Sync Heart Rate data to Apple Health app

It's great that the new version includes the Apple health app integration but it's missing heart rate syncing.  Please include this in future versions it should be fairly simple to incorporate!  Thanks!

  • I agree, I have to run both Wahoo & Strava during my rides in order to get my HR displayed. No sense in burning more battery  ;-)

  • I don't see any reason why this shouldn't be synced to HealthKit, and the bit about running Wahoo together is valid as well.

  • Agree especially when other apps do it on their premium features.

  • See also: https://strava.zendesk.com/entries/66564754-Import-Apple-Watch-s-heart-rate-measurements-into-Strava-activities which is closely related but not the same (it's the opposite direction).

  • Yes this would be good as the Apple Watch I have will be off and using my Garmin/HRM strap but it looks like there is a gap in the day!

  • Any update on this? It's a huge data gap because it seems the "exercise" rings on Apple Watch and in Apple Activity are based on heart rate. Without that data, your intense bike race or century nearly recorded in Strava counts for nothing in the Apple Watch fitness world.

  • Apple announced native WatchApps as part of WatchOS 2.0 at this years WWDC last week. That will give apps two important features:

    • Ability to run without a phone connected
    • Access to the sensors like HR and accelerometer.

With these two, Strava will be able to fix all of the issues people in this thread have - and I'm pretty sure they will.

  • Roger, that is sadly not at all relevant. My use case is going on a ride with a Garmin Edge and heart rate strap for maximum autonomy (a Garmin will significantly outlive a phone for gps tracking). Then my ride syncs from Garmin Connect to Strava (via their online sync integration), and finally from Strava to Apple Health. Except Strava doesn't export the heart rate data, just the high level workout.

  • Oh. you're right. Sorry - I thought I was replying to the other thread. Apologies.

  • I've found an app called Workouts that can export the HR from Health app to a TCX file. But the problem is that I cannot combine the TCX file with a downloaded GPX

  • I agree - would love to have my heart rate go to my Apple Health app. I'm riding on a Peloton bike and am using Strava to sync that data. Heart rate seems pretty important!

  • Adding my vote as well. I was amazed to see a complete lack of heart rate info when I looked at my Apple Health stats.

  • I posted this back in 2014.  Either the Strava support team doesn't look at these comments or they simply have no desire to implement this.  Complete bummer.

Not to mention, there's not even a response message from the support team to at least acknowledge that many people would like this feature.

  • +1 for this request. Heart rate and calories burnt would be great to see synced from Strava to Apple health. I use a Garmin Edge as well and sync that data with Strava.

  • I've also been waiting for this. Any updates?

  • +1

Please listen to your customers. Syncing HR data would be SO easy. I used to use CycleMeter and I'm so tempted to go back every time I spot something glaring like this which is missing. Considering CycleMeter will export to Strava, I'm on Strava for live segments ONLY atm. If the novelty of that wears off before they fix all these silly omissions, I'm off.

  • Any update on this? Shouldn´t be too difficult to implement...

  • Can I get an update on this? It's impossible to get heart rate data from a cycling workout into Apple Health. Why?

I use a Garmin, that syncs to Strava and Strava syncs to Apple Health. But I want the heart rate data imported otherwise I have huge gaps in my daily heart rate data.

Short of running a duplicate 'workout' on an apple watch (synced with a bluetooth heart rate strap) how else can I do it?

  • This seems like a low hanging fruit. Your app can already write to Apple Health, your API supports getting heart rate - it shouldn't be hard to put those two together. Can't be much more than half a sprint.

There's a third-party application, RunGap, which offers this functionality (sync Strava activities to Apple Health including heart rate). It has its drawbacks, though. Unless you forbid the Strava app to write to Apple Health directly, you'll end up with duplicate Workout entries.

  • I wouldn't expect any movement on this until WatchOS 4 is released (autumn/fall) this year, as it dramatically opens up Apple's HealthKit API to 3rd party apps. Assuming that this is true, it'd be nice if Strava took the time to communicate this to their customers.

  • Had the same issue, but found workaround: pairing Wahoo Tickr with iPhone directly in Bluetooth settings and enabling sensor as a source for Health App.

As a result, I record my activities with Strava, and the sensor sends HR to Strava and to Health App simultaneously.

Of course, it doesn't solve every case, so I looking forward to see synchronization of HR data between Strava and Apple Health in future updates too.

  • I want my strava heart rate data to sync with the iOS health app as well. Please.

  • Hilarious that it doesn't push heart rate to health. Used it for the first time and thought I did something wrong. Nope. Just an app with a giant hole. Bye strava.

  • Strava doesn't send HR data to Health app!?! So lame. I thought it did. What kind of tracking app is this? It says it reads Active Energy according to Health. Well what is that? It's your HR. That's the only way to calculate calories b/c it certainly doesn't track steps and I can walk 10,000 steps without being that active. Strava you suck!!!

  • Forget that being done anytime soon. The only thing Strava seems to be busy with is adding stupid social features to the feed. They used to be a company driven by enthusiasts but that's gone down the drain... Not using it anymore, will cancel my Premium subscription once it expires.

  • Yep! They all seem to be focused on this crap now. I like that Garmin has a better platform, but their social aspect isn't the same. I wish you could at least add images. Thankfully I don't have a membership. Nothing Strava offers that Garmin doesn't for free. Lame!

  • Try the Ride with GPS app. It has many of the good Strava features and will write Heart rate data and post photos. It is my go to app for route creation and navigation

  • Yes please add this! I switched from Runkeeper to Strava, and I am really missing this! Don't let me switch back!

  • Has anyone found a solution to getting heart data from Strava to Apple Health?  Such an old thread for such a simple integration and now that the new watchOS is out, why a further delay?

I use a Garmin strap to monitor my heart on rides and on my Peloton. If Strava cannot export heart data to the Apple Health kit, does anyone have a solution that does?

  • No. I stopped using Strava to write to health kit now use Garmin only, but still no HR. I know Runkeeper and RunGap will write to it. So it’s someone not wanting to comply or just won’t update the code. Garmin has its own issues, where if you change your Activity title more than one it will no longer show your avg pace on the activity screen. It will show it on the detail but not the heads up one. It’s very annoying and I’ve written them about it several times. They said their engineers are working on it. It’s been months. These lame developers kill me when they can’t fix one simple problem. They’re so focused on new features that no one cares about.
