The "Add a friend's activity as my activty" feature

Sometimes, things will go wrong when attempting to record an activity with Strava. Batteries die. User error, etc. It doesn't always work out perfectly. For cases like this, Strava needs a frictionless feature where you can essentially "copy" the exact activity of someone else and have it added as your activity (as though Strava recorded it for you). The current workaround is to delete the bad record (if one was created), and then manually copy all the details (time, distance, etc) of someone else who went on the ride or run with you. Why not offer that capability with the press of one button? So far, I could have used this feature at least 3 or 4 times in the last couple of weeks.  Thanks.

  • You can always download the gpx data from their ride (activity page) and upload it as yours. Not sure that I'd like someone using my ride for segment times and KoM's though...

  • Thanks Tim... thanks to Elle, I'm now aware of that.. however, that's quite a bit of friction.  And I agree, not everything is relevant.  For example, I might not get your KOM, or even your segment times.  Just over all data (map, distance, time, ... enough information to connect you to a group ride that others did, etc.).   I suggested to Elle that this "GPX method" be short-cutted with a "Copy Activity" button on the U/X.... pretty simple.

  • You can very easily import a friends data file as your own. But it's important to flag/categorize that event as "Private" so it won't be included on any Segment Leaderboards, since it wasn't technically you who did those efforts.
