Support running dynamics from Wahoo Tickr Run on Strava

The Wahoo Tickr Run hartrate belt has a internal accelerometer and with that is able to record some running kinematics such as step rate, ground contact time and possibly more. It would be great if Strava is able to show this information together with speed (recorded by GPS) and hartrate

    Hi everyone,

I am under the impression that run cadence from the Tickr works, at least for iOS. Is anyone on this thread unable to get run cadence recorded with the Strava app?

As for the other run dynamics, I'm not aware of any plans to add them though it's up for discussion and we appreciate the feedback.

  • I agree. TomTom sportwatches (and probably other sport-devices too), and almost every smartphone have built-in accelerometers. I know TomTom sportwatches calculate strides (step rate) for running and strokes for swimming. It is comparable with the cadence for riding. the number of strides/cadence/strokes are important if you want to improve your technique.

Please make it possible to show this information

  • Oddly, when you configure the Tickr as an external device under "footpod" (and "heart rate"), the steps per minute displays.  So why steps aren't recorded by the app?

More > Settings > External devices > Manage sensors > Footpod

    iPhone 6, Bluetooth LE, Tickr.

Alternative is to use the TICKR app and upload manually to Strava.

  • if you record with the wahoo app, and import to strava, the cadence will come over. I would love to see running analytics in strava to review later!

  • I've just bought a tirckr run but since the foot-pod/cadence isn't supported on Android I recorded the run in the Wahoo app and uploaded it to Strava, problem is it's doubled my cadence and I dont mean counting both feet.

    How can I fix this?

  • I got a Wahoo Tickr X yesterday. Though Strava for iOS recognized the "Speed and Cadence sensor", "foot pod sensor" as well as "Heart rate sensor", the final activity I synced and reviewed on Strava desktop show me only the heart rate curve, and the cadence curve is missing.

If I record activity using Wahoo Fitness for iOS and then share to Strava, the activity on Strava desktop will show the cadence curve correctly.

  • plus 1 from me, too. I would like the detailed info for cadence etc to be recordable by Strava directly.

  • I agree. Would be great if oscillation and ground contact time are supported.

  • Hi Erik,

It's been over 2 years since your post requesting that Strava consider supporting the more advanced features of their main biometric device. Have you received any follow up from the company?

    Thanks,
    Eric

  • Hi Erik, all,

I haven't anything from Strava about subject ever since. Apparently their focus has gone out to other features and requests. It does fit with the fun-focus Strava has, rather than being a detailed training review tool.

By the way, I switched to using Stryd's power meter for running in combination with my Suunto Ambit 3. this works perfect and gives good insights through Stryd's power center (website)

  • I would like to see the smoothness and oscilation as well. It would be nice to see it as an average per lap as well. Makes it possible to analyse the difference at various speeds. Is there another possibility to do that in another app?

  • The cadence is still doubled. Can you add a "(wahoo_cadence_data)/2" into the script, please?

  • Well it's 15 September 2017 and a number of us found the Apple Watch with LTE the answer to our prayers for a single wearable product to run with, listen to music and make emergency calls so we ordered one.

Less clear is who is going to make a comprehensive standalone watch app with the same running dynamics as Garmin give you.

I also ordered a Tickr X but I am less hopeful of how I am going to get any data out of it in a convenient form. All apps I have looked at are sadly lacking. I hope there's a race going on behind the scenes to put this right.

  • I've just gone for my first run with the TICKR RUN and Strava... and... got diddly squat - no HR, no cadence, nuthin.

The device was paired - showing data in IOS health app, and Strava showed it as an active sensor (footpod + HR)... and there was a cadence & HR screen on the screen while I was running. But... no actual data - 0 HR and 0 cadence.

won't be overly thrilled if I have to use "yet another fitness app" to use the damn thing.

  • I have exactly the same issue of doubled cadence when importing Wahoo records to Strava... It would be really good to  see that sorted... and possibly a simple fix as above?

Also, Strava supporting the other metrics that Wahoo provides such as ground contact time and vertical oscillation would give the ability to use the Tickr X directly with the Stava app rather than going via Wahoo.

  • OK finally got it working. Basically you have to do the run in the Wahoo fitness app, then sync it to strava. You get the cadence then, but you don't get the other stuff (oscillation etc etc etc). would be nice to get this. I did have trouble getting the Wahoo app to actually register HR & cadence initially, it seems like it takes a really long time after it's identified the TICKR RUN (as in minutes). But finally got there... curious what the running dynamics have to say now and what it all means...

  • Hi Chris Hermann & Roger Attard,

Did you guys get the Wahoo Tickr to work with the strava app directly or do you always have to go through the Wahoo app to get cadence and more advanced metrics?  Does it ever move over to Strava?

  • I can only get mine to work with the app when running then it down loads to strava

  • I've got the same problem bit with my wahoo kickr, using the wahoo fitness app

The wahoo fitness app is free but the amount of additional data it captures is great such as wattage. Surprisingly when synced Strava is not capturing the wattage data from Wahoo fitness app. Im thinking Strava are trying to commercialise each data set that comes from from each IoT device or even other apps, which would make sense commercially but also really dissapointing given I actually pay to use strava
