Beacon is not working

Yesterday and today my wife and I have found that Beacon isn't working. The app works and records, the app sends a text message but opening up the text says that there is no activity started. Yet the activity has started and records properly.


Beacon was working before that.

  • Same thing. Tried uninstalling, reinstalling the app, turning off the feature and back on... nothing.

  • It worked yesterday when my wife went out riding. I haven’t had her check if mine works yet, I’ll try tomorrow. Seems to be unreliable for us at the moment.

    When it works it’s great.

  • Hey Mark, I see that this comment in the iPhone app forum... perhaps I mistakenly type it there. Anyhow, I have a Samsung Galaxy J3 Eclipse, so this might not be relevant to you. However, what I did - and the beacon feature now works again for the last two months - is I first uninstalled Strava, powered the phone off, REMOVED THE BATTERY from the phone (this seemed to be the crucial missing step, for some reason), put the battery back in, reinstalled the app, and VOILA... beacon immediately came back.

  • I have the same issue... Occasionally works but more of than not my wife is seeing "no activity started" very frustrating as the reason I have it is for safety incase something happens to me when I'm out and about... I'm using android app.

  • Working again for now. Seems to be associated with keeping any battery saving programs turned off on both the sending and receiving devices. Makes no sense but it did the trick.

  • Resolved this issue today by uninstalling apps on both sending an receiving phones, then installing apps again. Other user's comment about battery save mode, previously had issues with Strava not tracking when using a power save mode setting.

  • I had the same issue for the past two weeks.  Uninstalling and reinstalling on the sending app, mine, did the trick for us.  Of course you have to re-enable the beacon service and re-add your safety contacts.  Andriod 8.0 on a Motorola Droid.

  • I was having the same issue and wanted to share what resolved the issue for me.  I noticed on the Strava app on my phone that at the bottom of the menu there was an option to ‘Join Summit’.  I thought that was odd since I was already a member of Summit.  I logged on to my PC and logged in to my Strava account and it showed I was a Summit member.  I could see my activity on both my phone and PC so it seemed my accounts were in sync.  Regardless, I logged out of my account on my phone and logged back in using my Google account (which is how I was logged in on my PC) and tested Beacon again and it worked.
