous. Strava should split Zwift into a second virtual feed for people who care about such things.

  • I'd definitely like to be able to separate my Zwift km from my road km in my stats. I'm always going to want to upload my Zwift rides to Strava to keep a track of total time spent exercising but to be stuck with having to lump in virtual km with real km is annoying. Some of these Zwift activities are the hardest I've ever pushed on a bike so to discount them from my total training record wouldn't be right.

I also think that the feed should have the option of filtering out turbo/virtual activities. Real rides are much more interesting to check out than someone sweating away in the garage for an hour!! So come on Strava, give us that filter!

  • Simon, thanks for the morning chuckle. Elle Anderson is a real person, and a kick-ass pro cyclocross racer and has been on the podium in World Cup races.

I like Joe B's idea as well, have virtual rides as a completely separate activity type so it wouldn't be too hard to see someone's "real" mileage vs. their total. Being able to filter out virtual rides in the feed would probably be far, far easier to code, though.

  • I agree with most comments posted.  I'm close to my wits end regarding seeing all the zwift rides in my feed. This winter has seen much more zwift activity and it has become near impossible to determine who is actually completing rides outside.  If this does not end soon, I will end my premium membership and go to a basic plan.
