Customize data shown on Live Segment screen for Edge 520

I would like to be able to see my Power and/or HR in addition to the time ahead/behind for Live Segments, rather than the map. If there's a segment I'm targeting to try for a PR or KOM, I already know where I'm going, I don't need the map. I'd like to know how hard I'm going so I can meter my effort to not blow up early, or even just be able to continue a workout if a Live Segment pops up without having to fiddle with buttons to get rid of the Live Segment screen. I'd like to just have the same options to customize that screen as I do for other screens.

Thanks

  • I want the same for my Edge 1000, to be able to customize the screen with the information I want.

  • I would also love to see this on my 520!

  • I agree wholeheartedly. It becomes difficult to pace yourself on a segment with no information. In particular if your pacing would be different than what the time ahead or behind would indicate.

  • I completely agree! Many others and I have submitted a request both to Starva and Garmin to show Strava Live Segment Data as any other metric; to be available as normal data fields, and for the UI (user Interface), to be categorized in that same data field area. For example, a field could show the very important, 'Time Ahead/ Behind,' and then the rest of your normal, and normally categorized information. While it's an important time saver for shorter routes, it's also safer, like for descents, when it's not prudent/ the best choice to toggle back. Of course, I think most people would like the count-down (turning this off or or on could be an option), but then that count-down would disappear when starting, going to your normal screen. Accordingly, at the end, the screen would auto-display the results, and then revert to the normal activity profile. : D I agree! I really hope they do this. I believe it is commonly requested for Garmin. Let's hope they do soon! Happy riding! : D

  • Fully agree, very frustrating to lose speed, cadence, and heart rate during live segment. Map is useless. Being able to add distance to go and time ahead/behind on data screen would solve this issue.

  • Hi all,

Has there been any progress on this? From what I experience with my updated Edge 520, the Strava screen is still the same, namely: the map, the time behind or in advance and the distance left on the segment.

    Am I missing something?

    Thanks!

  • Have you tried turning on the Auto Scroll feature on your Garmin?

    1. Select Menu > Settings > Activity Profiles.
    2. Select a profile.
    3. Select Auto Features > Auto Scroll.
    4. Select a display speed.

I like to have it set to "Fast".

I use it for Garmin Segments, hopefully it is the same for Strava Live Segments too. Effectively, when I start a Segment it starts auto-scrolling between my normal Garmin Display and the Segment Display every few seconds.  Hope this helps.

  • The live segment time should just be another field you can setup on any screen. It would be even better if this was a dynamic field that just pushed onto the bottom of your current screen with the two timing fields that are on the bottom of the current live segment screen

  • Yes, super annoying to lose all performance data.

  • you could have it, in a data screen of the activity profile.
select training/"time to go", "distance to go", it will automatically updates when you are on a strava segment,  (no need of lap buttom),

so you can have your power data, speed data, cadence, whathever data you want (minus the map). super awesome for koms... and yes, you have to be off the strava live segment.

  • Yes, I wasted hours already trying to solve this.  It is incredibly annoying that a map automatically loads and then takes up the entire screen.  I am 57 and cannot see the tiny numbers at the bottom which are not even the ones I need -- so frustrating.  Why not just show a basic data screen as it relates to the segment?  How hard is that?

  • Robert, they actually added the ability to do this in a firmware update a few months ago. You can't change the actual segment screen, but you can add the important information of Distance to go, and Time Ahead to a regular screen. I added a separate screen for segments with just that data and power so it's all large and easy to see. Super helpful.
