Stolen KOM Email & In App Notifications Not Working

I am not getting notifications when someone steals a KOM from me? How do we fix this?

This is bad for several reasons. First reason being that the primary essence of Strava is to compete on the Leaderboards which include competing for KOM's. If the emails aren't being sent to the person whom the KOM is stolen from then that person won't have the opportunity to defend their title because they never knew It was stripped of them in the first place. Additionally the new KOM holder is deprived of the gratification of their achievement as It goes completely unnoticed by the person It was stolen from. What a shame to do something great and your fellow competitor doesn't even have to opportunity to appreciate the effort and/or give congratulations.

The second primary reason this is bad that email notifications and notifications within the app aren't being delivered for stolen KOM's, is that when cars are going through and stealing all the KOM's and polluting the leaderboards without anyone knowing. Many times people will leave their strava running after a mountain bike ride or accidentally start their strava after getting into a car, and in the process steal & pollute hundreds of different segments. This pollution is the possible death and downfall of Strava if It gets too out of hand. Strava being a community policed platform, the majority of the policing falls on the hands of KOM holders to assess the efforts once they get notified of a stolen KOM , however these notifications aren't happening and cars polluting the leaderboards are going unnoticed and becoming more and more of a problem without stolen KOM emails/in-app notifications being delivered.

I read that emails for anything below 0% gradient will not deliver a notification and that certain notifications will not be delivered if It generates an undesirable experience.

The most recent set of emails I didn't receive was for one of the most prized climbs in our area a very steep climb and has many smaller segments for each sector of the climb. It amounts to almost 40 KOMs that were stolen that I didn't get a single notification for. I would be more than happy to received 40 emails & notifications.

I think that you need to change the restrictions on emails to allow for 100% of all KOM's and all segments to generated an "UH OH" KOM stolen notification/email. Every massive/popular climb has many many many overlapping segments....which as its stands now won't generate an email for any of the most popular climbs which is opposite of what was intended ( Im assuming to prevent spam).....and the exact thing would be the case when a car is actively using strava; many many many segments will be stolen in a row and then the faulty activity goes unnoticed.

Only way to fix this is to allow for 100% of all KOM's and all segments to generate an "UH OH" KOM stolen notification/email.

What are everyone's thoughts?

Does anyone have any quick fixes to start receiving emails again?

Agreed, it has been broken for a long time now.  Apparently some people just don't like receiving bad news!

  • Same issue over here.

Strava keeps copy-pasting the same "negative experience" canned PR in their response to tickets I submit. I find this patronizing and unhelpful.

I lost 4 CRs yesterday and did not receive any notification.

  • Yup.  I got the same boilerplate BS when I emailed them.  They don't even look into it.  Strava has bar none the worst customer support I've ever seen.

  • It's so bad that I won't be renewing my Summit membership when it runs out next month.

  • I've had the same problem for a long time. Occasionally I get a notification, but the majority I found out by using veloviewer and not until weeks after.

  • Hey Brett,

I am just getting started with the free version of VeloViewer.

My head is still spinning from cognitive overload. Not one to shy away from data, I can't seem to use this tool to answer the following question: "show me segments where my position dropped from first to not first - in, say, the last six months)".

Any chance you can point me in the right direction?

    Thanks,
    Alex
