Include Weather Conditions for Strava Activities

For the ridden route, pls include weather conditions for a segment when the riding took place

- Temperature

- wind direction

For example: In Australia, the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) makes the observations available for various areas. So when riding on a road that exists in an area covered by the BOM, then overlay the segments of the route with weather conditions at the time of the ride.

Similarly, you can overlay with a weather forecast for routes generated in My Routes.

Let me know if you want more info.

  • Include weather conditions, especially wind speed and direction.  Whenever I KOM I include wind speed and direction if it is significant.  Fair to share and good information for future rides on the same segment.

  • Yet another vote for weather data. The Nike+ app does a good job with that, and it's been useful to track performance, patterns, etc.

  • Come on Strava, we really need this feature!!!!

It would help for much more accurate breakdowns of rides when comparing.

  • I have done this at

    http://52.49.96.139/stravaweather/

It will plot a map with historical weather conditions for each segment in an activity. It is still in development though so it may be a little flaky :-)

  • ENDOMONDO, your main competition has done it for years for $19.95 a year!

  • Temperature is already included from the Garmin data.  Wind speeds vary every few minutes, it'd be a silly feature.  Seems like a feature that wouldn't benefit anything but provide useless data.

  • And if you want to show off how bad the weather was and how awesome you are for riding in it, take some photos :)

  • For all you Jerusalem who think it's silly, thanks for the support!

I guess I will go back to Endomondo who are light years ahead for a third of the cost.

I just don't get it, why won't Strava add this simple feature?

    It's incomplete without it.

  • My previous post had a weird auto spell. I didn't type Jerusalem. I think my Google phone is anti-semetic!

    Sorry.

I meant 'jerks', fully all inclusive with no slurs intended except for my point.

  • +1.   I could really use wind direction and temperature to determine the relative effort of my past rides - many weather sites have APIs - cmon' Strava already (please).

  • +1 From me as well..

I recently started using swimming so have started using Garmin Connect.. Astonished that Connect provides weather data but Strava does not..

A simple weather range (min/max temp, humidity, short description etc.) for the duration of the activity would be really useful.

  • Yep, this would be excellent. I noticed garminconnect has wind stats, so it must be possible. Having said that it's not very accurate although it's better than nothing.

  • STAVA ISN'T GOING TO DO THIS. ITS BEEN REQUESTED FOR YEARS. THIS THREAD IS USELESS.
GET ENOMONDO FOR 1/3 COST. FULL WEATHER INCLUDED.
    STRAVA WON'T EVEN COMMENT.

I had a look at Endomondo, thought it was meh, very bare bones. Sure I would like the weather data but the site doesn't offer much. Also, there's plenty of other suggestions in this discussion for many other sites that have the weather data and attempt to do much more with it. Can't see why you are so vocal about Endomondo?

  • Adding wind speed and direction of it would be awesome.

Right now strava is incomplete and KOM's mean nothing except who caught the most wind and utilized it.

If you ride with a tailwind of 3-8 MPH and do well it really means nothing when another rider does than same segment with a tailwind great than 25 MPH. One is normal and one isn't.

I just don't think someone has personal integrity or good ethics if they are riding in storm force winds thinking they are a true KOM. It would be nice to have some feature that would highlight or star rides where wind was over a set number. This would give us a tool when someone says hey I got the KOM and you see they had a gale force wind at their back.

Have to take KOMs with a grain of salt because a lot of them the rider couldn't do it without wind assistance.

  • Yeah. This would be great for me mostly to brag about the cold weather I commute in. :) I will echo another users mention of Day One app which automatically includes weather (and music playing too).
