Settings to hide Zwift trainer rides in feed

Is it possible to hide all the Zwift rides within a Strava feed?  It feels like it's turning Strava into a video game.  There should be an available setting to hide Zwift/trainer rides out of the daily feed.

    Hi Folks,

Appreciate you taking the time to comment and upvote. At this time, filters for the feed are not planned for the first half of 2019.

Any new information I receive, I'll post here.

  • With you on this. Given a standard rollers/turbo session doesn't add to your mileage/altitude, I fail to see why pretending to on a video game should do either. I'm not naysaying Zwift - I think the concept is superb and I can't say I'm not tempted, but it is crowding out rides in my feed that are genuinely deserving of kudos, where friends have put two fingers up to the elements and gone out in horrendous conditions.

  • Very important. This is doing my nut in.  At a time where the world is up in arms about "mechanical doping" it seems fundamental to Strava that thi sis a GPS community based on MOVING ABOUT.

  • I ride my trainer a lot in the winter.  The sessions are difficult and intense and tedious.  They help me keep my edge when there's snow and ice and freezing temps outside my garage.  I upload these rides to Strava because I like to track my efforts, but I generally keep these toggled as "private" (sometimes I forget to check the box).  Trainer rides are boring for my followers to look at, and Zwift rides are as well.  I've seen the map of Watopia and London enough times to ride it with my eyes closed.  And the pictures all look the same...a dark video game screen grab.

Please let us filter these out.

  • Please put something in to filter these Zwift and other plastic miles out of my feed. I couldn't give a flying fig about people playing video games or p*ssing about in their garage. And as for the pathetic pictures - jeez.

  • +1, I also want a feature to hide or remove all 'virtual' rides from my feed.

  • Yes. This is ridiculous... Activity Feed and Club Leaderboards are being completely filled with Virtual Rides. I am all for people having the ability to track their virtual training rides, but having them counted 1:1 as real rides outside in the elements is not right.

Can Strava please create an entirety SEPARATE CATEGORY for VIRTUAL RIDES? Altitude and Mileage from Virtual Rides should not count toward a riders Yearly Stats, and the ability to hide them from the General Feed, Group Leaderboards, etc... is Important for maintaining an inspiring and meaningful platform. Thank You STRAVA!

  • I agree with everyone else and would love to remove Zwift rides from my feed.  Maybe just an option which doesn't have a real-life map associated with it.

  • Yes please. Currently blocking them via a Chrome extension but prefer Safari and would love to not see them in my preferred browser.

  • @Elle Yes - sure - always good to have broader discussions, of course, but this is fairly specific and something is definitely 'wrong' when Strava even has 'Leader Boards' for Virtual segments! People can config their trainers in any way they like and one of the HUGE STRENGTHS of Strava is that it is based on the real world and GPS. This virtual stuff is just rubbish!

  • As above, if not, it looks like I'll have to remove myself from Strava, as it has become a joke

  • More filtering on the Strava news feed would be great.  I think it is just as important as being able to filter by "Im Following", or each club you belong to.  Under each of those there should be a place where you can filter the type of activity, and even the ability to save your filtered "search" / set it as your default Feed option.

  • I'd like to add my support for a permanent filter setting to get these indoor training sessions out of my rides feed.

Zwift rides are not real rides.

Here in the North East of the United States winter has set in, and my feed is now cluttered with these virtual rides. I'd really like to filter so I only see the activity of the riders who go outside and genuinely ride their bikes.

@Strava Support - any plans to make this possible?

  • Zwift sessions are fine by me, I totally support people's shed-based personal development efforts. But I don't want my dashboard clogged by big images of phoney mapping, and made-up rendered images. Can I please see them as per a normal turbo/roller session please. Photos of real people suffering on real turbos trainers perfectly acceptable.

  • I COULD NOT AGREE MORE!!!! I live in Boulder, CO and want to see the people who are running and riding with me during the winter... not sitting in their basements cruising Watopia. This is plain ridiculous.

  • Have to agree. I understand the need to track them on a personal basis, but would prefer not to see them in the feed.

