Android heart-rate monitoring

Is it possible to have live heart-rate monitoring on the Android app. Would be great to be able to keep tabs on anaerobic threshold during a workout

  • The premium app has this feature (together with current speed and cadence)

  • I use the  Wahoo Tickr monitor and run the free Wahoo app alongside the free Strava app. Start with both apps running. I start my run in Strava then toggle over to Wahoo to monitor my current heart rate for the duration then toggle back to Strava near the end of the run or whenever I need to check any other Strava content. Never had any clashes between the apps and traces compare well on both app results.

Samsung Ace 4 LTE  with no lock screen.

  • The Wahoo Tickr works for me in the free Strava.  My Garmin foot pod also works. Using the Android app on a Nexus 5X phone.

However, it does not look like Strava takes heart rate into consideration when computing calories, which are far higher than my Garmin 910XT shows!

BTW: The Strava IOS app does not show terrain and satellite views like the Android app does.  And the web app shows more detail than both phone apps, including mile splits and photos at the point on the trail that they were taken.  So don't just use the apps to view your data.

  • Heart rate, time and distance are measurable and finite. Calories is pure guesswork based on your weight, distance and elevation. Takes no account of metabolism. No surprise different apps calcu6late it very differently.

  • @Mr. Justice C. - Heart rate is often used to modify calories burned.  Higher heart rate means you are burning more calories.  It's not that complicated!

There are many formula's on the net.  Here is one:

  • Calorie "calculation" is an estimate based on excellent empirical data but cannot be definitive because everyone has different metabolism and fitness level and resting heart rate. Strava is not using all the available algorithns, I agree with you. So I ignore calorie figure

  • Strava calorie burn for my 4k run 375
    Using your link 390

Near enough but of no use unless I want to eat them back with xhocolate without guilt.

  • Just had an activity where Strava flatlined at 93bpm on the heart monitoring (using the Wahoo strap) but my Garmin 910XT didn't lose a beat.

    What happened, Strava???
