Show heart rate data on swim activities

Currently the swim data from the HRM-Swim doesn't display. It would be good to get it on there for suffer score etc.

  • I am quite frankly appalled that there is a thread open for more than two years and Strava have done nothing to either fix the problem, or simply tell people to go away and stop moaning, we are never going to fix it.

They have certainly gone down in my estimations and come renewal of premium, I don't think I will tbh.

  • Garmin HR data from forerunner 935 - can you please add this ... given you already process running and riding from this device I'm a bit bemused as to why this is not relatively simple.

big fan of strava but would like this added.

  • "Why is heart rate information missing from my swim? We do not yet show heart rate data on swim activities."

WHY? This cannot be so difficult given that most activities can show HRM data (if recorded)

  • With all due respect Jess I work for a software company and I know how easy it would be to extend your adapter to support FITSDK version 16.30 or later.  You've had >$70M in VC and have over 150 people.  I mean TrainingPeaks did it years ago and they've got <50 people and no VC so their dev team / budget will be much smaller than yours!

Like Mark above, I'll probably not renew my premium membership next time because I can't use Strava for any kind of decent fitness tracking.  The 'fitness & freshness' calculation change has made it useless and the above issue means that any swimming activities dont correctly contribute to it anyway.

Also, FWIW, with your change to 3 types of paid subscriptions it looks like the 'Summit' plan makes you triple pay for various 'Premium' features.  Where's the logic in that?  https://www.strava.com/summit/join

  • I would expect this as standard - shocking that I pay for premium and it is excluded from the analytics. Makes a mockery of the freshness/fitness  functionality which is now useless for me when I mix activities - kind of the whole point of having a Garmin & HR for swimming / biking etc. I will likely not move to summit and will look at other platforms.

  • Another Strava Premium user here that will not be renewing subscription because of this. I have also advised everyone in my swimming group (triathletes) against Strava Premium (Summit) due to the lack of support for swimming activities. Shame!

  • I am joining the number of people that are going to cancel their premium. Ut is now widely cover subject, clearly not a hard fix and simply a functionality that is now a standard. Fix it.

it would be great also that you look at the number of people frustrated but that do not say anything...

it is 10/16/2018 - and you are still gathering upvotes to make it work? srsly starva?

Strava does accept heart rate data from most Garmin swim uploads, but the data is only displayed in the graph on the mobile app, not yet on the website.

no its not - no hr data on mobile app nor website, but all data in garmin connect

You make your product useless for progress analysis in swim or triathlon.

Maybe it is time to go for trainingpeaks

  • I'm going to jump in here and my voice to the many people complaining about this not being implemented yet.

I cannot believe that the swimming metrics in Strava are so lacking.

I've purchased a Garmin 735XT watch and Garmin HR Swim heart strap specifically to be able record swim data properly and accurately, including HR, which is very important.

I use a Garmin Edge 520 for my cycling and Strava imports all my cycling data perfectly.

I fully expected Strava to import ALL of the swimming metrics that my 735XT collects too, without issue.

I just assumed it would, it didn't even occur to me that it wouldn't ... because that would just be a ridiculous notion in 2019 ... right?

And yet, here we are, in 2019, and Strava STILL doesn't import swim data properly and doesn't even attempt to import HR data for indoor swims.

I've been a faithful Strava customer for several years and I still like the platform, but I too am losing patience with them because of these missing features.

Strava is not only a social media platform, it has also become the ubiquitous common platform that imports training data from may other platforms, and that is a big part of what makes it attractive to premium level users.

In my case, my road cycling and swimming data is imported from Garmin Connect BUT my indoor Wattbike training sessions are NOT imported from there, they are imported from Wattbike Hub.

Which means that Strava is the only platform that currently has all of my training data. Garmin Connect does not, it's missing the Wattbike sessions.

The problem is, for me to use Strava to do a holistic analysis of my training, I need ALL of the metrics for ALL of the different kinds of training to be imported.

It doesn't work as a unifying platform if certain activities are missing key information like HR data.

And what I really cannot fathom (pun intended) is that swimming is one of the 3 key types of activities (swimming, running, cycling) you typically see, it's not like it's some obscure sport that hardly anybody participates in, so it really should be getting more attention on Strava than it does currently.

  • This thread is under "New Feature Ideas" and it's NOT A NEW FEATURE. It's basic heart rate data. Does the right team know about this?

  • I'm thinking that Strava can't support this because of some sort of technical issue. Or they don't have resources to put toward the problem.

  • Yeahhh... nearly 2 yrs & not even a reply from Strava. Wow! And this is their support system channel. Just amazing guys! Thats the way to communicate to your customers.

  • I'm using Garmin swim HRM and no heart rate is shown on Strava! 👎🏻 I probably will cancel my premium membership until Strava fixes this issue!

  • According to DC Rainmaker the reason behind this is that on Garmin's side, the HR data is captured in a separate file. This is a result of the HR Swim and HR Tri not transmitting the data to the watch real time, but rather saving the data in a separate file which is combined with the rest of the workout data through Garmin Connect. Strava could still implement a fix to read this file, but they seem more concerned about the social media aspects of the website and have instead spent a lot of their resources on getting a "smart" feed like facebook or instagram, which is a feature nobody wants.

  • One more strava premium customer who bought a Garmin swim HR and then realised that this won't show up in Strava. Loss in my mind to Strava'a part. They are now forcing me to use Garmin connect as the go to App.

  • Extremely dissapointed. Bought the HRM-Tri for one reason only, to be able to include my swim training in the fitness chart. Now I realize that the hr-data is not sent over to Strava. What a bummer! Please include Hr-data from Garmin as soon as possible.

  • Hoping that heart rate data can be uploaded into Strava. I have Garmin 920xt and the heart rate data doesn't get uploaded (haven't tried open swim mode). The strange part is that I made a random strength workout profile and heart rate data from that gets uploaded. The freshness and fitness function is also useless for folks who have swim as the swim heart rate data is not used in that function. Strava - this really can't be that hard to fix that people have been begging since 2015 and nothing has changed.

  • Almost 2 years of comments :(

Both Training Peaks and Garmin Connect offer good swimming analysis, currently IMHO the latter is better but I use both and have discontinued my Premium Strava. It's a fun social toy, but training tool, no.

  • Please add this functionality.

If it doesn't get added by the time my renewal comes around I'll cancel my premium subscription and spend the money on training peaks.

  • For goodness sakes, please sort this out.  Aren't you embarrassed by the lack of support for swim data?  I'm definitely reconsidering my premium subscription.  Please resolve this issue.

  • I just cancelled my premium subscription.

There is a little box where you can enter why you cancelled. I guess, if they get hit by enough little boxes with comments regarding HR data for swim workouts they might assign some resources to get things moving.

Works perfectly fine in TrainingPeaks btw.

  • The Swim heart Rate Zone Analyse does not show in Strava, neither does average tempo, tempo, calories, average HR, HR, Average swolf or training effect, BUT all this shows in Garmin Connect! Why Strava?
