Geotag Information on the Web Interface Photo Upload

It looks like y'all have recently fixed things so that if a picture is uploaded to an activity from the mobile apps that the geotag information from those pictures will be used to show on the activity where the picture is taken.

(As I understand it, that feature was there for a while, then it didn't work, but now it seems to work again.)

It would be nice if pictures uploaded through the web interface (probably on a desktop computer where the app is not available) would similarly have their geotag information in the EXIF headers used if available to indicate where they were taken on the map.

As an example, my friend uploaded these pictures with the iPhone app and they show up on the map where they were taken --

Where my own pictures do have geotag information as well, but when I upload them through the web interface they are not given locations on the map --

  • Yes it can't be that difficult to do, I couldn't upload all my photos from the app as it kept crashing when showing me photo's taken during the activity. Used the web interface and not displayed along the route, which is a real shame on a long hike!

  • From the mobile app, it's very annoying to do. I have to try and retry 10 times before my picture appears on my activity! Please Strava use the EXIF headers of the photos uploaded via the web browser to add them on the map. I'm a developer. It's not so difficult to do if you already have to algorithm for the mobile app

  • Implement use of exif data to time sync photos. Ie use the exif time and date stamp instead of when created and modified timestamps. Problems fixed.

Presently it is using time modified data. So if I take a photo and later edit it, crop etc, then the photo is out of sync with the ride.

This also impact relive.cc and any other app which uses strava data as master.

  • Bumping the thread. I've just found out I can use a third-party app to geotag my digital camera photos using a .gpx file (which is great!), and was really looking forward to having my images properly mapped out. I take a lot of pictures on very long rides and having this feature really adds a lot. However, the fact that only phone pictures/stuff added via mobile app ends up on the map is head-scratch-inducing.

  • Mobile app upload also does NOT do this consistently. Strava, please fix this for both app and web picture uploads
