Strava as iPad App

Hi

I have both an iPhone and iPad.

I would love an app designed for the iPad so I can use the iPad to record and view activities just like on the iPhone. I know I can use the iPhone app on the iPad but it does not look good and does not make good use of the iPad larger screen.

A suggestion for recording mode could be the map and current position shown on the screen and a window similar to the iPhone app superimposed on top.

Regards

Patrick

  • @Kris - some good questions. I like where you're headed with this feedback. However, there are a few obstacles:

The Strava app on iPhone, iPad, or Android doesn't fully support use indoors, without a GPS signal. You can check on the feedback posted here for more info: https://strava.zendesk.com/entries/34663170

To answer your question about ANT+ for your iPad, you can read about our supported external sensors here; https://strava.zendesk.com/entries/21165523. However, without indoor or stationary support with the app, it might not be a great recording experience to connect your sensors to the iPad. Especially as most iPads don't have GPS hardware.

And, that is correct, we don't have ANT+ support for the Android app, only Bluetooth: https://strava.zendesk.com/entries/38037244

  • Please make a Strava app for the iPad. Using the iPhone version on the iPad looks strange.

  • An iPad specific app in many cases doesn't make sense.  Think of retailers trying to sell stuff.  They have a website, stores, maybe some in-store kiosk applications, etc.  I think they have found that their customers were not willing to download their app and would prefer to simply use their iPad browser to hit their site - hence responsive design makes sense.  There are iPad specific apps that do make perfect sense - Netflix, news, weather, etc - things where there is lots of data to be shown or functionality to be presented and it needs to be done in a 'slick' way.  This is absolutely true for Strava.  The iPhone app should be primarily intended to be used to capture activities, where an iPad (a.k.a. desktop / laptop replacement for a growing number of people) should be used to view / analyze data.  I would expect that a 1.0 iPad app would have 100% of the web site functionality, and then figure out what's next for 2.0.

  • +1 for an iPad app to use for analysing data only vs using the website. The app should have all the functionality of the website. No requirement for recording activities though. I have no desire to strap an iPad to my bike!

  • Yeah seriously. This looks like an oversight. You should be able to hop on a native iPad app at the end of a session for review and analysis. I can't imagine this would be a very intensive development process given that you have a solid iOS foundation already w the IPhone app.

  • I guess I will never ever use my iPad as a recording device on any of my runs or rides, but i most sertainly would like to be able to use my iPad to view and analyze my rides and runs.

A Strava iPad app with a functionality level in between the web version (which is not optimized for iPad and touch use) and the iPhone app (which realy doesn't look god in 2x, and has a limited functionallity compared to the web version) would be great.

  • Using the iPhone app on the iPad does not provide the same feel.  Looking for the ability to analyze my workouts once done.  Please create!
