  • I've recently noticed that older photos loaded over year ago are no longer on my profile. Does Stava delete pictures after a while. Is there a way to get back those pictures.

If they get deleted that would defeat the purpose of uploading them at the first place. A photo is a life memory of a fun time captured and frozen forever. Or until the backup drive fails ;)

  • Many thanks for the 3 (at least) users who suggested Android emulation on a PC using BLUESTACKS ... will try that!

  • I've also noticed that a lot of photos have been removed from the profile page. They are still on the activity but is very frustrating to not see all the old photos on the profile page.

  • On Android, when I view other people's photos I can only see the 1st photo, the other photos never load successfully.

  • Why aren't the photos shown on map based on timestamp? I record my activities with Garmin devices and I don't want to enable Location on my phone just to geotag the photos.

The GPS track have timestamp and coordinates, the photos have timestamp which mean you can link the images to coordinates. Lightroom (photo editing software) have a function like this where you can upload a gpx track and it geotags the images based on timestamp.

  • @Richard - see my previous comment; you don't need to record with the Strava app to be able to attach photos! After you record and upload to Strava with another GPS device, simply open the Strava app on your phone, choose the activity, select edit and attach any photos you want from your phone's photo storage. They can be photos taken from anytime, anywhere and there is no time limit as to when you can attach photos to your activities. Hope that helps!

  • @Richard, thanks for clarifying. The current release pertains only to the Strava mobile apps (iOS/Android). Perhaps we will consider a photo feature from the Strava website in the future. At this time, there are no plans.

  • @Dave - sorry for the issues with the app hanging. We will investigate this report along with some other issues we've been hearing about with the 4.4 release.

  • Based on this reply by the moderator I am contemplating STOPPING my premium membership to Strava...perhaps if others decide to do the same then Strava will make this EASY update to their system...money talks, start losing customers and then perhaps they will make the change. But of course why try and make your customers happy?

  • +1 Jeremy. Exactly my issue, I brought it up to Elle (and another support person) a month or so ago, they have no good work around for us. The best I could get was "email the pictures to yourself, then save to Camera Roll". Or (as I figured out myself) add the pictures to an iCloud shared album, then save from the shared album, which then will show up in Camera Roll.. Jumping through hoops to get pictures in the stupid Camera Roll. This work flow is ridiculously bad UX.

I already canceled my recurring premium membership, when it comes around to renew, it will depend on if this work flow has been fixed. Being able to browse albums other than Camera Roll (how it was before) is not a big request.

Needless to say, all this is a non-issue if they just allowed photo uploads from the web...

  • Most troubling thing to me isn't that they haven't implemented such a simple and basic feature to their website, but that they show absolutely no respect and care to their users.  Why is it so hard to communicate with your users?  A little information on what is going on and why this feature isn't up and running would be better than complete silence.

  • I realize there has been some angst regarding this topic, but for those with cameras that would like to download to Strave there is a fairly simple alternative to be considered. For those not familiar, Mobi makes an SD card that allows most digital cameras to have a wifi connection with their phone. You can then download directly to your phone from your camera. There are some limitations with some cameras, but it works reasonably well with my Canon S100. I know this doesn't address the central request, but I've found it to be a reasonable workaround.

  • Adding one more voice to the "Please, may we have desktop-upload of photos?" that has been well presented in the 200+ requests above. Unlike some of the more, er, obnoxious posters, I won't be unsubscribing, nor shake my fist at the sky to denounce the perfidy of Strava - I very much enjoy the existing features and the constant improvement, and make full use of the community. Photo is not a Priority One feature, but i'm hoping you'll find a slot for it in one of your engineers' schedule, to make that community tighter yet.  Thanks!

  • iOS users with questions regarding photo upload to Strava and recent changes with albums and synced iCloud photos: I've just posted an update.

  • @Tine - that is correct about the required version of Android needed to use Strava app v4.4. I'm sorry that we are no longer able to support version 2.3.6! You can continue using the Strava app version you have now, but you won't be able to access the new features.

@John - you raise a great point. For Strava athletes without a smartphone running the latest version of the app, the photo options recently released are not available. Just a note - you do not need to record with the Strava app to be able to share photos. In fact, you could capture photos along your ride using any camera, and you would only have to transfer the photos to your phone to post them to a Strava activity through the Strava app. You could even upload a Garmin activity then go to the Strava app and add photos. Hope that helps clarify!

  • I just noticed this showed up in the app recently -- thank for the feature, Strava team! As for people stomping their feet indignantly about features that aren't there yet -- do you think software falls from the sky for free? Behave. (And yes, I would be happy to be able to upload to the website also)
