The ability to contact the creator of a segment

There are starting to be a LOT of segments out there.  Many segments are in desperate need of being modified somehow.  Some are poor segments due to the many errors people can make when creating them.  Some are automatically created by Strava and the individual with authority to modify it doesn't even know that he can do so.  In any case, it would be helpful to be able to get a message to the individual who can modify a segment in order to suggest a modification or deletion.  This could remain anonymous for both parties.

  • Folks at Strava.....2 year old request still valid. Any progress?

This is a great idea. Just have a contact button that send anonymous request to segment creator. Only trouble is potential spamming. Maybe give the segment creator the option to report the request. That would work.

  • I think it's a great idea, also in my favorite spots there are many segment with start and end point incorrect to get a good timing, I would like to contact the creators of that segments to discuss togheter with the users the correct start and end point.

Strava staff, can we have a feedback about this idea ???

  • I would also like to be able to do this. Lots of segments that could be improved or renamed to fit the actual trail. Also, people keep making segment on trails that shouldn't be publicized because they are on private property. The landowners are okay with people riding there but might not want it advertised on the web.

  • I'd like to upvote this for the following reasons:

    • to get naming rationalized in a trail system. Too many segments with weird names that are actually a trail
    • segment follows previous trail route, but Strava doesn't realize that the trail has been modified and the old route is shorter
    • maybe get rid of all those 15s segments that are meaningless?

  • Some one has created this segment "I hate my wife" https://www.strava.com/segments/12658584 . I want to flag this segment for not an acceptable name, I want to opt out of this segment even when I go thru it, and configure it in such a way, that it never shows up.

Please let us contact Creator anonymously.
Some segments are great but they need a little edit

  • Otherwise, add possiiblity to publish comments on the segment page with notification to the owner.

I guess that the best is to open the segment like a wiki-page

  • Dear Strava, any progress on this topic?

It would be really helpful to contact segment creator for segments adjustments (name, start/finish, ...).

  • Why not just let us override the original names with alternative names we give them? I for one am so sick of seeing misspellings. And it would be cool if everybody could pick their preferred name from all the alternative names people have proposed for the same segment.

  • My idea is to add a button / link next to or below the segment name that can contain "Suggest name", to propose suitable names, without spelling errors and that can follow a nomenclature pattern.

I notice that some segments have names that do not match the excerpt or that were named incorrectly. People don't mind doing things right. Sad. :(

Another idea: how about citing the name of the creator of the segment next to or below the name of the segment (title)?

I am a regular Strava user (Summit subscriber) and would like to be able to contribute ideas for new features.

A few days ago, I suggested creating groups for routes, so that it was possible to organize by route type / distance. I was sad that my request was not granted. :(

    Thanks!

  • I am also frustrated with the many segments having inappropriate names, or start-end points. The only options we have are to flag or to hide the segment, but often neither of these options are suitable. Unfortunately, Strava doesn't like it when you try to create a better version which overlaps too much (ie. similar). Many people have suggested that the creator should be revealed, but I strongly disagree as this would definitely encourage abuse.

    My two possible solutions:

    1) Include like/dislike flags against segments and then automatically make the segment private if the dislikes exceed the likes by 2-to-1 after a grace period of say 1 week.

    2) For dislikes, include a standard set of check boxes with one or more selectable reasons such as: "start point is poorly located",  "end point is poorly located", "crosses major intersections, or traffic lights, or obstacles", "name is personal, misleading, or incorrect", "too short", "too long". Then notify the segment creator.

    Please 🙂
