Show heart rate data on swim activities

Currently the swim data from the HRM-Swim doesn't display. It would be good to get it on there for suffer score etc.

  • Pretty annoyed with this too, definitely won’t be renewing with strava when my renewal comes around.. absolute shambles to have this sitting there for 2+ years and nothing to show for it..

  • Seems like the quantifing effort should now also include swimming. Haven't tried it yet but lets hope.

  • I agree, please Strava and Garmin. Hear our requests and see if you can incorporate the swim heart rate data.

  • I'm not trying to rub salt into this wound, but I think this is primarily a Garmin problem.  Although it's tough to verify, it appears that the Apple Watch series 3 with optical sensor can also upload swim heart rate to Strava. Garmin uses a different method from both Polar and Apple for tracking heart rate underwater.  Garmin's post swim HRM file merging technique appears to be the issue.  Maybe Strava wants to preserve data integrity?  Just a guess.

  • So now we have Relative Effort and are advised on the info page that HRM's can be used for swimming - I use my Garmin Swim & 920XT every swim and still have no sign of it in Strava...

DISAPPOINTING BEYOND BELIEF...  Sort it out Strava, it's gone on long enough now...

  • fenix3 - I just got my Garmin HRM-swim/HRM-tri and am disappointed that the information does not sync with Strava.  Much sad face.

  • I use the Garmin Forerunner 735XT, which is 'compatible' with Strava, but indeed no heart rate data is transferred to Strava. As far as I'm concerned that is no real compatibility. It would be nice if this could be fixed.

  • Normally this level of being ignored is reserved for non-triathlon activities. The fact that they still can't sort this out is depressing.

I really like this service, and the social aspect of it is the main reason I stay. Having said that, Strava is WAY behind their competition now in terms of being useful for actually training for triathlons. And the bummer is that they don't seem to care.

  • I posted on here near the beginning of the year and have kept an eye on it in the hope it would get fixed. I spoke to Strava support by email and they said they’re looking into it but they’re a small team with a lot to do. It seems to me that they’ve made lots of progress in other areas like posts and adverts (which I think detract from the app). I’ve completely switched to Training Peaks for my training because that takes swimming into account and won’t renew my Premium membership and will use the free version of Strava for the social side.

  • Hi, A lot of your customers are triathletes.  Swimming is a key part of triathlon!  The new fitness modelling is great BUT for a triathlete it needs swimming to be added.  I can add gym work or skiing or walking but not swimming.  Weird planning STRAVA.

  • Has anyone discovered a workaround for inputting HR data from swims? I don't mind doing some legwork if I could get my swims to import.  I typically use my Apple Watch with either the native app or MySwimPro.

  • I have always done cycling with no problems, until I started swimming and purchased a Garmin Forerunner and a HRM-Swim bundle, as I finished the swim & would of thought that the HRM data would of uploaded too as the data gets transferred from the HRM to the watch syncing, then upload to Starva, But no and I found this thread, OMG Strava get your FRICKING act together guys as this should be a simple fix, maybe liaise with Garmin? What are the alternatives as I just speng 399 for the watch and 90 for the HRM Swim?

  • I’m unsure why strava can’t sync all the data from .fit files like it does for other activities. In particular my HR data. The swim activity even has a link to purchasing HRMs but won’t display the data when you already have one.
Can someone from strava let me know if they’re doing anything to enable HR data for swims. Is there a setting I’ve missed maybe?

    Cheers

  • Unglaublich, dass das Thema immer noch nicht gelöst ist!

Ich mag Strava ja eigentlich weil herstellerübergreifend und über die Social-Network Aspekte auch motivierend, aber das kann echt nicht sein...

  • Strava doesn't care about Triathletes. They want us on Instagram and Facebook, but when it comes to the actual data they couldn't be bothered. It's a bummer but this site is 90% social network now and only 10% fitness tracker.

  • Another here who bought a garmin HR Swim because of the suggestion from Strava to get one to see data, and for it to work with fitness and freshness. I won't be continuing my premium subscription after this BS.

  • At this point the only way to Get Strava to Address this is for someone to draft a letter with the names of all of us who Have agreed to Simultaneously cancel our Strava Premium Subscription on X date if this is not resolved by determined X date.

Who ever wants to draft the letter include my name Gregory J Santollo Email gsantollo@Gmail.com

I would do it but I am simply not articulate enough.

I will say I think we should give them 4 weeks to solve the issue, as I understand it does involve a bit of a build out.

  • Jeff - it was actually originally developed for cyclists. Note that Triathlete is not an option as a default sport, nor is swimming. Just running and cycling. I think the answer is that if you aren't happy with Strava, to end your Summit subscription (as I have done).

In my testing with a Fenix 5 Plus and HRM-Swim, I have found that the auto-synced workouts now display my average heart rate in the Strava app on Android, if I export the TCX file from Garmin Connect, and upload it to Strava, then I get all of my heart rate data in the app on Android (but then Strava screws up the distance tally), and in no cases is that data viewable on web. The lack of feature parity between web and mobile are nuts. There are things that are in mobile and not web, and things in web that aren't in mobile. Product management at Strava is just all over the place.

  • Well my renewal just came up.  Cancelled and made it clear in the requested feedback as to why.  Funny thing is, I’ve now come to release that all the other paid for features in Strava are a bit useless to be honest, and I can get all I want from the free version (or from Garmin Connect).

Nice little example as to how you can disrupt a customer who was happily paying his subscription month after month, for the sake of relatively straightforward development.

I genuinely challenge each of you who have come and vented in this thread to just go ahead and cancel.  I don’t think you’ll miss what Summit offers.
