iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus screen compatibility

Hi,

Do you know when your app will be updated to support the new, larger screens on the iPhone and iPhone plus?

  • In he same boat here... I tried recording on session, it had good signal at start with HRM too. I checked background update was on but after the ride, there was no data at all... seems to me like something broke down... waiting for a fix.

  • Hi,

I'm not having any problems, simply asking when the app will be updated to support the new, larger screens on the iPhone and iPhone plus?

  • Hi everyone!  Looks like I misunderstood. We do have plans to update for the new screen sizes in a future release.  Unfortunately, I don't have a specific date for you at this time.  Again, sorry for the confusion!

  • I have to say I am quite disappointed by Strava this time. When the iPhone 5 was released, you were the first application to update for the M7, and the new size. I expected almost the same for the iPhone 6 Plus, screen size and barometer, but three months later, still nothing...

  • Sorry for the frustration folks! We plan to address screen compatibility in early 2015, so we appreciate your patience. We don't consider this a high priority fix as the app functions well with the iPhone 6, and the resolution of the app display is a more minor cosmetic fix.

  • Good morning,

The most recent Strava app for iOS update now supports the iPhone 6 and 6+ screen sizes. Enjoy!

  • An additional piece of information: You may see what looks like a sizing issue when viewing activity details, but this is the intended design:

  • Visual appearance is an important part of using the app, so if it looks like it has sizing issues then it does! If this is as you say intended design, then it was probably the wrong choice.  Using the correct font size on iPhone 6 and 6 plus phones is important, but so is making use of the entire screen size.  Visual changes should be as important as the technical ones in my opinion.

  • Thanks James, I should have clarified further -

I've spoken with the engineering team, and in fact their work to optimize the visual display for iPhone 6 and 6+ is not finished. We've succeeded in accomplishing the bulk of the optimization efforts but there is still work to do. Please understand that more work is slated to come soon.

  • It's really great that you are working on the iPhone 6 resolution update. But I find it kind'a strange that you release an update that's not finished yet. If i did that in my job, i'd properly be asked to roll it back and get back to my computer and finish what I started. What you say is "intended design", I see as lazyness. I know the graphs will be a challange to update, and the complete box will be a nightmare to redesign for different screen sizes - but just keeping it as before and signing it off as an intended decision is just cutting corners.

I hope that your designers/UX/programmers will spend the weekend finishing up their work, and release a final iPhone 6 update that's complete...shame on them for launching an unfinished product! Where is their pride for the software they create?

  • I have an iPhone 6 and cannot use the Strava app.

When I hit start, a message comes up "Background App Refresh Disabled - Strava cannot track your activity while background processes are disabled".

When I go into the Strava details in the Settings mode, it shows that the Background App is on, but the entire thing is displayed in grey (meaning I cannot access it).

Can you please tell me how to enable the background processes? Cheers

  • @Stephen Matters

The reason it's greyed out is because you've actually got Background App Refresh globally turned off.

    Go to Settings>General>Background App Refresh

Turn that on and it'll turn Strava on too. You can disable any other apps individually using the toggles under Background App Refresh (they'll eat battery otherwise!).

    Thanks,

    Ste.

  • Just a quick update - designs for an iPhone 6/6+ optimized activity view screen are finished, and work continues to get that finalized into the app. Thanks so much for your patience!

  • It says this the original question on this thread has been answered but that can't be right..... Am i right in reading that Strava are saying that the current way it looks on the iPhone 6+ is how it should look?

Or does it mean that work is still ongoing to put out a fully optimised version soon?

I'm really hoping its the latter as it currently looks appalling on the 6+ and if thats how it was intended then someone isn't doing their job properly.....

I think there has been somewhere in the region of 5 updates on the app store for Strava and not one has showed and optimisation for the larger screen.

Is it going to change or not?

  • if your phone is still under warranty and the crack in your screen is just a hairline (single line) crack, Apple may replace your screen for free, because in certain cases it considers hairline cracks (without any obvious sign of drop impact) to be indicative of defective glass.
