Enter Elevation data for a Manual Activity entry

I run on the treadmill and I typically run on an incline. I like to record my ascent for week, it wold be nice to add the miles on the treadmill to the total.

This request has been completed. When adding a manual entry from the Strava website (not yet on mobile) you can enter a value for elevation gain and it will count towards your elevation stats.

  • I would also love to see this feature.

  • Yes. Me too. Recently bluetooth failed on a wahoo training ride on the bike. I had to create a track on my mapping software to find out the distance and it also gave me the amount of climb. To be able to upload the climb would be good.  Easy to add?

  • Ditto for cycling :

One easy enhancement would be to add elevation as one of the metrics that can be manually input.
I occasionally go for a ride without (forget) my Garmin on courses that I ride frequently and know the net elevation gain. It would be great to capture the elevation along with the milage, date, etc. with a manual entry

  • Manual elevation gain would be very useful when you dont record your ride however rode with someone who is.

I have been entering the same data for distance and time as the person whom recorded the ride however have no way to enter elevation to compare that with my own rides.

  • ADD ELEVATION TO "MANUAL" UPLOAD!  Jeez, what's up, Strava...?  This is such a no-brainer!... why do you even need us to suggest this enhancement again and again?!  GO AHEAD: spend $500.00 and 10 hours and simply add it in, so we can continue to think you care about your USER BASE...!  :-)

  • I too would love to enter elevation data. As a new user i could not find any way to upload data from other apps without paying for an upgrade or purchasing a 3rd party app, as a result entered data manually. I was not given the option to enter elevation??? Would be a good idea for me, or more simple ways to import date from other systems?

  • I need this for cycling activities when I either forget my GPS device or have a GPS malfunction.  This should be an option for all manual activities.

  • I had to add... even Garmin Connect can do this!

  • iPhone GPS has been worthless lately.  I've had to add runs/rides manually EVERYDAY!  Elevation and Add my routes to manual entry would be sooo great and helpful.

  • Would love this feature, but I'm pretty sure that this is subject to the approval of Garmin/Timex/Soleus. For me as a Windows Phone user (and thus no access to an official Strava app), the lack of this feature is one of the main reasons that make me want to buy one of the GPS devices. And I guess the same is true for iOS/Android users without a Strava supported GPS device that don't want to run the app on every ride. So I suppose Strava won't add this feature since it could possibly keep people from buying their partner's products.

  • This is essential. Just went on a trip with a friend who recorded the GPS. 3k of vert today and I can't add it anywhere, so now my weekly gain is way off.

  • yes, it seems like it would be a simple fix for Strava to allow manual entry of elevation gained.  And while they are at it, total time and moving time.  There are times when your GPS fails or you don't bring it or your phone but you know the numbers because of a buddy's GPS or the known figures over a race course.  I would like to my elevation included for tracking and training purposes.  I just entered an 89 mile event, but according to Strava it was on a mirror flat course (zero elevation gain).

  • I am a PowerTap user, do not have (or want) GPS, and do not want to map where I've been riding (because it's nobody's business), so I would also like to be able to manually enter elevation gain on rides logged here.

  • I agree  Add elevation gain.  My Garmin konked out and I had a big climbing day (3 of my usual climbs)  I'd like to record.

  • I would be considering the pro version if it wasn't for the lack of this extremely basic feature... Elevation loss should be able to be entered too and listed outright in the overview.

  • This is proving to be another spin on 'no pain, no gain'... Please add the ability to manual input elevation gain. Cheers.

  • The computer interface to my computer died but I know the elevation gain, average power, HR, etc.  It would be great if you could enter these manually as well as time and distance.

  • Went on an epic (for me) ride today and my GPS malfunctioned when i tried to upload.  The GPS lost the data, but I know the map, miles were 125.2 and the elevation was 12,044.  I remember several other factors as well.  This has been a request for nearly 6 months, why hasn't it been added?

  • Agree, why hasn't this been added?  I too had a GPS malfunction where my Garmin watch seems to have deleted the GPS points for the first 22 miles of my run yesterday, but it still shows all the totals.  To me, elevation gained is just as important as distance run.  This is enough of a flaw in the Strava website that I will not be renewing my premium membership if it isn't fixed soon.

  • Agree, this would be very useful, not sure why this wouldn't be a quick fix. I normally use my iPhone GPS to track my runs and hikes, but on longer runs and hikes that take several hours I drain the batteries. It would be beneficial to my stats if I could add in elevation for trails that I run/hike. Please make this addition or at least give us a reason why it hasn't been added. Cheers

  • Yes! I need this. I watch my weekly elevation gain over my mileage. Sometimes I forget my watch, or maybe my run is too long for my watch. DO IT! DO IT! DO IT!

  • I would also like to be able to add elevation. I just started to really use Strava for cycling in the last month and want to add the rest of this year's rides without looking like I don't climb (Which I do!)

  • The whole point to me of the manual function is to allow data entry when you have a malfunction. I have the route and data on Garmin Connect but no longer on my Garmin so cannot sync the activity. This leaves you with manual entry which is very limited in terms of input fields. Is there a way to export data from Garmin connect for specific activities ?

  • I'm beginning to wonder if Strava is just a front for the NSA (or some other three-letter government agency) that exists for the sole purpose of getting non-drivers to volunteer tracking data.

  • +1. If you allow adding manual miles, no reason to not allow elevation too.

  • I agree. Adding manual elevation for running would be helpful. Sometimes when I run trails I don't like wearing a watch or carrying a phone, but I do like to keep track of my overall elevation gain.
