Routes navigation on mobile

I read your routes on-lines stuff and that still left me scratching my head. My issue "To use your route, select 'Use Route'. Once you start recording, the Strava mobile app will keep you on course." It does not say how. While I am cycling my phone is in my bike pack and I cannot see it. I do have an Apple Watch and I was hoping that via the watch I could receive updates on my route with out having to stop get off my bike and dig out my phone. IT looks like it could be a great feature but seems only half done at present, unless I am missing something. Another option would be audible queues via a bluetooth ear piece.

Thanks, these are all great ideas.

At the moment, we don't provide audio cues for route navigation and have not integrated routes into the Apple Watch app. However, we agree there is a lot of potential here.

Please keep your feedback coming and we'll use it to inspire our internal discussions on this topic.

  • I agree as well. Would be great if the wrist taps available for Google Maps would also be available for my Strava routes. Any news on this? Thanks.

  • Agree with Pt Boomer. Today i started my first route and use of strava (in france on holiday in a strange environment). It is frustrating while driving on a racebike to think about the direction which is indicated (please give at least an option to select eather True north of driving direction ). Other guiding apps I used in both car driving AND biking AND hiking support this functionality.

  • Today is the first time that I attempted to ride a route I have created as i'm new to the area.  I too have an apple watch and nothing goes to it.  I had earbuds plugged in and one in my ear for hopes of audible directions.  I missed my turn and ended up riding 5 miles up the main highway.  Really stunk for sure and pulling my phone out while riding to see where I must go isn't an option for me as i'm always on twisty winding roads.  Strava we could use some help here.  Thanks

  • I agree a simple arrow and a vibration telling you to make a right or left turn would be awesome. Color coded also I agree.

  • Having the route show on phone while riding so would be ideal. Having the map show true north or keeping the map in one direction would be helpful. The map would show to turn right but actually needed to turn left. Very frustrating.

  • It could be as simple as a colored arrow apearing on you watch when you reatch an intersection   up for  straight and left or right with each being a different color.   Text would be hard to read.

  • Agree with Pt Boomer and Paul Mulders. It is very frustrating while driving on my bike and have to think about  the direction. It would be great that the map is displayed in the driving position and ideal is if the app displayed an arrow just before turning.

  • Route turn notification WOULD BE AWESOME!  Don't want to dig my phone out of my pack to see next turn...

Map on Apple Watch app would be second best solution.

  • I used the route feature on the iOS app while travelling recently.  It was helpful but I encountered a bit of a usability issue.  The route color is red and the segment color is also red.  More than once I pulled my phone out to check if I was still on the right route and missed my turn because these separate things use the same color indicator.

It isn't a terrible issue.  I just turned around and fixed it but it seems unessecarily hard to have segments in red too.

  • Is there a way to hold the map keep a north symbol on the map? The live mapping was very confusing. And having voice or sound indicating turn would be nice.
