Strava not showing up on Sony Smartwatch 3

I've just acquired a Sony Smartwatch 3 from a friend and was excited to try out Strava on it.

However, Strava doesnt show up on the watch as an available app.
Starting a run on my phone and nothing happens on the Watch ( I was expecting a display to pop up ).

In the 'Wear' option of Strava's settings, however, there is a 'Use Device GPS' option. I've checked and unchecked that and seen no change.
I've tried re-syncing, resetting, reinstalling, but no luck. I even opted into the beta programme after reading that it might help.

I'm just wondering if Strava no longer supports the SWR50, or Wear 1.5 devices, I can't find anything to say that it is supported, or not supported, I'd just like to know really.

I've seen posts around saying to install older Strava versions, but they're all on shady sites so I'd rather avoid that.

  • Strava on the 6th July sent an email out officially ending support after 19th July for Android Wear OS 1.5. This includes the Sony Smartwatch 3.

I've previously been able to download the application onto my Smartwatch 3 and following a recent reset of my smartwatch it took several days to appear on my watch again (even after clicking on the sync apps in the Wear OS phone app).

  • Hi Hassan, I've tried your suggestion and it worked, thank you!
Can I turn auto update back on, or will it update to the new version automatically?

  • Hi Ryville,

You'd have to leave auto update off for Strava in order for Hassan's method to work. Auto update would otherwise update to the new version.

  • My Strava recently updated, I think the auto update was switched back on. The following post will be relevant to people here. Strava are updating the server side software so some older versions of Strava on your phone/watch won't work. At the very least auto update may be switched on.

  • Reading into this more I think versions 51 to 54 will still work for now.

  • I just got v52.0.0 installed, the oldest version still currently supported by the strava api. It loads on my smartwatch 3 but doesn't find any GPS functionality. AFAIK, there is no way to get a smartwatch 3 to work with strava anymore.

Would be good of strava to post something public when device and/or OS support is discontinued.
