Ski Tracks sync with Strava

Since the Strava "Alpine Ski" setting is so limited (counts chairlift rides as climbs), it would be handy to have the app Ski Tracks sync with Strava.  Is this collaboration possible?

  • You might want to contact the folks at Ski Tracks about integrating with Strava.

  • I agree that this integration would awesome!  I just tried to export my Ski Track as a gpx file and upload it to Strava, but got the, "Improperly formatted data" error when trying to upload.

  • It's a real shame this doesn't work.Just tried to upload a Ski Tracks GPX file to Strava - it failed.

I just emailed Core Coders (who write Ski Tracks) - will let you know if I get a reply.

    Hi Matt,

Thank you for supporting Ski Tracks and taking the to contact us.

Unfortunately, we have no plans to connect to Strava directly in the near future. Our main concern (including Ski Resorts) is encouraging users skiing/boarding to race in segments in areas of the mountain not suitable for skiing at speed. We do not show a live speed display in Ski Tracks to try and discourage skiing at speed in public areas.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

    Kind Regards

    Lorraine

  • Export your GPX, then purify it with GPX Visualizer - from there you can upload without issue.

  • Gpx visualizer? What is that?

  • The easiest way to import a Ski Tracks file into Strava is to edit the GPX file and remove the time stamp in the metadata that Ski Tracks adds to the file.

Basically Strava doesn't like the format being in that time element of the metadata, so either edit it, or remove it altogether.

  • If you're using an iPhone, there's this handy app called "StraUpload" that takes care of this for you. You simply export the track from SkiTracks into StraUpload, and then it uploads it to Strava for you.

The "StraUpload" app isn't free, but at the time of writing this, is only $1.39 (USD).

  • Phil Everson - thanks, that app makes it stupid simple.

If it pruned out 'ascent mileage' it would be perfect,,,

  • I use the iOS app Slopes, which summarizes downhill distance, downhill vertical, and time downhill riding. The time skiing downhill is what I care to track for my fitness goals. It filters out lift rides and hanging out. I just manually enter this into Garmin Connect (I use Strava secondarily)

  • Current GFX export will upload to Strava. (At least as of 2 minutes ago.)
