segment times way off and flyby is not tracking

I am seeing my segment times be considerably longer then the actual effort for my last several rides, see below example.  The distance and elevation seem fine though.

  • Example below for one segment which I did not stop
  • This effort - 7:17:49
  • Moving time - 16:59

The map mostly looks correct, however there a few short sections where the route will be wildly off the course.  When i run the flyby it does not track the course I rode, and it is displaying.  Instead it jumps around near where I started.

I have already uninstalled and re-installed the app between rides.  Any ideas?

  • I'm having similar issues. My moving time and overall speed is correct, but Strava says every single km and segment was slower than my overall time!

  • Hi Michael,

I have the exact same problem, also uninstalled and re-installed but no solution yet, it started approx 12/14-2019

  • On my ride today I disabled mobile data and all of my times looked to be on track from what I expected.

I am going to try this for the next couple of rides and will report back my results.

  • Exact same issue started for me on Sunday, 1/12/2020.  It was the same 25-mile hilly route I had done almost 100 times.  My overall time for the activity on Strava appeared to be correct and was consistent with the time on my handlebar bike computer.  The activity time on Sunday was right around the middle of all my times for that same route but almost all my segment times were DEAD LAST on the "my results" display on the Strava leaderboard.  And no, I did not stop during any of the segments so this cannot be an auto-pause issue.  Same Samsung J3 phone I have been using for years for all Strava rides and I did not change anything on the phone recently.

  • Guy, I solved the problem by activating the automatic time on the phone, I just did a ride and all clear

  • @Steffen:
Strava Support told me the same BUT time is set to automatic on my phone and nevertheless I am experiencing time stretching :-/

  • I am so glad I am not alone on this issue, as it's been doing my head in!  This has been happening for me since mid-Dec, 2019, with individual segment times recording as being longer than my actual whole ride.  I contacted Strava who advised me to set my time zone to automatic, which I did.  It seemed to temporarily solve my problem, but now I'm back where I was , with incredibly slow segment times (on rides that I know I'm not going that slow), along with a Flyby that shows me permanently behind people I'm in front of, and not even passing people I've passed.  The flyby will then disappear, even though I'm several kms from home (it seems to disappear when my time finishes, which goes to show how far off it is in tracking me).  I have just reset all my GPS and location settings, so will see how I get on on tomorrow's ride.  I am using a Samsung S10E.

  • My phone has time set on automatic but I have the same issues with distorted time, very high segment times, additional ride time of 25 - 30%. Flybys show me riding much slower than others I have ridden next to on 2 hour rides.

  • Unfortunately, still no go, even with my adjusted location settings.  I ended up activing my old Samsung phone and took that along for the ride with my newer phone.  While they both showed identical stats as far as distance, time, average, the same segments for each were quite different, as was my flyby, which showed my old phone way in front of my new phone.  Needless to say, I deleted the ride on my new phone.  So it would appear that it is something in the updated Strava app that is doing this, as my old phone is still using the 2019 version from about June.

  • My strava App has been working perfect now after I set to automatic time on my phone.