  • I want to add my voice to everyone above who can't stand this garbage in their Strava feed. I would like to filter it out in the Strava app. Sitting indoors pedaling is NOT riding!

  • Great feedback for us - I think this could fall under the broader discussion of more settings to filter the Activity Feed to only show the activities you're most interested.

  • I agree with the filter on the feed and would recommend the same on club leader boards.

  • Over two years worth of posts requesting this, and no action so far.  It's become obvious that Strava and Zwift have more in common than the orange color theme...there's apparently some quid pro quo going on between the two companies

I've stopped following several of my friends, which makes me sad.  Some have really gone over the edge and are riding trainers in the garage to complete some mythical "tour of Sufferlandria" even when the weather outside is plenty tolerable.  I'm not discounting the difficulty and worthiness of trainer rides, but this whole video game aspect has really taken it into the realm of "not cycling."  So long as Strava continues to let them rack up mileage and elevation, we're left to be frustrated with screenshots of their "race".

So I guess our alternative is to start discussing other platforms.  I'm liking RideWithGPS.com.  It's pretty easy to pull your Strava history into it,  And although it doesn't have the social component of Strava, it's got a lot of other nifty features.  It works a lot better than Strava for finding routes in unfamiliar areas.  And I also like the interface for creating and mapping routes better

Does anyone else have other suggestions for a Strava alternative?  I hate to walk away from this platform after using it for the past several years, but I've just about had it with their lack of transparency and inaction on this Zwift issue.

  • I would definitely agree the increasing popularity of Zwift is very annoying for the activity feeds. Probably more than anything it's not the nature of the activity but it's the useless maps and screenshot 'pictures' that come along with it that. They all look the same and they're all over the news feed. Allowing us to block pictures from zwift rides would be a big help.

  • I defenitly need this feature. My feed is spammed with video game "activities". It's a mess!

  • Please strava, give us at least the opportunity to have clean Strava clubs who don't need to bother about zwift. I would like to see real rides only on my Strava club, but people are still faking with indoor rides. And it's not only zwift that bothers me. I noticed there are more trainers who lead there indoor activitys to Strava and look like real rides. Seems to me Strava is killing their own spirit on witch the app was based, with all this virtual insanity. It's the same like all these e bikers are killing the Strava leaderboards with their electro shit. Seems to be that most of the cyclists are cheating and only a small amount of real cyclists is left. ....

  • It’s a bloody shame. I’ve been paying a lot for years and instead of listining to it’s customers, Strava is spoiling my timeline with more and more advertisments and I stil cannot choose what activities are shown. I do NOT want so see Zwift, I do not want to see running and swimming. I want to see real, outdoor bike activities. Therefor I’ve decided to stop my paid (“Summit”) account. As soon as this is made possible, I’m going to pay again.

  • Also agreed... not just on the mobile feed, but also via the API.

I was looking at implementing Strava on the 300 cycle sites I host (audience of over 275,000 cyclists per month), and basically I won't do it when the activities I'd be listing are not actual rides, outside, in the weather.

Audiences have no interest in turbo trainer sessions, though obviously the athlete wants to track all of the their training.

Let us identify turbo trainers and Zwift sessions and filter them out of the entire Strava product stack.

  • It would be nice to have the ability to display activities by type (using the same list you can select from when saving an activity) in my Activity Feed.

I'm really mostly only interested in bike activities.. more specifically *mountain* bike activities.. but that's a whole other topic. It would be very much appreciated if we had the ability to just see a list of activities we're interested in, virtual or real.

  • Elle , given your official comment was over 6 months ago, can we have an update please ?  Aside from the algorithmic feed causing me to miss some of my contacts rides I have had more than enough of these artificial rides with fake elevation clogging my feed. Using the iphone app to view others rides has become a waste of time because of the zwift feed dominance. ( Mind you the constant flicking over the feed to get beyond the zwift crap is bulking up my index finger ..! )

I ride to be outside, granted others are too soft and stay glued to their screens but I'm not interested in seeing their ride data and will never give a zwift ride any thought. So can I please respectfully request that I be given the option to remove this from my feed.
