Heart Rate Announcements/Feedback during recording (mobile)

Dear STRAVA decision maker

In the past I've used a  Polar watch that was set to my Low & High heart rate zones (by setting my age), then during any activity (run/bike ride) I got announcement/warning when I was below/above these values.
As you've already have the distance Audio announcement I'd like to suggest you אם add
1. Announcement of the heart rate value together with the regular pace announcement that available today.
2. Warning announcement when the runner exceed this range ( below/above) as by using an old Polar watch.

Thank you very much for this great App & Best regards
Itay

  • I agree with you regarding the need for hear rate audio announcement during a bike ride as it is not practical to use cell phone as a true cycling computer due to difficulty of seeing in bright light and battery drain.  I did write the bellow in another thread:

It would be great if Strava allows for real time audio feedback for heart rate.  At this time I have to use a competitor app, Runtastics, just to get real time audio feedback of my heart rate at a user configurable time interval.  The Strava app is great.  But the lack of this feature is a setback which forces users to use competitive products.

  • I agree with this... not only would it be great to have heart rate information, but even allow us to decide which announcements we'd like to hear. For each type of activity (cycling/running/walking/etc), people like to hear different statistics.

  • I agree. I'm also now looking to use a different app that can provide me with this information.

  • I'd like to have the heartrate (live and/or average) announcements with the other announcements (every 0,5 or 1,0 km)

  • I agree with Steve, just add a menu so we can decide which announcements we want to heat.  I thing it is pretty easy to add this feature to your mobile app.

  • I found a great app that is a full featured cycling computer rivaling Garmin Edge 510.  It provides audio feedback and uploads directly to Strava. I'm now using this app instead of Strava during my ride..  It is called IpBike.

  • Heart rate announcements would be a fantastic feature.  I have been using strava for a while now and think it is excellent.  I have however recently purchased a heart rate monitor (zepher for android) and am being forced to look at the competition such as runtastic or the app mentioned above.  I am at present not a premium user however if heart rate announcements were provided allowing zonal training then I would definitely subscribe.

I would love to see a feature that allows me to set my Low & High heart rate zones and which provides announcement/warning(s) when below/above these values.

Im aware that there are many more people looking for this support and without it people are changing to other apps could you tell me if this will be suported or should I consider other apps.

    Please email back.

    Thanks.

  • +1 for the audio feedback for heart rate zones or just the heart rate.  I love strava but having to use sportstracker pro for that feature. please add.

  • +1  For the moment, I'm using the Wahoo Fitness app which has a ridiculous amount of configurability for every audio announcement you can imagine.  Then after my run/ride is complete, the Wahoo app can upload the ride to Strava.  I'd rather just use the Strava app but it needs more audio options.  Another cool feature of Wahoo is a configurable count down to give you time to stow your phone after starting your run/ride before you're actually "on the clock".

  • +1 for heart rate announcements on audio. This would help keeping the HR in a specific zone without having to remove my phone from my armband to check

  • Any updates from strava on whether this is a planned feature or should I look at other running applications to switch to?

  • Complete agreement.

I would love to have audio announcements configurable much like Wahoo Fitness.  The heart rate, pace, distance, speed, etc options are highly desired in Strava.  I prefer Strava to all other applications, and am looknig forward to future improvements (like the recent upload to My Fitness Pal - ace work!)

  • +1 from me for audible hr announcements. Most of the time I run in almost complete darkness, so looking at my iPhone's bright screen just to get my hr means my eyes have to re-adjust every time. I love the app, and will upgrade to Strava Premium as soon as they include audible hr announcements.

  • +1 to add heart rate zone audio feedback (so that it's not even necessary to check the device display)

  • Yes, me too.  It's a fundamental requirement for training by heart rate, while it's nice to see heart rate data post exercise it isn't really any use while out there.  I too would pay for premium membership to get this functionality...  yes to audible alerts but also with a bit of vibration please!!

  • Agree that heart rate audio feedback would be great. Both at regular intervals and when getting over or under thresholds. Maybe you could base the feedback on the suffer score somehow also?

  • can only presume mapmyride has a patent on this. they've had it for years. their audio announcements give you total control of what you hear.

  • +1 I just got a HR monitor and was shocked Strava didn't include it in the audio cues. Tried it one Runkeeper and was amazed at how customizable the audio cues were (pick and choose what audio cues you hear including HR)

  • PLEASE add either an Audio announcement AND an optional Buzzer activation- potentially a double pulse for too low and a triple for too high. That way if you are listening to music there is less interruption. Sometimes I could see this being preferable over the audio announce.

    thanks,

  • This is possible with the following apps: wahoo fitness, runkeeper, mapmyride and likely others I'm not aware of.

I just purchased the 1-year premium package in order to more accurately set my heart rate training zones and was unpleasantly surprised audio announcements during training are not available. Please fix this asap..

  • I took advantage of the premium version's free trial recently, for some reason (maybe another app I tried out a while ago?) I thought that heart rate zone alerts would be available to premium users, but I could not find the feature and was surprised to find that the feature has not made its way into Strava (yet).

Apart from the fact that many training programmes feature training based on the simple principle of doing certain activities for certain times within certain heart rate zones, I have found myself really needing such a feature, due to being diagnosed with a medical condition. So when using Strava, I need to constantly check my heart rate on-screen to ensure I'm in the "safe zone", as prescribed by my doctor. Audio queues would have been so helpful!

  • Currently as all my friends use strava, I am using mapmyrun to record due to the lack of this feature in strava and then importing them to strava. Please add this! It should simply ask which data to be updated on.
