No heart rate data from Garmin Fenix 5 Plus?

Hi,

I have just got myself a Garmin Fenix 5 Plus watch and am currently using it for cycling and running. I've done 3 rides so far and all upload fine to Garmin Connect. But when they are either synced automatically with Strava or uploaded manually (in .fit format) I'm not getting any heart rate data at all in strava. All it says is "Want to see your Relative Effort and heart rate by zone? Use a heart rate monitor."

As the heart rate data is available on Garmin Connect i presume the device is fine. But could anyone help me get my heart rate data into Strava?

Regards

Jack.

  • I figured it out. I had to allow Health data to be collected by Strava.

Settings > Data Permissions > Health Related Data > Allow

  • I have the same issue, but I cannot see the Data Permissions under Settings. Where can I change this? In addition to not being able to see my HR, I also cannot see manual Laps.

  • Heart data is a premium feature I think, so maybe that's why you don't have the Data Permissions tab?

I see you don't have premium, but i do, maybe that's why?

  • I'm having the same issue. The permission is only visible on the desktop version of the site, not the app. I have enabled it, but still my heart rate data is not showing. I'm guessing it's a premium vs free issue.

  • I FIGURED IT OUT! apparently you need to be over the age of 16 to upload hr, so scale down your birth year.

  • This is an old thread and I'm having the same issue.  I'm over 16 and have data sharing checked.  I get heart rate information on my cycling computer (Garmin 830), but my Garmin 235 runs is not showing it.  I have used the 235 for cycling and it shows heart just find.  I validated that the data is in Garmin Connect, so that should be good also.

Any help would be welcome.  Thanks.

  • I have the same issue. Its a recent problem but it is now not displaying heart rate on runs from the Summer... and it was definitely displaying heart rate data in July and September 2019.

Heart rate data recorded on running activities is missing... but not just missing, runs that were displaying heart rate data earlier in the summer are now not showing data that was uploaded and displayed a little while ago.

I've checked that the "hide heart rate data" box is unticked on the runs. Ive tried to upload duplicate .gpx files downloaded from Garmin but Strava wont allow the duplicate upload. The heart rate data is there on Garmin.
Permissions are set coreectly for data sharing and privacy.

Heart rate data for gym workouts and yoga is still displaying so its just running its suddenly gone AWOL for me. My heart rate on runs is recorded on a worn heart rate monitor, on workouts its just the Fenix watch recording heart rate... but that wouldnt explain why historic heart rate data that was being displayed just fine is now missing... its not how the data is being transfered to Strava (historical data isnt displaying data that was on Strava), its not my kit, its not settings malfunction...

Looks like some kind of update (in the last month or so) to the way Strava displays of run has screwed up and needs fixing. I assume the heartrate data is still present unless its been deleted at Strava.
Please give me my heart rate graph back Strava!!

P.S. Have just uploaded some new historical GPX files from Garmin (where a seperate programming issue meant the heart rate and pace data was not displayed after a pause on the GPS watch device - but the data is still there). The data Garmin wont display post-pause button use is still there, pace displaying for the full run but the heart rate data is not being dispayed by strava.
I am now sspecting this is a squeeze by Strava to try and force more free account users to become paying customers by hiding the heart rate track, something that was a free now part of a premium push?

PPS Currently using a Garmin Fenix 5 - the Garmin website display "pause button" data issue was with my old Garmin 405 forerunner (long retired) - and as the pace data shows up onruns I have transferred to Strava in GPX format its something specific to Garmin website that they will never bother fixing (it remains an issue displaying those old 405 runs)

  • Had the same problem with Garmin Forerunner 245 music. I think you need allow access to Health Related data in your Strava "Data Permissions" settings. I have now allowed it, but only works for future activities so will report back if my next activity includes heart rate.

  • Same issue here with Garmin 645.
Had 3 runs recorded with this watch and 2 rides. Runs don't display HR on the top. Rides do.
However, clearly HR data is there — I can scroll down on my recorded run to the graph and turn on the HR to show no problem.
